Shipping; US to UK

Hey fellow dromers, just after some advice...

As usual I'm slow on the uptake & only just saw the Mattel Ghostbusters Wand (see here: http://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1298800/productID.292265300#.Vg2cvWK9KSN).

I got excited & immediately made plans to buy one in the coming months. However...that was on my iPhone & now I'm looking at it on a larger screen I notice they don't ship the wand to the EU including the UK because of electronic issues.

My question is this: if I get a work colleague based in the US to buy this for me, am I still gonna have shipping issues with sending 'private' stuff? I'm guessing to ship abroad he'll have to fill out paperwork & state it's electronics goods?

Basically am I going to be wasting my money as it'll be impossible to get it shipped? Or does anyone have any experience of doing this sort of thing successfully?

The reason is likely because the device doesn't quite meet the much stricter European safety standards on toys, especially electronics.

Mind you, this is a country that bans Kinder Surprise eggs :P

Honestly, I can't see a problem having someone in the US buy it for you and then ship it across, because even if the package was opened up and examined, no one is really going to tell.
