On the show "Two and a Half Men", the episode started out with Charlie Sheen's character and his nephew at the piano. Charlie Sheen tells the boy he'll play him a song, and he starts playing and singing the old TMNT cartoon theme song!
A bit later in the show, they're playing a game called "sockball" . Sheen tells the boy that he has the obvious disadvantage because: "you're short, and you don't know who the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtls are".
It was tiny, and quick, but I thought it was cool that they used them. :)

That's awesome!
Charlie Sheen was always cool... :D

They made a reference on WWE Confidential a few weeks back.
Tajiri was interviewed by Sho Funaki (WWE Smackdown... NUMBA 1 ANNOUNCA!) Funaki Asked these questions:
"Which is your favorite Pokemon?"
Tajiri replied (In japanese of course) "Pikachu, he's liltte yellow furry, and cute. and he can shoot lightning bolts"
"Who would win in a fight, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Pikachu"
Tajiri replied: "All Four against 1?? Well.. I guess Pikachu, he can shoot lightning out of his ass."
Funaki just laughed at his answer.

well.... the turtles would be water/fighting types if converted... and pikachu being electric, and having a huge advantage agaisn't water types, would sadly wipe the board with them. not saying its right, but thats how it would go.

Donatello could use his bo to ground the electricity, and then beath the sh** out of Pikachu...
Definitely.
Plus, the TMNT are way smarter than Pukemon :P , and more wiser.
Then only ones they would PROBABLY have trouble with are Mew and Mewtwo.

Lol, TMNT wud definitely beat Pikachus round lil yella ass!
I always find that when TMNT is mentioned on some other show that it's real cool. It was used in Saved By The Bell, someone called,er - wass that guys name?? skreech? yar, him, they called him a Teenage Mutant Ninja Dork, and then in other episode I think it was said that Skreech had Ninja Turtle posters. I'm like, always jumping to the remote to up the volume when I hear TMNT mentioned, heh.

don't know if this was mentioned anywhere but there was a TMNT reference (actually several) on the new CBS show 2 and a Half Men. at the start, charlie sheen was playing the piano singing "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". those were the only words he said, then he got cut off. it kinda sounded like the old theme song, but the words were long and stretched out. then he said something to the kid like "i can't believe you've never heard of the ninja turtles".
nontheless i was pleased to hear that :D

Found a movie randomly watching some old film reviews. When I saw the plot it reminded me of a certain TMNT episode. Since the series was never shy to do parodies of films I think it's a good bet that the episode was based off it.
The film was called Nightmares and it was a anthology of horror movie. The segment was called The Bishop of Battle. The story is about a kid becomes obsessed with a video game no one has ever beat. So after several attempts, and even being dragged out of the arcade, he sneaks out at night to play it. He breaks into the arcade, gets to the final level, and then the cabinet explodes bringing the game into reality. The similarities are pretty obvious.
Info about the film

Part 1 of the film
boo8sm36gDk
If you haven't guessed it yet the episode is Leonardo Versus Tempestra and as I mentioned above I wouldn't be surprised if they created the episode as a parody of it.
Has anyone seen this film themselves?
Revan
08-08-2011, 12:20 PM
That's excellent. Never knew that movie existed. Being that it came out about 7 years before Leo vs Tempestra aired I would say it's a fair bet the episode drew directly from it. I remember loving this episode as a kid. I loved video games and ninja turtles. A ninja turtle physically fighting a video was gold!
Interesting find

When I get some free time I'm gonna watch it. I'll post if there's any direct similarities, like quotes or scenes taken right from the movie. I think it's fun finding old stuff like this related to turtles. Like the time I found out Rob Paulsen was a background voice in Tron.

Probably a reference to Henson working on the first movie...
Or I'm putting too much thought into it.
I saw that on TV yesterday. This must mean the movie is set in the '90s. How else would a kid know who the TMNT are? ;)

Does anybody have a real life model of what April's handheld newscamera/camcorder looks like?
The cartoon version is too... bland and cartoony and I'm trying to find a real version I can use as a model to draw off of better so it looks a little more practical or real.

Just thought this was a neat detail. Was reading this article about some early design work from before the first Pokemon games came out: http://www.glitterberri.com/pokemon-red-blue/early-concept-art/
The relevant part is here: http://www.glitterberri.com/pokemon-red-blue/early-concept-art/5/
"The Japanese name for Blastoise is Kamekkusu, but this picture calls him Karabajio. This is romanized to Caravaggio, the name of a famous painter who lived in Italy during the Renaissance."
So yeah, unless there's another reason Game Freak would have been making a turtle character and thought an Italian Renaissance artist name would be appropriate, I think someone at the office might have been a TMNT fan.
If anything, this makes a certain Smash Bros mod make a little more sense:

I'm surprised at how similar Pokemon is to the original TMNT cartoon.
Both basically followed repetitive plots with the heroes confronted by a trio of villains (Shredder/Bebop/Rocksteady) or (Team Rocket), and who blast off at the end of the episode. (Shredder and co. run to modules or portals)
Also both never lived up to their full potential, because both were largely episodic shows rather than having serialized plots.

Another comparison to draw between them is that 4kids handled both series' and thusly the two shared voice actors. Ash Ketchum = April O'neil, Nano, etc. The voice actors of Brock/James, Misty/Jesse, and various Pokemon, all had roles as characters in TMNT, and just the same, all the turtles had a few one-off voice roles.

Because you were listed each VA that did two characters, like Misty/Jessie and James/Brock, whereas Veronica best known for Ash also did May for 3 seasons.
Had 4kids not lost the dubbing license during the Battle Frontier season, Veronica would have voiced May for nearly 200 episodes.

Episodic plots? WRONG, Pokemon is always known for having a serial-style storyline, which is why I enjoyed it way back. But I'm not surprised given that the TMNT reference was for Blastoise, given that its the turtle species of Pokemon. The use of Ninjas also isn't surprising, yet Ninjas were in pop culture well before TMNT even existed. Also, the Koopas were introduced in 1983's Mario Bros, predating the TMNT. If anything, Blastoise seems like a nicer Bowser and a Squirtle acts like a nicer Koopa Troopa.

Pokemon may have continuing elements throughout each saga, but its still largely episodic.
After Kanto, you could skip 70% of the episodes in each "generation" and not miss anything important but a new pokemon getting its first animated appearance.

None of those are really the show's fault.
1) The toys were absolutely terrible. Look at this ****. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71Q4RwpphWL._SL1500_.jpg)
2) You're supposed to go with the flow in terms of the timeskip. New characters? Get to know them. Besides, most of the "out of nowhere" characters in season two were in season one, albeit briefly. So they got their little introductions. You just had to pay attention.
3) I'm still amazed by that one. I'm by far no feminist, but I think Cartoon Network's Board of Directors is a bunch of dinosaur-aged white guys. Seriously, what the hell, CN?
Adding to all this, Cartoon Network has decided it doesn't like well-written, solid cartoons. It just wants lackluster junk like Teen Titans Go!. Want proof? Try watching Beware the Batman on Toonnami, at the reasonable hour of 3 AM. CN is trying to get rid of all its action cartoons and replacing it with... more bad comedy? I dunno.

1) yea I guess it's not the shows fault the toys were terrible..but it still hurt them.
2) it's kinda hard sometimes...a kid watching the show would of probably had a favorite character from the first season....then all of a sudden new characters take the spotlight for most of season 2.....I'm an adult and that turned me off...it turned off a lot of people I know. (that and the fact I didn't really like the new characters as much as the old ones)
3).....it's not fair....boys like MLP and you don't see them canceling that.

well MLP does a better job at merchandising for the boys too...
I mean they didn't HAVE to make a brony stuff.....
why couldn't Young Justice just make more girl-like things...
avatar had a toy-line...and they didn't have a single girl action figure! even though most of the girls in the show were kickbutt and awesome. heck the craziest villains they faced was an all girl team.
(unless someone found the action figures....in that case please tell me T^T)

It's a driving problem with WB/DC, actually. The same thing has come up in interviews around shows like Arrow. They don't want the female demographic because they somehow think that will limit the male demographic who buy more merchandise....or something. I don't know, it's nonsensical lunacy.
Good luck getting a Wonder Woman movie.....ever.....with their current attitude.

I mean the theatrical movies. You'd think they'd want Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman for their main three pillars before building up a Justice League film, but it's clear that won't happen. Batman/Superman will appear together, Wonder Woman might cameo, then we'll head for Justice League.
Even after Justice League, I'm not confident of a Wonder Woman film.

Hardly. I love the original Teen Titans, and I love Teen Titans Go! They just took the characters from the original and put them into new short stories, kinda like Powerpuff Girls formula - two stories per episode.
And they're funny and highly entertaining. The art and color scheme are fresh compared to the old one (obviously).

Then its financial underperforming led WB to put the kibosh on DC animated movies starring female heroines. And considering that's just for the animated movies, one thinks they're probably dead paranoid about live-action films (though that terrible Catwoman movie didn't do any favor at all).

Really? I actually thought arrow was a nice balance, with something for everyone.
On top of bringing some major characters to live action tv, they have really great fighting scenes, a decent amount of love/romance, occasional comedic moments, and good development of plot and characters.
And, if this even matters, as far as male to female characters, they're pretty even. Of course arrow is the focus, but the girls on the show all have major parts, and get their own development and everything.

What?
That's the way it seems like if you saw, like, the first two episodes. The point is that you have no idea what "The Light" is at that point, and you should continue watching the show until you understand why losing some battles could be in their favor. The overarching story is very tightly wound, and there's a reason they show you those "Light" scenes at the end of the season one episodes.

I'm partially in agreement with CyberCubed. While undeniably funny at times, Teen Titans Go! Doesn't work for alot of people because the original teen titans was funny, had actual stakes, and was heartfelt at times. Think about it, did Teen Titans Go! REALLY need to be about the teen titans? It has almost nothing to do with the original show and could have been about any team of made up heroes. If Cartoon Network wanted to make a comedy show, that's fine. Just don't take a show that was one thing and turn it into something else entirely.

I wish we would have gotten a sequel too, but it's kinda impossible....
the sequel would be years apart from the last season....who would even remember what happened? New kids watching the show wouldn't, only the people that watched the original show know.
they'd have to have a marathon of all the seasons before they'd make a sequel and even then.....the sequel wouldn't REALLY be the same because the people who worked on the original show wouldn't be there.
That's if they wanted to have continuity.....and I would want it because of all the growth the titans went through, it was important. Raven's arc....Slade....Terra.....those are all things that have changed the Titans and if those are gone that would suck...
OR they could just totally reboot the whole show.....but then we wouldn't have the teen titans we remember and loved.
at least with Teen Titans go! We have the characters we remember even if it is in a crazy comedy world. ^_^ that's the fun thing about spin-off shows, no it's not the same as the original show, but if I can still see my favorite characters interacting even in bizarre ways I'm happy.

I find that hard to believe. I mean really, a sequel doesn't seem entirely impossible. They could just show some flash backs to the old series if they wanted to and make occasional references once in awhile, regarding some of the important details.
Don't get me wrong, Titans Go!, on its own, is an okay comedy show. But compared to the original series, I just don't like it as much. I'd rather have an actual sequel than to see one of my favorite shows that had so much drama and action turned into just a comedy.
Plus I hate what they did to Terra in Go! and just made her like her comic book counterpart.

Ok, I'll admit that the show can be funny at times, but what if they made a Game of thrones ( a grim and gritty drama ) spin off and made it into a sitcom, removing any and all seriousness of the original ? You can understand why some people might not be happy with that.

Then I might actually watch Game of Thrones. And if the original show is still there, then no, it's not understandable at all. No reason for them to be sour if their preference still exists. Bad example.
And Teen Titans Go is awesome.
Teen Titans was a comedy/action show, in that order. Now it actually had great drama and storylines but it was a comedy show. That's the reason people hated it being a part of DCAU and would argue that it wasn't. This is a comedy only spin-off and it actually fits with the mood of the show. More than it would for BTAS or any other DC show. The show is not the original Teen Titans and it stands on itself as a good show. There's tons of references to the original show and the DC Universe in general which is great.
Sure we would've all loved another season of the original show or of Young Justice but that's not the fault of this show and at least this show is fun, it could've been replaced with something else.
Young Justice vs JLU? I'd say that Young Justice had a more interesting plot however the characters in JLU were fleshed out so much more/better in just a few episodes than YJ could its entire run.

That is not true, the DCAU lasted how many years in continuity? Especially now with the ease of availability it's not even a problem. You just have to write the show in a way that can be seen from that point on. Not too difficult, hell in many shows you have many things that happen off-screen before the show began but you accept it without a problem. You can easily have Slade be their dreaded enemy and don't have to know the history of the characters.

Enlighten me. How could Teen Titans have fit in the DCAU?
long story short, it was originally meant to be DCAU (hence references to the titans) but then they decided to just do things their own way. Eventually they decided to make a crossover, one done in the JLU style and one in TT style, but for some reason the plan didn't do it and instead put easter eggs in each show (Speedy in JLU being a "grown up" version of TT Speed, Kid Flash in the Flash Museum, Michael R. voicing Kid Flash in TT, etc). Confirmed by people who worked on Teen Titans.
Of course the fandom never accepted it, I used to be one who really wanted it to be in continuity back in the day and got a lot of crap for it, years after when it was confirmed I didn't care anymore, I actually like TT being in continuity with The Batman show more but oh well. Oddly enough in an interview for the first season of Legions of Superheroes, when asked the producers are also vague on whether it was in continuity or not. Maybe they were waiting to see the fan reaction or how the show evolved.

When it was originally airing people liked to view it as a prequel to B:TAS as Robin was younger in Teen Titans than he is in B:TAS. There were also many nods between the creators like Kid Flash and so forth.
They played around with the idea back then, although nowadays most would agree its not part of the DCAU.

That video couldn't be any more wrong, since when was Teen Titans a show that was primarily dramatic? I got back into cartoons and re-found my inner child thanks to Teen Titans because it did not take itself seriously. I loved the serious dramatic episodes that TT had but most episodes in the season were not like that, most were fairly generic plots made fun because of the crazy hi-jinx. Then you had super wacky episodes which you had as many in a season as the dramatic ones.
Teen Titans Go takes one aspect of the show, comedy. Sure it doesn't have the action/drama the original had but this is not the original show. But to say TTG is unlike the original show is far from true, you can easily take any of the TTG shorts and put it in an episode of the actual show. All TTG is missing is the action/dramatic parts. The new show nails the comedy parts and that's what it aims. I loved the original show and this is a good way to see the characters that I loved again.

And it's funny. At no point during The Talking Dead did anyone ever admit he was a TMNT reference. They usually have all sorts of behind-the-scenes tidbits. Chris Hardwick pointed it out though.

I don't watch that show because it doesn't interest me, but I think that's cool that they paid homage to TMNT in it.

Yeah, every one on the couch just kind of laughed and nodded like they didn't know what he was talking about lol. I'm sure it was all intentional though.

Found this pic on instagram, there's a character on the show name Eastman, Who was training the Morgan character with a Bo staff, He's also wearing a t-shirt with a Turtle on it that says 'Save Terrapins'. So the show has a TMNT reference. :)

Perhaps
Michonne is Leonardo
and Daryl is Raphael
who would be Michelangelo?
MsMarvelDuckie
11-03-2015, 12:14 PM
Why would Daryl be Raphael? He uses a crossbow!
Carl might be Michelangelo, just without the chucks- he's the youngest character on the show, after all....
I spotted the name reference and figured it was deliberate when you caught glimpses of the turtle pics (not TMNT) on his wall, and of course the tee shirt.
I'd guess that the character came first, then a writer came up with the name because of the turtles connection.

I was considering who would be most like him with persona or attitude more than weapons. Similar to why Carl would be Michelangelo based on age alone.

Morgan as Donatello...since it's so embedded now. (Back-up would be Glenn).
Abraham as Raphael.
Michonne as Leonardo.
Clementine as Michelangelo. <3
Carl as Mikey is awful. Mikey wouldn't murder toddlers.

Ben Bishop (He does excellent work and is a huuuge TMNT fan). I actually had him commissioned for a GB/TMNT sketch cover, but he came up with this before he started mine and I bought the hell out of it.

Also, Clementine is the best character out of The Walking Dead franchise. Frankly, she's one of the best characters ever from anything. If you enjoy the comics/show and haven't played the Telltale game you are doing yourself a disservice.

I wasn't aware Carl had ever murdered any toddlers. I'm up to season five, and he hasn't done that yet. Where was this? Haven't encountered Clementine yet, either, but of the ones I've seen so far, he's the most "innocent".

I honestly can't remember if it happens in the show. I know they took basically the same situation and modified it for the show much later on (I think season 4?)
What happens between those two teenage girls with Carol and Tyrese actually happens with two little boys in the comic. One boy kills the other and the group locks him in a trailer while they figure out what to do with him. Carl decides to break into the trailer and shoot the kid in the face.
Clementine is from the video game. And I have to use the term 'video game' loosely because it's really more of an interactive short film. It's another way to enjoy the story of TWD, but you get the opportunity to choose how the characters respond, interact with others, and kinda who lives and dies. It's worth experiencing even if you just watch a playthrough on youtube or a stream.
Clementine is the main character of both and she's utterly perfect. She's just a precious little cinnamon bun that makes me feel real pain. You'd never think such an adorable little 8-year old could endure what she goes through. Seriously, the show is damn TAME compared to the game (and comics). But she gets through it and she's still a sweet little happy-go-lucky kid.

So it was just in the comic? I've only seen the show- I'm up to the exchange at the hospital now. Still, if the kid had killed another child, I'd say Carl did what he felt was necessary. Just like with Carol and Tyrese and the two girls.

I thought it happened in the show too, but I guess I'm mistaken. *shrug*
That's all well and fine, but not who I'd peg as a Mikey. That was my point.

I was trying to think of someone else, but no one came to mind. Beth, maybe? She was the most "innocent" and sweet, optimistic, etc, besides him. But she just died in the episode I was watching tonight. Dawn shot her when Beth tried to stab her with the scissors during the exchange.

Hershel as Splinter perhaps?
And in real life, Lennie James is trained in aikido by martial artist Stephen Ho, who doubled for Donatello in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in the 1990s

While watching Family Guy last night, they had a TMNT reference. Lois and Peter are driving in the car, and when Peter says he wants to go to a restaurant to get a toothpick, Lois says, "We promised Chris we'd be there when he wakes up from surgery."
Then it cuts away to Chris waking up in the hospital and the doctor says, "We repaired your hernia, but you need to stop lifting manhole covers."
Chris replies, "But the Ninja Turtles are my friends."
Then a sewer worker comes in and says, "Stop lifting up those manhole covers. We gotta work down there."
Chris replies, "Thanks, Donatello."

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen Ted 2 yet and doesn't want to be spoiled...
Just finished watching Ted 2 and they go to NY's comic con and I just said to my hubby that there wasn't a turtle in sight when who should appear? Raphael! The bad guy dons a Raphael costume and tells Ted that he "Was a big fan of his in the 90's" a total shout out to the original movie. The costume looked like it was one used in the original movie, but I didn't think any of those were around anymore. The other Turtles made an appearance as well, but they looked so baggy and droopy that I wasn't sure if they were fan made costumes or originals. Does anyone have any info on this?

Yeah, far as I understand it, the materials for the film's costumes did not age well (or hold up perfectly during filming for that matter), so no way those are from any film. Look a bit more rubbery than those from the movie anyhow.

Workaholics referenced the Jose Canseco line from the first movie last night.
Also caught The Loud House while babysitting a couple weeks ago. It's about a boy with 10 sisters. In the episode "One of the Boys", he ends up in an alternate dimension where he has 10 Brothers instead. 4 of them are voiced by the Nickelodeon TMNT guys.
