Just a hypothetical question here; if the mirage character radical were brought into another tmnt continuity, what would be the ideal animal to mutate her into, given her powers, background, powers and personality?('don't mutate her' is not an answer)

Don't mutate her.

Bring back Radical? Worst idea.

Mutate Radical? Worst idea.

Worst idea squared.

So basically what you're asking is, "What is the least culturally insensitive animal to turn a Native American woman into?"

Because let's face it, that's what'd happen.

I meant her origin story for her powers when i said her background, not her ethnic background. Sorry should've been clearer.

Why should she be mutated though?

Why should she be mutated though?

After what happened to karai in the nick toon, I was thinking about what certain human characters across the tmnt multiverse would be mutated into if they did the same thing. I have a morbid curiosity.

This is the IDW TMNT, not Nick. Except for Bebop and Rocksteady, there are no human mutants.

Plus, there are no toys, so nobody has to worry about "We want to introduce a new female character but we need sexist little boys to buy the toys! Oh noes! I knows, turn her into a duck/beaver/raccoon/squirrel/pangolins!"

All my dislike for Radical aside, this question is quite obtruse.

I mean, at this point, why aren't we discussing "When will April mutate into a cat?" Or "What animal should Casey mutate into?"

IF IDW decides to revisit "human mutants", it can only be done through Null at this point. Plus, there are more prominent and interesting characters who already exist as former human mutants. Dogpound/Rahzar, Fishface, Muckman, Tiger Claw (I think)...

Clearly a sexist motive. If there were to be another female in the series they want it to be mutated as to not let people know or recognize there are more prominant or featured females in the franchise.

I never said idw, this thread is on the general board. I am indifferent about radical one way or another. I think mutating her would silly, I just wondered how dumb the animal choices would get.

Radical is already a mutant. She's referred to as a "Supermutant" in the Mirage comics.

There's a Mirage pin-up page drawn by Eastman with Radical/Carnage fighting and the tagline is, "Battle of the Supermutants!"

Took the first thought right out of my head.

I'm not all that familiar with her, but with her abilities (powers?) wasn't she more in line with being something of a human superhero type? Think she aught to stay in that category, or play up more of a superhero thing, rather than mutating her. She can hang out with Silver Sentry or whoever.

Edit: Wasn't she a shape shifter or something? (As if that idea wasn't culturally tied.) If Nick brought her in, I could kind of see her having a few different forms, instead of mutations, for various reasons. For example, maybe a fox (in homage to other TMNT characters) for swiftness. Though I'd prefer they brought her in as an adult character... adult women (human, mutant, or otherwise) are still sorely lacking, save for rare appearances (which she'd probably be) and barely there side characters.

Donatello: Snake turned into a weed!

Michelangelo: Funny. You’d think he’d turn into a snake.

Raphael: Why would you think that?

Michelangelo: His name is snake…

Raphael: SO?

Michelangelo: You don’t understand science.

Actually, I think her powers were more electricity-based, and she had speed and strength. And she flies. Powers of the natural world- wind, lightening and thunder.

Ah, in that case playing on the superhero angle would definitely make more sense than mutation imo.

MsMarvelDuckie

Yeah, in her first appearance she was treated as a superhero of sorts, while in a later one she became more shamanic in nature- apparently she was "chosen" by a Native American spirit/god to oppose Complete Carnage, who had been "chosen" by an evil/dark spirit to fight as their respective "champions" in the human world. I just finished reading that one, where she calls on the Thunderbird of her people to ask for help in defeating him. The turtles help her fight him, while Donatello uses a shamanic spell to contain or capture him. And she talks about the dream world. Her first appearance was much more like a standard superhero fight.

Either way, she doesn't strike me as the type of character that would work well as a typical mutant. She already has enough powers, and her heritage works best with something more mystical or super-heroic. No need to mutate her on top of it.

I could see Hun getting mutated, like in Turtles Forever, but honestly, that just came off as kind of cheesy, and it would be even more so in Nick or IDW. Woody might work in that world.

Been a while since I read the issues, but turtlepedia lists her power as "the power of liquid energy". She was basically nature powered, and Complete Carnage was her opposite.

MsMarvelDuckie

Liquid energy? Seems a little strange given that she directly states in the issue I mentioned that her powers was that of "lightening, thunder, and the wind". So, basically like Storm, but more personalized. The only "liquid energy" power I can thing of was her particle beam power, which she only used once (AFAIK), as it supposedly would kill her (but didn't).

I mentioned to PKF elsewhere I think due to a beaver being in origin and still being a water related animal a beaver would work. That is only it was an absolute must that she mutated.

Slightly off topic, has David Wise ever stated what abomination Carter mutated into ans why it only was activated when stressed? Yes, that is what triggers the Turtles secondary forms, but this Carter's only mutant form.

Hmm, I don't recall ever hearing David Wise talk about it. He seems to despise the whole idea of the Red Sky era as anti-thetical to what the TMNT is all about, and Idon't think he really thought Jeffery Scott was competent enough to handle the head writing duties. Think I saw that in an interview on the old NinjaTurtlesNetwork website.

As far as Carter's abomination of a mutation, however, this is the best explanation I've ever seen:

I have seen that image. It was created by the administrator at toplessrobot.com Motorbike handlebar contact no animals aside from the TMNT themselves. Since I was the young age of 8 I have wondered what the heck the yellow hulk with spiked shoulders was supposed to be. I remember playing the original arcade game at Pizza Hut during the time of the red sky episodes. Which character or just to fit the character mold of the original set of combatants? I also didn't get why he did not permanently mutate and then have secondary form like the four turtles did. I guess we can right it off as the whole secondary mutation did not work. Splinter not mutating into secondary form only furthers the strangeness of it. No toys sold because of it only a cheap plot device for a few episodes. Sorry for derailing the thread. I just thought David Wise might have commented on it since it was his script even if the CBs suits had him at gunpoint for what to include and what not to.

Woah! Toplessrobot. I used to read Toplessrobot before they changed their layout and started posting the same four articles over and over. I believe they changed their name to The Robot's Voice. Lame.
