Does anyone else on the board feel like it would be really cool to have a Con strictly for TMNT?
I know a couple years ago another action figure board i used to post at was trying to put together a Con strictly for there toyline. Whether something happened or not i do not know. The TMNT creation has been around for so long i think it would be great if WE as a Fan Forum could put something together. What does everyone think?

I think that would be a good idea. It would certainly give people a chance to show off their collections (or stare at other people's). Problem is, you need several people with good organizational skills and some sort of connections who can house this sort of event. Although I'm sure if this ever came to pass, TMNT celeberties such as voice actors and certain creators of the comic wouldn't mind showing up to sign stuff.

Sorry for bringing up something that was already mentioned, but i'm new here.

As far as getting some people with great organizational skills and the ability to find a hall to house the event should not be to much of a problem. I think for this to be successful location is key.

but where is everyone located? if we had a turtle con, it would be better if the con was located near most of the people.

I aa from Los Angeles, but i am pretty sure that a good majority of this countries population is on the east coast. Right off the bat it would make alot of sense to hold an event like this in NY City but it would be very expensive. I was also thinking about Las Vegas (yes i know it is not on the east coast). I frequent Vegas often and it is a very inexpensive city to hold an event like this. This city wants people to visit and they accomodate accordingly. Airfare to Las Vegas from most states is fairly inexpensive. Let's toss around some ideas and see where it takes us.

Like, have a New England Region, Midwest Regions, Southern Regions... *shrugs* Have them all connected by internet communications, so it could be like one giant group?

good idea. maybe have certain areas set up with webcams too, so everyone could see whats going on at each con.

there would have to be more than TMNT at the con i would think.

That sounds like a good idea and it may work but the whole idea of this is to get everyone together in one location.
As far as having a Convention based solely on TMNT i think it can be done. They have been around for nearly 20 years and have many fans around the world. There are also many dealers and other supporters of TMNT that maybe we don't know about because they don't frequent this forum. Then of course you cannot forget about the creators, voice actors, stars of the feature films, directors. The list can go on and on. I think this can be done if we can nail down a location.

Best chance for something like that would be a 20th aniversery Con, but as far as I know Mirage has no plans for anything like that.

Maybe this would be a great opportunity to pitch something like this to them. I don't see anything negative coming out of such an event. This would only ensure the popularity of TMNT for many more years.

If in fact something like this were to go on, I'd certainly haul my ass over from Germany just to attend. (*cough* Free military air transport *cough) Naturally, I'd prefer something like this to be on the East Coast, but Vegas is significantly cheaper and overall, easier to access (cheap tickets!)

But unless Mirage sets something up by themselves, I don't forsee a fan-con really taking off quite yet. Unless someone around here has BIG bucks (I'm talkin' thousands upon thousands) that they are willing to spend to pay for guest appearances, airfare, accommodations, and general convention fees, it would be near impossible.

Though Machias' idea of a meetup in various regions is entirely within the fan communitities' grasp. As far as I can tell, there is no TMNT section on http://www.meetup.com That would definitely be the place to orchestrate something of that sort.

actually i used to be involved with the a Con that was local here. I no longer associate with it but thats a can of grumpy worms we dont want to open.

I know alot about what it takes to runone of these things.. and depending on what kind of Con you want. these are not as easy to put together as one would think.

the amount of money to set things up ALONE would be more than most people could handle. so something on a smaller scale would probably be wanted.

I personally would love to be able to go to ANY con. I am going to BAC with Raka. but I would LOVE a TMNT con.. so if anyone actually wants to try doing something like this.. drop me a line.. if nothing else I have some good information and advice

I think that could definitely be an interesting possiblility...its just to talk to the Officials about it... make up a plan for them to look at... hmm... :tread:

First of all, as far as the desirability of a turtle convention goes, I'd say it's not that bad these days, mainly due to the new show coming out. Not saying that FOX would sponsor something like that, but doing it today is much better then attempting to do it in the mid 90's. Overall, if the word somehow gets out to all the TMNT boards, especially the official one, then you'd definately have a mix of old and new fans of the show who would attend. That's the first point covered.

Second, the money part of it. Of course, putting such a thing together would be difficult, that's why I said that this person or a group of people would have to be resourceful in finding a good place and preferably well connected in the industry, to be able to garner a few guest appearances. They would not, however, have to pay for this out of their own pocket simply because, the fans would cover the cost. All you have to do is set up an admission fee for the Con, which will basically provide the organizer(s) with all the money needed. So the bigger the attendance, the more money they will have, the better the con will be. It's basically reflects the demand of the event. In order to ensure that a set number of people is going to show up on that date, set up an online registration form, where people can preregister for this, and preferably pay ahead of time too via electronic means or even mailing their cash in. If done right, this will allow the organizers to not only know how many people are coming, but also collect all the cash well in advance and subsequently make the proper arrangements.

And there you have yourself a Turtle Con. All you have to do now is find those people who have what it takes to string such an event together.
