View Full Version : Crossovers with the OT
With crossovers now being a thing that may become regularly I think a thread is needed in this topic, especially for fans of the OT who don't necessarily like the other incarnations and to discuss continuity here since it affects the OT.
"But sdp continuity is not important for this crossovers!"
While this is true; This is a TMNT forum created for the OT and a place for fans to geek out, so what's wrong with going far and above to what anyone who ever worked on the franchise ever cared for? That's what fandoms are for.
So first of all we now know thanks to Trans-Dimensional turtles that Krang's origin in the OT is that he is a member of The Kraang from the Nick Universe, funnily enough there was a thread about we never really knew more about what happened, I guess we no longer have to wonder. But does this contradict anything big in the OT? I only watched the first two seasons of the Nick show before taking a hiatus and that was a while ago so I don't really remember how the species of The Kraang was being handled. We know he was banished to Dimension X but wasn't it because of his War crimes? And wasn't Dimension X an actual galaxy in the OT or was that the Archie universe? I guess people will point out that Krang had a real body but like I've argued in the past in that episode its never specified that it was his original body, just that he got a body.
Second are there any big contradictions between Turtles Forever and Trans-Dimensional Turtles? I don't think so and I'm guessing this episode takes place after Turtles Forever since unlike the anniversary special the OT turtles aren't as surprised by their Nick counterparts while the Nick versions are shocked. Krang even mentions that they brought their counterparts. When they go to the Prime universe (again called Prime like in TF) while it implies he doesn't know where he is he doesn't outright say it so he could very well know he's in the Prime universe again. It makes sense that Krang knew he head to destroy this reality to destroy all the others since he found out in TF (the contradiction there is that last time he saved the turtleverses since he didn't want to die but didn't seem to care here). As to why the Mirage turtles hunted down the turtles again, well maybe they just didn't realize what was going on or who they were and that's why they hunted them down or an even better explanation that I came up with is the Prime timeline here is actually before Turtles Forever so they're chasing these other turtles and see them disappear, shortly after they see the OT turtles with the 2k3 turtles and attack because they know something fishy is going on with those dimesion hopping turtles that they had already encountered!
So I guess we can use this thread for any crossovers, am I missing another obscure crossover? I know the IDW comic had an anniversary issue but there was no dimensional travel was there? I guess there's the Cartoon All-Stars To the Rescue special can now be considered canon as well if anyone wants to dig into that ;)

The Prime Turtles aren't the Mirage Turtles, I see the Prime Turtles as just issue #1 of Mirage from 1984 before it became a "series." The Turtles had no real personality in #1 of Mirage, so that's why they're all mean and angry every time we see them.
Mirage TMNT would be essentially how they were in later issues with all red bandanas and individual personalities. The Prime Turtles are the #1 one-shot before they bled into all other universes.

It took me a while to reconcile Trans-Dimensional Turtles with Krang's backstory in the Fred Wolf cartoon but here is my take on it:
1. Krang was originally a reptilian creature that was related to Kraang subprime and the rest of the Kraang not as a literal first cousin, but as a species sharing a common ancestor with the Utroms, thus being related as cousins in a sense.
2. Sometime after Kraang prime mutated himself and controlled the majority of Utroms via a hive mind, Krang allied himself with prime voluntary like subprime, who never became a part of the hive mind despite being evil.
3. Krang became interested in the mutagen that Kraang Prime used on himself, having access to it due to his ties with the Kraang. Krang, however, wanted the mutagen to himself so that he could be all powerful and overthrow Kraang prime as the supreme ruler of Dimension X.
4. Krang often ventured into other parts of Dimension X (physical laws differed, thus making it Two-Dimensional) and experimented with his samples of mutagen there in order to avoid suspicion from the Kraang, creating an army of rock soldiers that were loyal to him. Since the Kraang were busy fighting the triceratons, no one paid much attention to Krang's wherabouts in Dimension X and he was presumed killed or missing in action.
5. During this time, Krang got Drakus to build him the technodrome and did many of the things that he became known for (such as fighting the local Neutrinos who resided there and allied himself with inhabitants such as Shreeka during his conquest). Krang's intentions were to build a support network strong enough to overthrow the Kraang with himself as the new ruler, thus brainwashing his rock soldiers to worship him.
6. The war with the triceratons ended however when the Kraang blew up their homeworld. During this time, Krang thought it would be a good idea to try and overthrow his former allies. Krang saw the opportunity to use his technodrome and a large number of rock soldiers to infiltrate the 3D parts of Dimension X after the Kraang suffered losses at the hands of the triceratons. This came as a shock to the Kraang, who thought their cousin was long gone.
7. While Krang was able to put up a good fight against the already exhausted Kraang, he was ultimately overpowered due to the sheer size and power of his cousins. Outraged, Kraang Prime ordered subprime to banish Krang to 2D earth with his technodrome (stripping him of his body in the process to humiliate him). Subprime agreed, and made sure that parts of Dimension X controlled by the Kraang were heavily guarded so that Krang could never infiltrate it ever again with his rock soldiers.
8. Krang then met Shredder sometime on the Earth, and the events of the OT begin as we know them.
What are your thoughts on this theory?

Agree with this theory regarding the static depiction of Prime turtles as they were in issue 1.
As for where to stick Trans-Dimensional Turtles on the OT timeline, I'd say it would go well in early season 4 of the OT due to these cues:
1. Michealangalo still frequently using his nunchucks which were present until the second half of season 4.
2. 80s Casey Jones appears in wormquake, which happened in season 3.
3. The technodrome appearing in Dimension X, where it was trapped throughout season 4.

The best "Marvel No Prize" explanations I've got is that an alternate timeline within the Fred Wolf continuity is introduced with every crossover. Without a crossover, the Archie comics were the first alternate timeline and the Japanese manga and OVA were another deviation.
The Nick crossover may prove to be the most drastic, depending on what Tiger Claw may have done to the OT Turtles before returning to his home dimension. And with the marvel of time travel, perhaps one could even reconcile the Kraang Sub-Prime's claim that OT Krang was originally a part of their species before being banished to 2D life. Personally, I think OT Krang probably sold Kraang Sub-Prime on a lie because he's too preoccupied with himself to even remember the past that well.

OK, but I see no need for Krang having a reptile-like body, since the Krang clones evolved on their own.

I like it. Good reasoning. More thought than Auman put into it, that's for sure.
Only discrepancy is the fact that (I think) it was explicitly stated that the Neutrinos themselves banned him. I could be wrong there though.

Before this crossover happened, I also assumed that the Neutrinos banished him. Looking back though, I don't think it was them, it was never explicity stated that the Neutrinos themselves banished Krang.

For another fun wrench in this, the comic strip series said at some point that Krang was a criminal Utrom too, right? And you can try and take in the 2k3 cameo joke if you want. Good luck!
Neutrinos aren't just rebels, they have a king and queen. The manga also kinda-sorta fleshes out OT Neutrino stuff a little bit too, or at least why Krang was at war with them (the mutastones).
There is probably a case that could be made that Krang is really old, and or insane, and every Krang we see in every TMNT is just the same Krang at a different stage of his life. A series of banishments and transdimensional travels and coming in an out of power, etc. You can take the OT Krang as the "latest" one, who no longer cares or remembers his true past, and makes stuff up when it comes up.

And they were depicted as almost helpless in fighting (Four Turtles and a Baby). The anime isn't even official.

I don't get it. It was stated that Krang was stripped of his body when he was banished to Earth.

The Neutrinos are a whole alien race, not just 3 teenagers. In Season 4 we see their leaders, the one where the Turtles take care of Tribble the Neutrino princess.

That doesn't say his original body was reptiloid-like. He musn't even have been born with a body. It cold have been just another robot body, or that he mutated himself like some strange Dimension X-like creature to get some other body.

I agree, Krang's backstory is still pretty vague despite all the hints we have been given so far.
Personally, I believe that Krang's species starts out with the brain like creatures and then grows into reptilian beings just like in "Invasion of the Krangzoids".

See I was always under the impression that to get away from his enemies Krang stole the Technodrome. That's why he never understood how everything worked and basically winged it. Also I was under the impression that the Rock Soldiers like General Tragg were soldiers from the other side that defected to Krang's side.

I have to agree that I think the whole thing about him losing his body, and getting Shredder to make him an android one rather than use mutagen or genetics to mutate into a new one, implies that the Utoms actively use humanoid robots as a way of living, and therefore when Krang claims he lost his body, it was the actually the humiliation of losing his robot body, not any other biological form.
Of course, the new crossover presents other problems, but I think the body one is quite easily explained.

It took me a while to reconcile Trans-Dimensional Turtles with Krang's backstory in the Fred Wolf cartoon but here is my take on it:
Here's mine:
1. We really, really love Fred Wolf TMNT and wouldn't it be cool if he was one of the Kraang we have on our show?
2. Let's just do it.

Konami games were also another deviation, except for the first one, which seemed more unique. Not to mention the Playmates toys (which may predate the Archie comic), the Welsh magazine, and the Fleetway comic, along with a few minor things. I also agree that Krang probably lied. With all those universes being deviations from the OT, I now wonder how the characters exclusive to those branches are like in the OT-verse itself?

You mean in the Fred Wolf cartoon? There's a lot of questions like that, such as how Krang met Shredder in the first place...
