I used search for this to see if it has been done, which I am sure it has, but I am curious if there has ever been a petition to bring back the vanilla pies?
Forgive me this is duplicated

Can't say I've seen one, granted I haven't exactly looked. Would love for them to come back, I don't think I ever got to try the originals. Although maybe just pestering the Hostess people through social media would be more influential than petitions they can ignore?

But if it ever happens, the filling really needs to be a nice mutagen-green this time. ;) I'm surprised it wasn't that part that was green in the originals. (Maybe the dye was more likely to stain in the filling than on the crust?)

They were pretty awesome. Wish they would just release the vanilla pudding pies. They don't have to be green. I can glaze them at home if I had to.
I just asked the wife to make some, she will try, when this day comes I will post a pic if it looks similar or tastes similar.

And I agree, a green filling or even purple filling would be cool and a throw back to the ooze in stores

There was an online petition back many years ago, not sure how many people signed it. Some recently put one together again...and they also made Twitter and Instagram accounts ("ResurrectTurtlePies" or something like that).

Also, if you search Twitter the right way, you'll find many tweets asking Hostess to bring them back. At one point, Hostess was replying and letting the people know that they had no plans to bring them back.

As I've mentioned before, I don't really want Hostess to bring them back. They don't use any of the same recipes since the brand name was bought out of bankruptcy. I'd rather have Tastykake make a version.

Finally, I actually interviewed the man who created the Turtle Pies for Hostess. They tested a green-filled version of the pies and the kids that tested them all said it felt like they were eating snot...that's why they went with the green-iced version.

Okay, story time is over! I'm obsessed with the Hostess pies if you can't tell.

Links? :)

And prob which ever one comes out the closest...

Maybe someone who loves to bake can try them out and tell us. :P Granted any individual's baking skills may also affect how close actually comes to it.

That would be cool to try them out though. I could see for fun for Halloween doing the green glaze on the outside and, as you suggested, make the inside purple. :D

Click the "multi" tab on all of the posts you wish to reply to, except for the last one, on which you should just click "quote". That will group them all together.

Ok don't try to make these things by simplifying the recipe
Or maybe I'm just a terrible cook but these things turned out terrible
I'll just stick to my current day time job
Sorry guys I tried to give you some nostalgia but I failed

Haha I don't know about that
I relied to bake some and fry some
The baked ones... All the filling came out
The fried ones .. I couldn't get the glaze to stay on

Aw man, better luck next time. How hard do you think it would be to apply the green food coloring to the pies?

I think my main problem w the glaze was that I didn't use cornstarch. I think Thatd make it much easier to get the green trademark I was trying for

Yo, sorry, I forgot to subscribe to this thread. I live between Antioch and Brentwood -- and my wife and I tried to bake some pies a while ago. Yours don't LOOK too bad! haha....ours didn't taste terrible, but the only green food coloring available at Walmart/Kroger is definitely not radioactive enough...and most of the vanilla pudding leaked out in the oven. There definitely isn't an "official" recipe out there right now.

My best attempt was to buy a Tastykake Lemon or Chocolate pie and (yes, I did this) make a hole in the back to remove the pudding. Then replace it with a Snack Pack or some of your own vanilla pudding. It seriously sends you back to 1990.

Not sure how many people it would take to get Tastykake's attention, but it sure would be nice if they'd just make some Vanilla Pudding Pies -- even without the TMNT packaging.

Also, y'all should check out my Turtle Pies collection in this Collection Photos thread if you haven't already. Took me a while to compile it all: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=55505

Almost did it the other night
