I saw this picture on a retro Playmates sales flyer.

I noticed that it looked familiar and I remembered where: The VHS cover of "Hot Rodding Teenagers"(which the Season 3 DVD cover is based off of):

Outside of the fact that there are two Donatellos, the other 3 poses match up albeit mirrored.

Does anyone know if the VHS cover based it off of these poses or did someone just "retro-rize" the art? Is the art even from a real sales flyer?

I'm pretty sure the promo flyer art came first, as you can see they hadn't yet finalized the colors for Mike and Don. The Donatello with no belt I think is even a little older than the other three turtles. When the VHS tapes came out it seems like used those poses as inspiration for the cover.

I love that old vintage art, sometimes its so funny to think of how "weird" the Turtles originally looked before they settled on standard designs.
