View Full Version : OUCH! Bad news for non-GameCube owners.

According to my new EGM, only the GameCube version has a "Casey Jones Mode" that is unlocked once you "Gather all Crystals in the GBA" version. OUCH. Good thing I'm buying it for GC.
Oh yeah, they rated the game 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 (7.0 guy says fans of the old games will love it. :D )
EDIT: Mario Kart got 10, 10 and 9.5! :o :D

does some one knows when the tmnt game will be realsed in scandinavia?
i know that it will come out the 21 october but very many games has been realsed in the us and then it have gone a long loong time before the game has been realsed in scandinavia.
hm it would be real cool if the new game will be like the old one from 91 with the title "turtles in time"
Well, if that mode is on GBA and X-box than it had better be on PS2!!! :x
If not, im going to a very unhappy camper!!!!

Fraid I'm still getting it for PS2, even though I have all systems and I love Casey. You see, I still play the old Snes and Genesis Turtle games, and 5 years from now, when the Cube is in the closet and the Xbox is in some Pawn shop, I will have a backwards-compatible PS3 and still be able to play my PS2 TMNT game on it. (it is annoying to pull out the Genesis and SNES out everytime I want to play it). And I know for certain that Nintendo's next offering will not contain backwards compatibility because Nintendo hasn't figured out one format to stick to because they always like to play things their own way, so it is very unlikely that we'll get a next gen system that will play GC games as well.
But moreover, I played the PC demo with a crappy PC controller, and I for one have a problem with only two shoulder buttons on the Xbox and GC. When I play a game with a lot of moves, I like to have some assigned to multiple shoulder buttons. And with one being reserved for the dash (It sucked so bad dashing with no shoulder), and the other button for the uppercut move.
Losing Casey (though I doubt it's exclusing to GC) is not enough reason to play it on a bad controller OUCH, like soul caliber, though I had to suffer through that one for Link.
Edit: good to see Mario K get good reviews, we are getting that game and playing it till the end of time.
And as I said, I paid the PC demo, minus an intelligently-designed controller, and I have to say the game will live up to expectations. It is fun as hell, and the turtles look great. Screw EGM's incompetent reviewers. They gave Jak2 a not-so-hot- grade because they sucked at playing it and it was too tough for them...Waaaaaah!! :)

Same thing happened with F-Zero GX. Screw EGM & they're pitiful excuse for gamers. :flaming: :D
I personally love the GC controller. It feels like it's made to fit your hand. About the Casey thing........
I love my Game Cube :)
Dosent matter controller wise to me anyway. I'm working on building an arcade cabinet in which I'll put MAME, my TMNT arcade PCB/Jamma Board, and my GC with Soul Caliber 2 (Link!!!) & the new TMNT game. When I'm finished, I'll be able to play it with a 4 player Slick Stik joystick panel. Now that's how all TMNT games were meant to be played.
Sorry for all you PS2 & X-Box owners. I really do hope they put Casey in all versions so that no one gets jipped.

I don't dislike the GC controller, but I do think it is flawed. I was playing Castlevania Aria on my GB player and sometimes when things would get furious, I would accidently push the map button because they are so jumbled together (and I have small fingers) and when fighting on SoulCaliber and pushing X and Y to do combos, I'd accidently push the mammoth button, and mess up.
BUT...The controller fits very well into your hand, like you said, and for games like Zelda, there is nothing better.
And yes, F-Zero, and Sly Cooper, and now Jak 2 suffer in reviews because these reviewers are too young to have played games when games would kick your ass and hand it to you, like back in the NES days "Ninja Gaiden anyone?"
It sux too because some people come to trust these reviews, and as a result, excellent titles like f-zero get overlooked.
As for Casey, he will be missed, but I am sticking to PS2 just for longevity. The only thing that will change my mind is if the old Arcade game is hidden in the GC version. However, nothing could make me get the Xbox Version, unless it had a four player coop mode, which aint gonna happen.

Actually I find EGM's reviews to be fairly accurate... they just seem to prefer games that are "fresh" and "innovative", and they are definitely NOT fans of beat-'em-ups like TMNT. Thus, the lower scores, which I predicted by the way. It's just like I figured... TMNT fans would love it, non-TMNT fans wouldn't care.
It's not the end of the world. It's like how wrestling games always get medium to low scores since they aren't anything "new" or "inventive". Fans like 'em, non-fans just don't care.

It probably could be on both X-box and Gamecube and not on PS2. Even if it takes a GBA to unlock it on Gamecube, it could still be a downloadable extra feature through X-box live. Thats why i love X-box so much almost ever game now, not the earlier releases but the later games have downloadable content. And its usually not just crappy stuff either, i mean splinter cell has a whole extra level.

Which, although I love classic mario a lot, I dont think it's fair that a rerelease to an old game should be judged as a new game and be given GOTM. Jak2 really deserved that limelight. But in the end the review hardly matters, in that Jak is outselling Mario.

I'd love having the arcade game on the disc, but it's not essential.
They Casey Jones mode is probably unlockable in many ways. They do the GBA thing for the GCN game and have some really difficult task to complete for the Xbox game. Which in turn makes the GBA extra rather shallow and not worth the purchase. You can play as Casey in VS mode anyway.

Keep in mind that SMB3 Advance just came out. I'm glad they rerelease all the classics. It gives the new generation a chance to see why video games exist to this day. There would be no Jak2 if not for Nintendo & Mario saving the industry from Atari's screwups in 83'. Sorry for the rant.

Dont worry ThirdMario, I am not Dissing the plumber. I grew up with him. But lately Myamoto's entry in the Mario world has been really Pathetic, and although Jak and such would not be possible without the magic of the original Marios, Jak 1 and 2 improve on a worn and withering formula. I mean how much longer can we call collecting crap in a game fun? Jak 1 even had it, but expanded a little on it with some exploration. Jak two completely does away with it. And Ratchet and Clank 2 adds experience-gaining and huge worlds (of which there are 20) to the Mix. Myamoto really needs to freshen up the Mario franchise, because Sunshine bored me to no end, and I was a firm believer that the man could do no wrong, but I found myself playing Sunshine just because it was a Mario game, and not because I was truly enjoying it. Sometimes I think people review Miyamoto games based on his name, and not on how fun the games really are. As far as Mario 1-3 are. That is sacred and untouchable. Those games will always be memorable and fun. But from Mario 64 onward, the name Mario has worn on me.
Mario 3 may be a top seller, (although he didn't outsell Jak with his rerelease, I know, my cousin works at EB), but in the long run, Nintendo's arrogance has already been toppled by Sony Sales compared to Nintendo's. Nintendo is below X-box in terms of sales, and they are a new-commer. And Mario is nowhere without a system to be played on. This is because although the games of old were great in "old" they cannot hold up to the more-demanding gamers who want more out of their games than jumping and collecting coins.
And I agree Karpo, I can just play the arcade on Mame, so I am not that worried, but I would love to play it on my giant TV. And I do think the new game will be the best yet. Already there is one reason. Fighting Nano, and before that the giant mouser, I like that the game isn't just about hacking the enemy. There are strategies that make it a bit more challenging.

Yes it does. You can hook an e-reader to the game and scan in new items, suits, and best of all new levels. I don't know how many they plan to release, but the cartrifge can hold as many as 32! They might also give away a lot in Nintendo Power as well. Just wanted to add that the item cards can be scanned over and over, and you can clear old levels off of the cart for more.... so in reality Nintendo can make hundreds of levels and release them on cards. Also, you could trade cards with people to get levels/item/demo cards you don't have.

Well I have to agree with most people, I didn't like Sunshine much either. Mario 64 was a great game. It had good levels, music and graphics... pretty much everything. They all had mario feeling in them, either there was familiar enemies or musics. I really loved the game.
Sunshine, was a disapointment for me. Yes it does have Mario characters, but it does not feel like a Mario game to me. I'm not sure why, but thats how I feel.

I smell fan boys all over this place! BTW GCN blew out both PS2 and X-Box in sales a couple weeks ago. 20% over PS2 and a mega whooping 145% over X-Box. BTW with all these people saying to play games for a living...I'd like to know how you're probably the only ones in the world who test games for a living. There's no such thing as a "game tester" career. No companies hire for that sort of thing. It's usually just for a couple months in order to work out some bugs. Sometimes of course it does last longer, but I know people who have confirmed to me that they are in the game testing business and they say it's impossible to find straight work testing games.

Definitelty not a fanboy here. Own all systems, and the only thing I am a fan of is good games, and the system who has the most-original games is the one I support. And right now PS2 and GC are those systems (just got Star Wars last night).
But I do agree, GC only outsold them because of the 100 bucks price, and now it's all back to normal.
And Hell Yah Adult Link was the best.
Oh, and I said I worked in the game industry, but I never said I was a tester. I am a cinematics guy, and just like testing, it is a contract job, so we dont work in the same company for long. I am training in 3D modeling now, and I have some good connections with some guys from Microsoft here in Austin, but I just have to see what happens.
And Third Mario, you aren't nagging, just defending a game you really like, and I can respect that. I just got tired of collecting game long time ago, and I don't agree that Mario 3 has more deapth than any PS2 game because just the exploration value of Jak is more than a platform side-scroller can have (just in the fact that you are rewarded with more than just collecting another token).
I will say though, (and to further prove that I am not a PS2 fanboy) that Zelda owns them all in terms of really rewarding with depth and reward for exploration.
