This will be for all the vintage toy talk. If it's 80's and looks like a turtle let's talk about it here.

I don't know actually, I don't do that much in re-released carded figures.
I think the older turtles are way cooler than the new ones, I dunno, just a matter of personale taste I guess. The new ones just look so...uhm....flat(?)/boring to me.
Anyway, what I always wondered is this: Is there a Gold Shogun Don?
I've seen one of the other turtles but never of Don, it seems strange that they didn't produce him in Gold since all the others were...
Anyone know anything about this?
Also what are some of your favourite old TMNT's?
VaughnMichael

Those Gold Armored Shogun Turtles are tough to find. They are just one of the few things i am missing from the collection.
As far as my favorite TMNT goes, i really like the entire Shogun series with Shoate and Triceraton being my favorite of the group. Both are well sculpted and just look awesome in the chrome armor.
Putrescent- Now that i am thinking about it, alot of the figures that you listed i have never seen on the re-released cards. I don't really collect the re-released carded stuff but i have seen a bunch and i don't think i have seen any of those.
I know i started this thread to talk about vintage TMNT and i hope it gets the sticky post treatment. In case it falls down to the bottom i created this

Check it out if you want. In the meantime let's keep this going. :D

About the Purple Warning Labels on Original Re-Releases, they were removed from my list sometime ago. I aquired several slightly different colored labels on eBay. After comparing all of them, I realized that these Purple Labels were actually Blue Labels but the ink they used to print the cards was much darker than normal. They also have some that are Light Blue in color, these were printed with lighter inks. I consider them to be the same Blue Label card since the Printed Year on each card was exactally the same, (1995). Does anyone have any Original Figure Purple Label cards with a Different Year?
Some of the Characters you listed were released on more than one card type. Some were released on similar cards but the backers and the paint was different. There are also different inserts.

I remember when and where I got my first TMNT figure. It was back in 1988 and I was five. It was my brother's birthday, so I went with my grandad to get him a present at the local KB Toys. I can remember actually standing there in the store looking at the rack of figures. I picked my brother out a TMNT figure, but then I just had to have one, too. My grandad bought the one for my brother's present and bought me one too. It was a Donatello with a soft rubber head. I still have it. It was pretty much downhill from there, because my brother (who is a year younger than me) and I ended up owning practicially everything TMNT between the two of us.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Studying the back of the cards to plan out which figures I would ask for next. My first were the four turtles (cant remember which order). Then I got Bebop and Rocksteady, and from there I bought up pretty much everything TMNT. The figures were all I asked for for christmas, birthdays or any other occasion. Before I broke/lost some of the figures, I had a pretty large collection. Some figures/vehicles that I never got but always wanted were:
Wignut and Screwloose, The Turtle Copter, Movie Star Turtles, Rahzar, Super Shredder, Starage Shell Turtles, and Merdude.
Some of my favourites of the old line are
the original turtles, Groundchuck, Walkabout, Panda Khan, Tokka, Slash, Triceraton, and General Traag

This was the Original 1st issue of April. I see this figure on eBay all the time so I don't consider it to be rare. It usually goes for $10 - $15 on eBay.

Weird, I have over 80 MOC orginal series Turtles including many rare ones that I got off Ebay. But I never see a April o Neil without the blue stripes. Everytime I see a auction for her, she has the blue stripes down her side or its a auction for the orange "press pass" version.

I don't think they made a Shogun Don in gold. I've seen sets of the Shogun in gold with all the different colored weapons and Don is always in Silver. If they made him in gold then I would guess its very rare.

I've got a question for you vintage fans out there. You know the Technorover vehicle from the 1987 cartoon episode Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X, was it ever made as a toy? It REALLY looked like toy material.
Thanks for reading :)

You know, as a Kid my parents couldn't afford to get me everyone I wanted. I had Rocksteady, but no Bebop... I never got any versions of Krang (someone gave one to me several years back) I really wanted to get the other Channel 6 news team figs (I have April and I had Irma.. lost her glasses though) and there are just literally hundreds of ones I wanted, but never got. And looking back, some of the characters like Dr. El I'm just smacking my head saying "I got that instead of (such and such)?!?!?
My one problem with the figures... they never had the budget to do painted accessories. And with character pack ins (Screwloose, the little joey the kangaroo guy came with, etc.) that really dissapoints. They did the SAME thiung with the Earthworm Jim line (with the exception of Peter Puppy) and there were actually 2 varients of Snot for each Snot Pack in (red and green)...

Oh, i like the old Turtles very much. But I think the new ones are great. too.
The new Figures look like they are grown up, with the Kids who loved them in the 80ies.
Know what I mean?
I`m an Adult now, and so lokk the new Turtles. It`s much better done than for example the Masters. I Don`t like the new very much, and own only Mer-Man and Castle Grayskull! :)
My favourite Character from the 80ies was Michaelangelo, oh how i wished, i could be like him
:D
The old Vehicles were vera great, too. The Party Bus is just like God :)
Man how I begged my Santa for a Raphael back in the days....hehe, that must be the most precious toy I own, just because of the memories.
I couldn't nearly get all the figures I wanted, my parents didn't give me a lot of allowence, so I sporadically bought some new ones. I had no Shredder toy at all, so when the new toys appeared I immediatly bought a Shredder and a Foot Soldier because I've always wanted those.
I'm just smacking my head saying "I got that instead of (such and such) same here
Chewie: Yeah, I think Mike was my favorite too when I was a kid. I'd thought in recent years that I'd held Don in pretty high esteem too, and nowadays it's pretty close between Leo and Raph, but going back over my collection I've got more Mikes than anyone else (and only half as many Dons) so I'm taking that as evidence that I liked him better. I also think maybe it had to do with the live-action movies -- even now I'll admit that Mike was the cutest and most fun in the films. Raph was a little too tough and weird for me, Leo seemed like kind of a jerk, and damned if Donatello wasn't the ugliest turtle you ever saw in a movie. And those stalagmite teeth in III were just too much.
The figs that I wish I had now are the really oddball ones with the anime flavor -- the Super Turtles, Metal Mutants, Muta Force (mechs!), and the Mutant Masters lines. And of course the Next Mutation figs are pretty cool. I was into video games at that point, though, so I didn't spend much on toys. Unfortunately video games don't leave one with much to look back on -- they're not concrete like toys and they lack the substance of a great book. Plus, unlike the former, I can't take pictures of them and give them starring roles on SC. :P

It's a scary thing when someone starts trying to decide which of the TMNT are their absolute favorite. I'm one of those who try their best not to claim a favorite. I love all four of them. But, to quote Lloyd Goldfine:
"If I were forced at Katana Point to choose one favorite, you might hear me squeak the name "Leo." But, as soon as I did, Mike would make me laugh, Don would do something brilliant, and Raph would get mad and storm off and I'd just be back to loving them all all over again."
As far as the figures are concerned, Leo and Raph are my favorites. Leo because he was my first one. Raph, because unlike the other three, he didn't have ridiculous feet that were nearly impossible to stand.

Hmm, so this is the vintage thread...are Next Mutation figures eligible for discussion? I just got a few of 'em recently...and man, these things are awesome. Ugly as all hell, yes, but I think they're my favorite Turtle figures yet, appearance-wise (with the possible exception of the Suuuupa Tatorusu, of course). They could use a little more articulation, and maybe be a tad larger, but still -- awesome. :tlove:

NM is vintage stuff too since it's part of the same toyline. I also like these. My least favorite of the bunch is Splinter. You can't really do much with him, and he looks weird. I like the rubbery touch on the Turtles. I made a cape for Venus when I first got the figure. Now I'm thinking of making a new one to look more accurate to the show. One side is turquoise the other is black, and it has a hood. Looks cool to me. Love the Rank Warriors. Wish I could find more of these guys. The only thing that bugged me was why make Elite Guards if they weren't even on the show. Where were the Foot Soldiers?

well I'm glad we didn't get foot soldiers that were show like....because my lord were they bad looking on that show lol....I really wish the elite guards would have been on the show....my god could you imagine if next mutation would have went on like it was suposed to....I could only imagine in time it may have ended up like this new show...that would be so great.I'm actully sad allot of those toys didn't come out I really wish I could find the photos of them from toy fair.

Yeah, the rubbery touch is okay -- the only one of those I have is a Venus. But by far my favorites are the other three I have. Harder plastic, yes, less range of motion for their arms, true, but they've got frickin' bedsheets growing out of their skulls! It's so awesome. BEDSHEETS IN THEIR SKULLS!!!! And Donnie's is a jungle thing...the brick walls and stuff make sense, but when was the last time the Turtles did battle in a rain forest? Maybe in a few of the Archie comics, but that's about all I can come up with.
Ahhhh they rock, though. I need more NM figs. A Raph would be nice. :)

For some strange reason I really, really loved the Cyber Samurai figures from the old line. Currently I have em all asides Bebop and I still need one of Mikes fists and hsi chest armour.
Just wondering how many colours did they issue their accessories in? So far I have blue, grey and purple sai's for Raph unless some came with other figures but just using the same mould. I also have a grey vesion of don's bo but have also seen purple ones.
Also does anyone know where i can get decent pics of Cyber Samurai Mikes, Shredders, Bebops and leo's weapons?

Hi guys. Great to be among a community of Turtle fans at last.
You guys might wanna skip this - it's long. Apologies.
MEMORIES.
I don't remember the date, or the exact time - but i'm pretty sure it was in the Summer. I was being looked after by my foster "minder" - a nice lady called Kathy. She had cottoned on pretty quick that this Turtles fad was a damn desperate one for all us 10 year olds.
Turtles always sold out quick around my neck of the woods. It was scary to get hold of one cos we were so conscious that these toys aren't just "toys" - they're more than that to us and fights could even break out at school over these beauties. They were GOLD-DUST back in the day. They were the Buzz Light Year, Power Rangers or Pokemon of my generation. Everyone at school desperately wanted all the figures. Heck - I desperately wanted a figure. i was the type of kid that was best buddies with the excessively rich kid in school that had EVERYTHING and flaunted it teasingly in my face. And that's where i'd see all the new figures - in the playground oogling at these masterpieces in their greasy, unloving mitts! But i was aware of the fact that my parents would never really allow money to be spent on "toys" - to them, it just WASN'T a viable worthwhile investment (unlike crap exercise books, and maths stationary sets, and ZZZzzzz). This gave me a guilt trip complex (which i still have to this day). it's not like i was "too old". Jeez, parents never understand kids, do they? It had reached the point where i was so mortyfied to ask for a toy that i resigned myself to the fact that I'd probably NEVER be in possesion of anything from my favourite cartoon about those halfshell ninja greenies. And even if they said "here, son, go and buy all the figures you want" - just where was i supposed to go? The figures came and WENT as quick as a flash. They were hotcakes. All hope was lost..
THE DAY I GOT MY FIRST TURTLE FIGURE.
One hot summer's day, outside of my junior school - after school's end - to my amazement there was this guy, man, fella, person, GOD with a SUITCASE full of Turtles figures. I mean, this guy could have been a child molester (not that i knew what they were back then), this guy could have been a shiesty fruedster, a ripp-off merchant, etc but I DIDN'T CARE. This was awesome. This was it. This must have been a signal from the mystic Turtle forces above that i'd finally get a chance to get a figure.. But wait - where was my CASH?! Well, i didn't have any!
DAMN.
I had to live off pocket money hand-outs (as al kids do) and this day i forgot to bring it to school..
SLIPPING AWAY THE CHANCE FOR JUST ONE FIGURE OF NINJA ESSENSE!!!!
But then - remember old Kathy (my generous minder? top of the post-read it!).. She could see i was whetting myself and these toys were selling quick. Even the kids who had the turtle figures were buying MORE and dupes of what they already had.. or getting those rare ones - so Aunt Kathy (bless her goodnatured soul!) could see we had to act fast. She asked me which one i wanted.
SHAME ON ME. The guilt complex was coming in. Minder buying me a toy? What would parents say? Try not to think of it (or the shouting, or the lectures, or the beats for "wasting money"). I had to block it out and GET ONE. AT LEAST ONE!
Which one? I know which one.. Look in the suitcase... Look in the--Where is he? Where??? - **THERE** HE IS!!!!!
Raphael. :D <--- artist's impression of my exact face moonbeam smile on this GREAT DAY.
At last. i had him. I had a turtle figure, ney - THE best Turtle figure ever made, ever in the History of Toys (TM) (or so according to me!). I had rescued my fav Turtle: Raphael. Sure, i had to battle down the raging, hungry zombie-like-Turtle-chasing kids who wanted their 3rd (!) replacement Raphael figure (so they could break him into teeny weeny pieces in their playsets - AGAIN) - but i had to stand tall and make sure he wasn't going to leave my loving grasp!
To wrap up, that was a great moment in my life. Course, Raphie was opened straight away and lovinginly played with, to my childhood delight! As for good ol' aunt Kathy - well, after seeing the happiness that finally getting my first fav Turtle figure gave me, she kindly later bought me a Michaelangelo and a footsoldier (she couldn't find Donetello and The Shredder that i requested from the fabled "Man With The Suitcase full of guns.. oops, i mean Turtle Toys). I swear, to this day, that man remains a legend in all primary/infant and junior school circuits of the north London Area. People say this man was an urban myth, a figment of my imagination - but i know different ;) I know he was sent from The Turtles to bring warmth and loving to us Turtle Adoring kids. The "Man with the Suitcase - TM" was later seen moving into the top of my road. No doubt the killing he made off us all was enough to buy him a new house.. But what a guy! 'Sniff.

This thread ROCKS. I have a ton of old stuff. I never knew why I really got into TMNT (I was so little I can't remember) but I think I figured it out. One of the few things I remember from like being a 2 year old was a babysitter that had older kids who had like every single tmnt action figure and wouldn't let me play with them. They also only let me watch them play the tmnt arcade game. My Mom told me that one day I just reached out of the shopping cart at toys r us and grabbed a donatello. She told me at first she thought it was disgusting but I guess now she's just more sick of it than anything ;)
Donatello I guess was my first, but not my favorite, Leonardo all the way!
The hardest figure for me to find is Undercover Leonardo, well it WAS the hardest. I finally shelled out a hundo bucks for it :(

You should've gotten a cheap Undercover Donatello and painted his mask blue.

I was interested in seeing if anyone new about the metal rpg turtle minatures that were produced during the 80's. I'd never heard of these, but I saw an old advertisement for them in a back issue of volume 1 mirage I got off ebay.
I tried to look some up some information on them using search engines but had no luck. Does anyone have anything to contribute?

I have a buch of them. There were two different scales produced, most of the figures were small 25mm figures, around 1 inch, but the four turtles were also available in a larger size (just over 2 inches each) The small figures were fully assembled except for an occasional weapon. The large figures had to have the arms glued on and the weapons glued into place. The small figures were originally released in baggies on a Dark Horse card. They later changed to a card with a regular blister and the Dark Horse logo and then later releases replaced The Dark Horse logo with a TMNT logo and picture of Leonardo.
Here are the packs of the 25mm figures I have:
#142 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
#166 TMNT #2, Splinter, Shredder Mousers(x4)
#174 TMNT #4, The Foot (four Foot Soldiers)
#176 TMNT#6, Turtles with energy weapons
#177 Terror Bears
#179 Dr. Feral & Henchmen
??? Fugitoid, Casey Jones & Triceraton
??? Triceratons & flying harness (x2)
If you want pictures, let me know.

Remember old cartoon casey's voice ? that was menacing enough !

Hello guys.
I'm new here, so my bad if this is the wrong thread for this, but...
I'm 25, and was really into TMNT back in the late 80's/early 90's.
One of the items I still have is a 4-pack containing all 4 turtles.
It is in a box with a clear plastic window for easy viewing of the toys inside.
The box sports the common TMNT logo.
The turtles are exactly the same as the ones released on blister cards.
I have searched eBay and browsed these forums, and I can't find any info on this.
My question is--do I have a rare item? or is it pretty common?
Thanks for your help.

Iv'e heard that the Shogun TMNT are really rare, is this really the case? If so I'm really regretting not buying all the ones they had in this isolated toy store about 7 years ago. I only got Splinter but opened him.

The Turtles, April, Splinter and Shredder aren't that rare but Shogun Shoate and Triceraton are extremely rare and are considered the Holy Grails of TMNT IMO of course. There are also Gold Armor versions of Leo, Raph and Mike that are also very rare for the Shogun series.

Foreign packages had multiple languages on them. Sometimes you can find 'Heroes In A Half Shell!', Heroes Dans Uni Demi Carapace!', 'Heroes En Demi Coquille!' etc, written in the front and a bunch of other fereign text on the backers. They're pretty cool! I really like the special boxes some counties packed their figures in. Some places used small boxes instead of cards. :D
I would love to see any foreign package types you have, if you're able to get a photo.

This has been bothering me for some time. Did Shogan Shoate share any parts of his mould with any other TMNT figures? Just to me it seems odd if he was cast from a new mould and the rest of the Shogans were re-used moulds.

Simple question what is the rarest subset of turtles figures ala Kowabunga crackin, warriors of forgotten sewer, undercover turtles. Also what is the rarest figure is it Scratch.

im thinkin the rarest of those figs would be the undercover turtles, and i think shogun shoate might be a little bit rarer then scratch.
MrPliggins

The rarest figure is Spellcaster Splinter, as it was never released and only a few prototypes were made. As far as released figures, I think Shogun Shoate and Shogun Triceraton are rarer than Scratch, although Scratch does have a pretty hefty price...

I have seen and bought multiple Scratches in the last few years but found it harder to find Shogun Shoate and Shogun Triceraton.
Value wise, Scratch seems to be worth more than Shogun Shoate, but I have had a harder time finding Shogun Shoates than Scratch figures.

!! are u sure?? i see sumo turtles a few times and go up to 76 and winged warriors for up to 60...mutant masters i have only seen mike twice but none of the other others..u know where i can get any? besides myteefinestuff.com where they go for 250 each
Yea myteefine puts them at 250 each but i have NEVER seen them go for that much..in fact I dont think ive seen any fig go for that much, icluding shoate, tricer, undercovers, etc...maybe scratch but rarely....lately, every time ive seen a mutant master up it goes for around $45 or so..often less than that....but as you know, on ebay it just depends on the day...back in september i used buy it now to pick up sumo mike for $16 and a few days later it went for $165!..so it just depends on whose looking and whose biddin... :)

so do ppl want figures like sumo mike or undercover turtles cuz they are rare or cuz they actually look cool?? im thinkin rare cuz they dont really appeal to the eye lol
I think they're kinda cool actually...i mean the undercover do have cloth coats...consideirng the amount of figs in the line and for these to be the only ones with cloth accessories (except for splint, etc.) is kinda neat...the sumo ones are cool too in just how fat and mutiatled mike and raph look...but of course, its also nice to go after a rare item just to have a rare toy...
aramconbrat
04-25-2005, 11:02 PM
I have multiple Scratches that I've picked up for under $20 each... But Shogun Shoate and Shogun Triceraton definately show up less than Scratch (or so it has seemed in my search).
After those guys, I see very few Winged Warriors, Cloth Coat Undercover Turtles, Sumo Turtles, and I've been trying to get a Warrior Chrome Dome and haven't been able to locate one.
I personally think the winged warriors are neat and would love to add them to my collection. They aren't necessarily a must because they have had hefty prices lately on Ebay but they are always a nice addition to a collection. There however, are so many other turtle figures that came out between 1988 and 1997 that although I pursue these turtles, there are many more I need before these are the last additions I need for a complete collection.
The Cloth coat Undercover turtles just have a neat appeal because they are very similar to the Turtles in the cartoon as many times they dressed up in trench coats. The real cloth makes them a bit more unique than all other figures.
The winged warriors, I am just a huge fan because I love how they chose only to do the cool coloured turtles (purple and blue) in them. Those colors blend much nicer than Raph's red or Mike's orange would have.
The Sumo Turtles are just a very neat addition. They are just such a twist on the original turtles and seeing them so fat is entertaining.
I wouldn't say that any of these figures (other than the Winged Warriors but that is personal biased) is anything spectacular compared to some of the figures released in the nine years of toy production. Just a matter of production numbers and finding one to round out a collection and getting it that much closer to completion is definately just a feeling of pride. It is just a matter of finding a good deal on these. Lately there has been a lot more bidding for these items on Ebay and the prices are a bit out of my range. I would prefer to spend $50 on 30-50 other figures I don't have rather than on one of those listed.
I know they say Scratch is rare, and finding him on his card seems to be a rare chance, but there seems to be plenty of loose Scratches on the market!

At first the theme figures were just that, a theme that would give Playmates an excuse to make more figures. But a lot of the later figures were designed to play off of other action figure lines that Playmates aquired.
Universial Studios Monsters : Monster Force
Turtle Trolls: Stone Protectors
Star Trek : Star Trek (obviously)
Dino Figures: Primal Rage
Muta Force Turtles: Exo Squad
Coil Force Turtles: Ronin Warriors
And then there were a couple of lines that were based off of the Japanese Manga and OVA versions of the TMNT.

I'd never buy loose turtles off eBay, you never know where those guys have been. I'm actually the point where I have all my loose turtles from when I was a kid, and I played with them so much as a kid, that I don't even care about loose anymore. My original loose figures are in a big plastic tub in the basement, save for 2 or 3 which are on my desk, and my original 1988 turtles which are on a shelf in my basement. I only buy moc now, especially since it's so freakin cheap. The majority of moc turtle figures stay under a $10 price tag. Only the rarest get any $$ whatsoever, and even their price tags have gone down recently.
Rarest Original TMNT figures ---- price they used to fetch ---- current price
Shogun Triceraton $400 $125
Scratch $300 $100
Undercover Leonardo $125 $80
Shogun Shoate $100 $50
Undercover Mike/Raph $100 $50
Undercover Don $80 $40
Hotspot $50 $25
There's probably a few other rare turtle figures, but those are the only ones I can remember as those were the ones I used to watch more often than not. I think the overall rarest figure is probably the rahzar with fur, as I've never even seen one, most definitely wasn't sold at retail, but there could be production samples out there.
I always thought the bodacious birthday turtles were a great idea. What better toy to get someone for their birthday party than a ninja turtle in birthday suits.... err that didn't come out right.

As a kid I loved those variants, so if they started doing birthday turtles with the new line I probably wouldn't get upset. I am upset with the variants of the new line for a different reason. They're so bland, in the old line the variants were new sculpts, in this line the variants are retools and in most cases just extra armor here or there. A cheap way to keep costs down I guess, but it does effect the quality of the overall product by doing that more often than making new sculpt figures. You'll notice a lack of interest in the line and eventually it'll go downhill instead of staying fresh.

For any of you that have the smaller krang android body or for those of you that might know. Did the krang body come packaged two ways meaning I have found pictures that have one with what I would call a collectors card then one that has a little krang walker or do thay both have the walker and it's just behind the card. Does the blue walker have moving parts or is it a solid pieces? Which one came out first? Also is krang just pink and a solid piece.
Thanks for any help or answers.

Most of the figures came packaged multiple ways. They both would have had the same accessories, it's just that you can't see some of the accessories in the figure with trading card's bubble, because, as you suggested, they are behind the card. The blue walker DOES have moving pieces, but there's really not much point to trying to pose it. Krang is just a pink solid piece with a bit of paint, his tentacles aren't articulated like the larger version's. I think the figure was released with a card, a collector's coin, both, and also with neither, but I'm not sure. TMNTman would be the one to ask, I think.

Hi,
Krang was released a few times with different cards. The initial release was the Krang in his walker. Krang was pink with moveable arms and came with the older backs that have somewhat "primitive" (for lack of a better word) drawings on the card. This Krang was released a few times on different cards, but Krang in a walker was the first release. His walker is blue plastic and the legs can be moved and placed however you wish. It also has a clear dome that goes over Krang.
Then there is the original Krang's Android Body. He's over a foot tall, and had Krang in the belly portion. He was the same sculpt as the Krang with the Walker but has blue veins showing. He came in a box.
Towards the end of the TMNT (before the Next Mutation), there was the late released 5.5 inch figure that was Krang's Android body that was released on the late, darker (purple) cards. He came with a collectors card and/or a collectors coin. He was in size with the rest of the figures and had a small pink removable Krang in his stomach.

If you've got the right accessories, yes the grey gun fits into the camera. The top of the gun just slides in horizontally.

okay so is it a tight fit or is it a somewhat fit. As a side note I think it's funny how the package reads Amazing arm movement.

So I have done searches on this site, ebay, and the web but I have yet to find a clear picture of the back of the box of the tecnodrome. The reason is it would be nice to have a Picture that is readable or one that could at least be magnified to be read. So if there is anyone here that is lucky enough to be able to take a Picture. Oh and by the way when I was on ebay I saw boxed technodrome with box but it is overseas and the shipping is 90.00 That's more than I paid for for my two loose+shipping. I can't wait to see if anybody is going to place a bid.
Thanks,

Question for some of the old school people:
How come some of the vintage Shredders (the classic one with the AWFUL mold as if he's crouching to perform a ninja number 2) have blue paint apps on the armor while others have silver paint apps?

Silver paint apps are from the "toon Shredder" I think so....
I've got a significant collection of Vintage Figures. They'd look fantastic in a glass case, but that's where my Iron Man collection is dwelling currently. I was one of those people who saved every stinkin accessory too.
It'd be pretty impressive if someone had a complete vintage TMNT collection.

I recently bought a couple of the vintage figures and was wondering if there were any type of plastic cases they can be displayed in without damaging the card? Kind of like how Star Wars figures have Star Cases. Is there anything like that for Turtles? Thanks.

My April in yellow jumpsuit figure I bought from ebay arrived today. She's a great figure. She is the orange stripe April. How many April in yellow jumpsuit variants are there? I know there is a blue stripe out there. Is there a no stripe, and other colors?
On the topic of the vintage figures, I don't like it that some of the figure's weapons and gear are on a rack. I have to remove them from the rack, and then take a nail file to the jagged pieces. I also wish the weapons were painted, or at least molded in different colors sometimes. For example, a silver sword would look better than a brown sword, I think so at least.

Well, if you are opening your vintage figures then you should have no problem customizing them! A little duct tape around the handles and some glossy silver spray paint in the blades and you are good to go!!

Well that sux...i take it you bought him loose and didn't confirm krangs presense...you're going to be hard pressed to find the tiny krang all by himself (unless someone on here has an extra to trade/sell which you can request in the Buying forum...)...if not, you'll have to buy another, on card to be certain, or if loose, then make sure B4 the purchase...:)

Yeah. I bought him in a large lot purchase from eBay. He was pictured, but sort of "there" in the picture with a TON of other stuff. Overall, the lot was worthwhile, but ugh... it's a key part to the toy. It's cool to have, but I'd actually be less "ugh'd" out by having a giant brain in the stomach than by the empty area... lol.

i'm about to start collecting TMNT figures. Well, i say start, but i already gotta bunch! all MOC too! Over here its hard to find new TMNT figs, and honestly, i prefer the old ones anyway... so far i've got Splinter, Leo, Don, Raph, Mikey, Shredder, Rocksteady, Panda Khan and Space Usagi. I'm not gonna collect variant TMNT figures, just non-turtles. Perhaps after this is complete i'll turn my mind to collecting the various turtles that came out, but not right now, its daunting as it is! (There's more than 50 i want, so it should take some time! and money!!) I wanna start getting them in the order of release, and will probably use www.myteefinestuff.com for most of it, unless i come across some on ebay for cheaper. I prefer the orginal issue boxes, but to be honest, i'm gonna take them anyway i can, as long as its MOC!
so here's what i'm gonna get next, in the new year (probably start in february!)
april
foot soldier
bebop
casey jones
ace duck
then the next lot, probably in april/may (hopefully i'll get 5 or so every 2 or 3months, it costs around $90 each time ((for 5 figures that is, not 1!!)) on myteefinestuff)
krang
general traag
leatherhead
usagi yojimbo
genghis frog
and so on and so forth!

One of my local comic shops got tons of new things. Mostly vintage Turtles! All of which were still carded or boxed and he was only asking $4 each (including the boxed ones). $40 later, had all of these
Road Ready Mutations:
Splinter to the Party Wagon! W00T!
Shredder to Module! Again, W00T!
Don to race car that looks like the Transformer Jazz. Heck, even has #4 stickers.
Leo to fire truck. He was the last of the set, so I got him.
Have been wanting these guys since 2nd grade :D
Carded figures:
Headdroppin' Raph. Ninja Power card.
Venus de Milo. One of two fromTNM that I want. The other is Bonesteel.
Bebop. Pizza on the card back. Think these are the '93-'94 release.
Rocksteady. Pizza card back.
Robotic Foot Soldier. Only release I know of. Is he rare? If so, he's staying carded.
Movie Star Foot Soldier. Pizza card back.
My Foot army is growing :D
Also got Corahda (Cobra) vs. Saberback (Stegosaurus) from the old Beast Wars Neo line.
Here's some pics of the Road Ready figures:

Hi I'm new here and trying to get my collection started. Today, I found some deals and would really appreciate some input :D So my first one is a set of four mint/near mint ninja turtles for about $30. They have their usual weapons but none of the extra ones. My second one is a set of four ninja turtles and splinter, complete with all accessories for $54. Both sets are loose. Do those prices sound reasonable?

Congratulations! I know what you mean about the vintage stuff on ebay, seems as though everyone's shelling out for the movie gear while all this great rare vintage stuff is surfacing and selling for just about nothing. I'm acutally seeing things I couldn't find and would have paid $50 for last year selling every week or so for less than $10. Insanity. I've been too busy working on my original collection to bother with the movie figs, my guess is that they pumped out enough of those things so that I'll be able to get most of them pretty cheaply in a year or so when the newness has faded.

Thanks. Yeah, as I've said, I've had hundreds of carded figures... only they were carded for maybe 10 seconds at the most! Even today, I only keep figures I get double of, carded (except if I get any more vintage, regardless of if I already have a copy, I'll keep it carded).
With so many other things to pay for in life, I don't know when the next time I get another figure is.
Well, just take your time with it...carded figures are very fun to collect and you can get some great ones for just a few bucks on ebay so don't think you have to shell (no pun intended :P ) out major money to get carded figures...good luck!

Hi. I want to collect the true original 1988 figures. What came first the soft head figures, the hard head figures, the soft head figures with the fan club flier, or the figures with the pop up display?
Also, on another post in this forum I saw it says there was no soft head Foot Soldier. I have an issue of Toy Review which gives a price for a soft head Foot Soldier. Are they incorrect about its existence? It is only valued at $5 more than the hard head version. The guide also seems to be missing some figures that do have versions with fan club fliers as I saw them on myteefinestuff.com. If someone could tell me the original 1st issue version and packaging for each of the 1988 figures that would be the absolute best.
Thanks for any input,

just a quick question on Scumbug that hopefully someone knows the answer to.
Was there ever a variant with a very dark grey boot as opposed to his green boot?
I got a Scumbug today with a grey boot. The figure is in excellent condition and the paint app's definitely look factory. It could be just a factory error but I just want to know if somebody knows the answer before I start trying to scratch underneath to see if there is any green under there.
Thanks.

I rarely check these things but since no one else answered I'll do it.
Splinter642 the very first Turtles are the soft heads with FCF inside the package and FCF ad printing on the back of the card.
I have never seen a soft head Foot Soldier or April. As far as I'm concerned they do not exist until I see both a carded and loose sample. Only the Turtles themselves came with the flyer. Sure some people claim they found bebop and a few others with flyers but if you notice the flyer is always pictured floating around loose inside the bubble. It's very easy to slip a flyer inside from the bottom slit of the bubble. The flyer's proper placement should be neatly folded in between the inner bubble and outer bubble right behind the accessories. There’s a little square groove in the inner bubble where it goes. There's no way you can get it in there without completely removing the bubble from the card. Most of them should also come with the ad printed on the backer card. So without these signs I do not believe they are authentic.
Jaffleman, yes Scumbug comes with a very dark grey/black boot and the regular green boot. If you see them carded the backer cards are different.
Ooh and on another vintage note, earlier this year I found another Genghis Frog variation. There are 2 different types of black belts! Cool, but of course it's so minor I'm probably the only person in the world who would find this interesting. I can post a pic it anyone wants to see.

I have 3 different belts. One with small studs at the buckle (this variant also has a crappy peg for the hole and makes the belt hard to attach), and two with large studs and better pegs that allow the belt to attach with ease. Of the two with larger studs, one is considerably longer and made of a completely different plastic.

This brings to mind a couple Transformer websites where you can do a search by color, shape, or generation, and you can figure out what accessories go to what TF.
I haven't seen anything like that for the turtles, but it would probably be helpful. I'd be willing to help out with pics if somebody was ambitious enough to set up such a site.

One with small studs at the buckle (this variant also has a crappy peg for the hole and makes the belt hard to attach), and two with large studs and better pegs that allow the belt to attach with ease. Of the two with larger studs, one is considerably longer and made of a completely different plastic.
By the way TMNTgal, is your variants page still around?
In can no longer seem to find it.
Also does anyone know who if anyone this purple chain accessory belongs to?

On eBay there is the first release toys by Playmates in 1988. I think they have Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael. Someone is bidding on the Donatello but he probably bid at a low price like $5.49. Go to www.ebay.com and check it out!

Howdy all - first time poster here.
After dusting off my old collection and giving up on the current line when I saw the Movie stuff, I'm hunting for the old-school stuff MOC. Yes, the bug has bitten me all over again!
My question is, I've seen lots of the same characters on several different card backs. Are these 'newer' card backs KOs or simply reissues? I don't plan on getting all the variants, but where possible I'd like to get the original cards. Have I just made recollecting a whole heap harder for myself or does it ultimately not matter?
Also up till now I've been a "Mint-on-Shelf" kinda person meaning I've opened everything I've got till now. This is ok cause I've got plenty of shelves, but I've never displayed MOC stuff before and am concerned about breakage when tacking them to the wall. Any hints/tips/advice?
Thanks in advance.

I just got back into the vintage toys again all on card, I already bought a whole bunch without thinking :) the best way to do it. I was wondering if there are any protective cases anyone knows about that can fit these. The protech cases that holds the simpsons and star trek figures are just a tad bit too small. Any options?

Have you ever seen those auctions on Ebay where the vintage TMNT figures are in plastic bags? Their not like Ziplock bags more like the bags that they put comics in only bigger. I think they are pretty much the only option for vintage TMNT unless you want to pay 100.00 a pop to get AFA to custom case them. I haven't tried to track the bags down yet but I guess that they are intended for old record albums or magazines.

AFA luckily isn't that much they range from $18-$28 for a regular figure under $200 depending on year and how fast you want it back.
I like the star cases because they were about $1.50-$2.00 each, plastic bags may prevent dust, but I want them to be more protected for the long run, I plan on having them for awhile.
Thanks Though.

I just ordered a Playmates Savage Dragon figure from Amazon because it had a TMNT logo on it. After some research I found that the character bios on the Playmates TSD figures all mention the TMNT.
Are these actually considered part of the TMNT line (like the three Usagi figures, Gennosuke, and Panda Khan) or are they separate? I'm leaning toward the latter, as the TMNT logo is so small compared to the TSD logo being so prominent, and the fact that I can't find them on the TMNT official site.
Thanks!

They were part of the TMNT line. The series included four Savage Dragon figures and three TMNT figures designed by Jim Lee. They all come with the same crossover mini-comic (well, same on the inside but the cover is different for each figure).

My vintage collection started with a bang: for my twelfth or thirteenth birthday, I got to go to Toys R Us to get whatever I wanted, within reason.
I got the four Turtles, Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady. It was close enough to a complete collection to thrill me; it was months before I found an April, by which time I had about 30 TMNT figures.
...all of which I sold for $20 a year or so later so I could score some acid for me and my friend.

I have never seen one. I still don't understand why they made some Mikey's with gold armor. They didn't quite stick to the card art. I can only guess they were mistakes, last minute changes or the metal-like finish process for Mike's armor was added at the same time as the other armor pieces. Did you ever find out anything about this Vaughn?

SO...I finally broke down and bought a factory sealed Technodrome. I have been hunting for about 7-9 months now, and so far nothing, except one I saw on ebay sell for $700 or $800. I was hoping one would pop up, but nothing, just mounds and mounds of loose or loose with box.
But it is cool, even though it was a little more extra than I was hoping I was assured it was in pristine condition, and I got it as a b-day gift from the wife :)
I am now only missing one item from my TMNT collection ecerything else I have (not the entire series, just what I grew up with) and that would be the 11" Krang android.
I now have 57 carded (1988-1993) figures, and about 35 factory sealed vehicles/playsets (1988-1993)
my luck a technodrome will show up on ebay within 2 weeks....it ALWAYS happens.

I grew up with the turtles in the 88-93 era so that is mainly what I cared about, but the neca figures are very cool, so it will be easy to collect those since they aren't exactly flooding with new figures like G I joe or Star Wars.

I'm certain someone here knows what's what... any help?

Turkish is talking about one of the japanese exclusive releases spawned from the Japanese OVA cartoon. The turtles had the ability to combine their powers to become The turtle saint for a short period of time. Basically a silver super hero with wings. Also exclusive to that line was the Dark Devil Shredder.
The US release "Metal Mutants" and the "Super Turtles" were also originally Japanese releases from that same line.

I just got my carded Warrior Metalhead Michaelangelo and uncarded-but-still-came-with-card Robotic Foot Soldier today, and noticed some bizarre things about the card backs.
With Warrior Metalhead Michaelangelo (W.M.M. for short), It shows a completely different coloured W.M.M on the back, kind of a silver-ish with lime green arms. Furthermore, standard Metalhead is listed as "Metalhead Michaelangelo" (without the warrior part). Also, there are a number of figures presented that I know for a fact were never released - Demolition Specialist Donatello, Convert Specialist Raphael (who looks exactly like Raph, the Green Teen Beret from the photo), Communications Specialist Leonardo, Submergence Specialist Michelangelo, Warrior Rahzar with Fur, and Warrior Rocksteady. Furthermore, there is a repainted Robotic Bebop that is named Warrior Bebop. Was Warrior Bebop not the Warriors of the Forgotten Sewer figure? And finally, Sergeant Bananas is listed as a villain.
With Robotic Foot Soldier's card, the front looks exactly like W.M.M.'s in design (the last, if I recall correctly, basic card design, with Don swinging from a rope on top-left, Leo climbing the wall below him, Mike below Leo swinging his nunchaku on the ground, and Raph on the sewer ladder on the top-right). However, the flip side, except for the bottom third, looks exactly like the old 10-backs.
I'm pretty sure this is all common knowledge to most of you, but this is all news to me.

Helps quite a bit.
I confused myself with the Warrior Rocksteady never having been released thing... I saw a list at one point and it had said Warrior Bebop was unreleased, and I thought to myself "They must have meant Rocksteady, since Warrior Bebop was released! I have one on my shelf (The Warriors of the Forgotten Sewer version). Why they'd want to release two completely different figures with the same name is beyond me.
W.M.M's card is still mind-boggling, aside from the unreleased figures, in aspect of the blatant errors. Metalhead mislabeled as Metalhead Michaelangelo? Sergeant Bananas working for the Foot? Bizarreness abounds....
I think I might have the final release of Robotic Foot Soldier. Final copyright date is 1998, the portrait card is huge, just like the old 10-backs, and it has the Turtles' origin at the top, as well as the original 10-back figures listed. It's a shame it wasn't still on card, but I can't complain, seeing as how was basically a freebie with W.M.M., and now I have something to add to my newfound army-builder kick.
One more question: I thought the TMNT was called Hero Turtles throughout all of Europe, but I have a Movie Star Splinter (referred to just as "Splinter" on the card and soforth) that is bilingual, I think it's in English and French. It has Playmates and Ideal logos on it, and the two Turtles logos call it "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" and "Tortues Ninja". I did a double take when I saw the "Ninja" part, because I thought all references to "Ninja" was supposed to be removed over there... that, and it's a bit redundant, I think, to have both "Hero" and "Ninja" on the card.

I did a double take when I saw the "Ninja" part, because I thought all references to "Ninja" was supposed to be removed over there... that, and it's a bit redundant, I think, to have both "Hero" and "Ninja" on the card.
Yes, the turtles were called "Hero Turtles" in Europe, but some countries (like France) liked to translate everything so they translated the series title too. In Belgium, people speak Dutch, French (and to a lesser extent Germain) so on a lot of products you buy here, it's mostly in French and Dutch.

What title was that then? I'm afraid I only remember the English title and the French one.
Nowadays it's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Yeah it's hard to tell that sort of thing with those and the re-released vehicles from that time period, unlike the figures they didn't really do much to change the box design.

The KB toys rerelease has a green warning label on the front.
$35 shipped sounds like a good deal for the original.
So you decided to open it after realizing the tape was cut ?
I don't mind. And have removed yellowed tape myself off the boxs.
I wont open them if their sealed with nice tape but when their not I view the contents.
You never know with the sealed ones whats even inside.

It's nasty, but kind of funny

The post is a refence to a scam artist from ebay that used to ship dirty clothes, human feces, trash and other misc things instead of promised items that bidder won.
He was finally caught and arrested.
I forgot about the story until Robhp03 post reminded me of it.

Finally got my mitts on a Mutatin' Bebop (I'm actually looking for a second one so I can repaint the human form to be correct). When it came in the mail, his sweatshirt, which appears white in every photo I've seen, has a slight maroon-ish tint. Is this normal?

It's light purple.

Hey, I should do that with my extra!
By the way, did Playmates ever give a reason for the skin color adjustment? I'd be amused if it was to avoid attracting controversy and allegations of racism.

Well, it's not only that, but he's got orange hair in his human form, and purple in his mutation! What's up with that?

I always wondered about that, myself. Even as a child, I remember asking myself, "Why is his skin color different?"
Maybe they wanted an excuse to change his hands, too? Since otherwise, I think his hands would look the same mutated or not (unless they decided to use a different shade of brown for his human form).
But, I think just contrast might have been the reason. Which might also explain the orange hair. Whatever, it's not like Playmates is notorious for inaccuracies or anything.

Lately I've gotten two MOC figures with insects in them. Those old figures has the bottom part of the bubble unglued, I think that's why those little monsters could enter (and DIEEEE).
About Bebop's skin color, I've always had in my mind that the toymakers were afraid that if the figure's hands didn't during the transformation, it would appear that they would be saying that a black man's hand is the same as a boar's.

Well, for one thing, they could have used different skin tones. Bebop's flesh colour in his original figure is lighter than his Mutatin' version in warthog mode. They could have used a darker brown-ish for human, and the lighter one, ala his first figure, for the mutation. Second of all, post-mutation Bebop has three fingers and a thumb. And - this is something that I noticed last night that is bizarre - his brass knuckles change hands during mutation. It's the same thing with Mutatin' Rocksteady's hand wrap.
Oh, and I forgot to mention prior, that his shades change from blue (human) to purple (mutant).

Mutatin' Splinter's fist and relaxed hand also alternate when he mutates:
