JC Penny's has an 'exclusive' Turtle Lair listed on their site an in their catalog. The description seems to indicate that their version still has the electronics. Has anyone actually ordered one?

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH K

Here we go again. If there is gonna be these crazy variants I'm gonna take a gun to my head then(j/k). I don't need a $60.00 variant out there so lets see what we are dealing with.....

Now, my Playset is at home. I cannot see if there are electronics now or not. Anyone know by looking at theirs? Also, it says it comes with Leonardo and Shredder AND cycle. If they are all packaged together, we have another variant on our hands. If they are not and are some sort of deal, then I think were ok. Anyone have anymore info on this...TMNGal possibly?

Can anyone get pictures of that those new variant TMNT figures too?

(sorry about the double post)

Anywho, I just called the JCPenny's (about 6 of them within a 100 mile radius) and not one of them carry any Ninja Turtles action figures of any kind. Now this coul dbe an online deal where there is no variants. Does anyone know how t contact their online department or maybe even Playmates Toys to see if a variant was produced or is it just a bundle? I hate ordering online, you never know if you gonna a get a dented box or something. They don't refund for that. Anyone have an ideas?

I'm also guessing this is an online deal. I contacted their customer service department via email, I should be receiving a reply soon. I'll phone my local JC stores tomorrow, maybe they have some info about it.

Still haven't heard a reply from JCPenney. I'll keep trying.

Being the insane person that I am, I actually ordered one of these on Tuesday. In part I wanted to see if it really was a variation, and if it wasn't, that was all right because I figured I would then have the MIB copy that I have been olding off on buying. Sadly I struck out on both of those objectives. JC Penny's set is basicly just a package variation.

First of all, MIB collectors avoid this like a plague unless you really have money to burn. It come in a plain white box. The only markings on it at all are the require choking hazard warning, the stock number (54120) and Playmates' information. So as an addition to a MIB collection it is a $60 plain white box.

If you are looking for a variation on the Turtle lair, you'll be disappointed. This is the same lair as the regular release. There are no electronics in it. It is possible that there may be some slight color differences. I haven't assembled it so I can't cmpare it. I did inspect the entire contents and there are no electronics included.

For those who just want the Lair, this is a good deal, to a point. The set includes the lair, the Shell cycle and Leonardo and Shredder (though I didn't see their weapons). At regular retail that would be around $72 to $80 depending on the location and if they happen to be on sale. At the original price of $79.99 You'd actually be paying a premium for the privilage of buying it and you'ld still have to pay the shipping which was $8. At the clearance price of $49.99 it isn't such a bad deal as long as you are actually looking for all four items.

False advertising. Someone should sue! Or atleast call JC Penney and ask where the electronics are. That pisses me off. Grrr.So really its only a thirty dollar sewer lair. cycle=10 2 figures=10 grrr

I wouldn't go that far. In fact, I suspect that the blame truely lies with Playmates. The playset was originally solicited as including the electronics. JC Penny probably wrote the catalog/web write-up prior to the decision to pull the electronics and it was never changed. There are two likely explainations to why this is. The first would be that JC Penny simply screwed up upon notifacation of the change. More likely is that there was no offical notification from Playmates that the electronics had been scrapped. Or it may also be the case that if they notify stores that the electronics had been scrapped from the regular lair but the connection was never made that that would also affect JC Penny's combo since it would have been considered a seperate product.

Also, the lair itself retails for $50 on its own. So at the clearance price, the JC Penny combo isn't such a bad deal, if you want all four items.

tmntman,

Think you can post some photos? Was everything (Playset, Cycle, & 2 Figures) packed inside the plain white box? I'm guessing the 2 Figures were packed in baggies since they didn't come with weapons. Is that right? How was this set mailed to you? Was it shipped inside another box or did they just slap the shipping labels on the white box? Thanks for the info. I'm gonna want this set afterall.

Everything was just packed into the one box and yes, they did use it as the shipping box, no other packaging. The figures are actually just twist tied to a piece of cardboard which was then folded over into a triangle shape to protect them. I can post some pictures but they are going to be really dull. (It is just a plain white box afterall.) I will try to compare it to the regular release and post pictures of any differences.

Well, I'm not sure this is a true variant licened by Playmates. I thnk just JCPenny put it together. So far, there are no electronics involved in this. I dunno if this can be considered a variant. Any store can do that....

Well, this is obviously a variant from Playmates as it even has it's own product number from Playmates. But this is little more than a packaging variation like the figure 3 packs or the figures now having the weapons in hand.
