Since no one started this I may as well since it is supposed to be released today! Sticky this please if you can. So just discuss about the new story by dreamwave and how good it may or may not be. Just an all out discussion of DW Issue 5. I will post what I thought about it later today when I actually get the comic.

Great issue! I didn't care too muc for the story, but as always the art was amazing! The best part (IMO) was the T4 Turtlenator ad. I can't wait to see the evil turtle bot in the comic! I have a feeling it's going to be next issue because the ad shows Leo, and shows the mousers eating Leo's katanas, and in the letters section it said that issue # 6 is going to be centered around Leo. End rant.....

I thought the story was good had to start off with Raph wanting to be out of the shadows. And yes the art was amazing. Very nice LeSean. And yeah T4 that was great! And about the game being released on same day. My part of Canada didn't get it yet.....we get it on Thursday which is tommorow. :(

i thought the lesson behind the story was really good but pretty sad as well. i just have to say great job on the comic. it looks great.

I didn't like the story much. Pretty weak. I did like Lesean's art as usual though.
I too am very psyched for the "T4"! What an awesome add that was.

The story may be weak, but atleast the artwork is good! I also liked that T4 ad. BTW, was it just me or did Splinter seem like a figment of Raph's imagination?

I finally get this, and I read it. Great art indeed!
And... I don't see why everyone is saying the story sucks. I thought
it was a funny portrayal of the "worse case scenario" as to why the
Turtles shouldn't be showing themselves to everyone on the streets.
I thought the initial conversation between the mother and the shrink
was rather funny. Or disturbing. Depending on the frame of mind you
have while reading those panels. ;]
"Long hard metal prongs? Interesting..."
:P
...nice Terminator centerfold though!

This is the 1st one I found in the UK so I bought it straight away seeing that it was all about Raph. I quite liked the story, nice example of what happens. I found it funny how Raph has an idea of what Splinter would be saying (his rationality you could say) but he still can't help himself and has to get involved. My only gripe was how the story quickly rushed through things, first there's the cat then Raph thinks the mum beats her child then she gets taken away then Raph meets the psychiatrist and then he's trying to shoot people and then Raph beats him up and all is forgotten
But overall I liked it, the artwork is fantastic and I will definitely be getting the next one

I thought the story was good, as a pseudo "what if" type of situation. Action doesn't make a comic. Great art as always as well.

10-24-2003, 02:35 PM
actually I really liked the story. I thought that it did seem a bit rushed at first but overall I really enjoyed it. I would have liked for them to go a little more indepth to this sort of thing. I mean it can't be easy having to live in the shadows your whole life.

Yeah, the thing with the shrink was rushed, and the way he was shooting at people? from the roof was really odd, but other than that, I thought it was good. The story didn't have any loose ends or silly reasonings that go against TMNT lore.

Whats up with all the negativety? This issue wasn't boring at all, it was really darn good! I guess people didn't like it because it didn't revolve around fighting: there's more to a good story that fighting folks!
I think this issue cointained a genius idea: a shrink who has spent his whole life telling people that strange creatures don't exist is actually confronted by a strange creature and then automatically snaps, thinking that all of the crazy people he's met were all right!
We finally see the story from a turtles point of view, Raph's. I woinder if Leo will narrarate the next ish, since they say he takes center stage in issue #6.
And of course some great writing and awesome artwork, I think this is Lesean's best work yet!
So Evil Turtlebot will be in the comic, I guess I'll just have to get his action figure now :D And who drew that T4 poster, it was frickin' awesome looking and is obviously wasn't Lesean style.
Also: SPLINTER! We hadn't seen him in this book yet, I really like how Lesean draws him.

Splinter's not really there it's what Raph would imagine (or remember) him saying. It's funny when you see Splinter say 'whatever!' could just imagine that now :D

Actually, I'm wondering...
I know Raph was just imagining Splinter the first time we see him... but was he imagining him again too at the end? Splinter seeemd more 'real' there. :-?

yeah, I saw that Splinter seemed kinda cloudy in the first one, but very sharp in the second one... hmm...
yup, i think at the end it's actually Splinter, enforcing the lesson

*clears thraot, squints real hard at monitor* ...no, I don't bring my comics to work... :P
Splinter: You are beginning to develop ties to the outside world. You and your brothers. But you must NEVER forget who they are... and who you are.
Raph: How could I? We're never allowed to forget... we are ninja. We hide in shadow.
Splinter: No, my son, we do not HIDE within. We live in shadow. We are of it. It nurtures and protects us, as the sunlight does the surface walkers.
Raph: But... Master Splinter, don't you ever want something else, something MORE than that?
Splinter: Of course I don't, Raphael. *next frame* That's your job.
*Splinter walks away, to let Raph think about it.*

so expect intriging, thoughtful stories like these in the future from time to time...and the turtlenater promo...you'll just have to wait for issue #8 for that lovely arc with a special guest...and what a surprise from a speacial guest it is!

I have to say I really liked the issue. And I do like the idea of the turtles being fleshed out. They have been 15 years old with the same personalities for well over a decade. so it will be nice to see the charcters gain depth.
I really like the insight that was given for Raphael's personality and thought process in this one. As well as the conversation between Splinter and Raphael at the end.
Of course the art was incredible as always. and I can't wait until the next issue. and issue 8.. now my curiosity is all peaked n stuff. *hehs*

After my sister and I saw Scary Movie 3, it was only a little after 4 in the afternoon and we had time to spare before getting Mom from work. I drove over to a comic book store in San Marcos to pick up issue #5. The guy couldn't find it for me and I almost left when another guy followed me out and waved it to me! It was hiding behind some comics and was looked over. So, I got to sit and read it at Mom's work.
I thought it was great, too. Not a lot of action, but so what? I'm glad to see them going off on their own stories. I remember I kept saying to myself, "No, Raph! What are you doing?" every time he showed himself to someone! The interactions with the little girl were cute. Calling him "Raffle" Awww! The mom called him "Rifle" to the shrink and the guy thought he was carrying a rife! Too funny. Did anyone think the mom slapped her daughter when there was a distant *wap* sound? I did, and Raph did, too. Good thing it was just a fly she was trying to swap, I would hate to read about child abuse.
Oh, there was a picture of LeSean at the end of the issue. I showed it to Mom after reading it and said, "Mom, this is the guy I met at the San Diego Comic Con!" and she was like, "Oh, that's him? He's CUTE!" Hehe, yeah, I thought so, too.
And didn't the Turtlenator remind anyone of Cyborg Don at all, especially with the one robotic red glowing eye? One of the mousers looks like it's chewing on one of Mike's chucks, not Leo's katana. From the looks of it, though, they'll probably be feasting on more than just one weapon of theirs anyway. Can't wait to read it...and see it!

I'd like to know what the obsession is with having the guys beat people up every issue and that anything other than bloodshed is boring. Is this a guy thing? I like the emotional exploration stories that fill in details of character - there were a lot of those in the old comic series as well. Poor Raph. The stoyline may have jumped a little fast in places, but I liked the overall gist of the plot. I hope this sort of story gets done with all the characters.
Fear not, I'm sure there'll be plenty of gore with the Turtlenator story. :)
Hey LeSean - great work as always - I especially liked the art in this issue.

I don't see why everyone gets offensive because I said the comic had no action. I don't always want action. It takes much more than action to make a good story, but I personally thought the story was kinda weak and weak stories need to be made up for with action, which there was none to speak of. I have a feeling it will get better though. The first 4 issues were great and LeSean is just amazing, so it can only get better. I can't wait for the Turtlenator!
[edit: I just found the release for the TMNT TPB which is the week of November 19th. Which means no sign of #6 this or next week. My guess is it'll be coming out the week of Nov 26.]

Wow, that's pretty late for the issue, but I'll still look out for it. As for #5, I know there was hardly any action, but I thought it was still great. The TMNT are always considered action-packed thrills and such, so it's nice to see them in a calm, expressive manner at times, like we saw with Raph and the little girl. Guns didn't need to go off, explosions didn't have to occur to make it worth reading. Yes, it was weak as far as action went, but it was still a good issue. Had a lot of important points to it.

I finally got to read this ish yesterday, and I loved it!! I know it didn't have a lot of action going, but I think Peter David's really amazing when it comes to characterization. I liked how he explored the whole "live in the shadows" aspect of the TMNT. Raph, out of all the TMNT, seems to be the most bitter about having to hide from everyone. I'm glad he got to explore a little in this issue, and I thought it was hilarious how things got worse whenever he tried to fix them. And LeSean's art was incredible, as always. Can't wait for the next issue!

Yeah.. I guess DW is juggling around dates again, between the Capcom and TF issues they also put out. It used to be the second week of every month for TMNT.
But I also agree that I like how Peter Davis is taking the time to explore the psychological workings of the TMNT too, before rolling back into a round of action. It's like a way for himself and us the readers to get a grip on who is who.

i liked it. so what if there's no action, not every story is gonna be kicking people's butts all the time. the guys would probably prefer not to fight all the time.
