Let's send him well-wishes and prayers, if prayers are your thing.

From his daughter on FB:

"Dad update.
He had a heart attack as well as diabetic ketoacidosis. Hard to say which caused what. He will be here awhile. They need to get the DKA under control before they can treat the heart attack. Depending on results on Monday, when they do the cardiac catheterization, they will be able to determine how to treat the heart attack. We have to wait til they can get the DKA under control. Depending on what they find, they might just place him on meds, or he will possibly need a stent, or bypass heart surgery. I hope he doesn't need the surgery because it could be potentially dangerous. If an emergency arises between now and Monday they might have to do an emergency surgery.

Please keep him in your prayers that he will get through this."

This sounds pretty bad, certainly wish the best outcome for Mr. Farley.

Not the first time I’ve heard of a prominent comic book creative in this situation. Says a lot about how the industry treats them.

The nature of freelance work when you choose to pursue it - no long-term benefits or retirement, etc.

I read an interview with Greg Capullo once who recognized this. He used to tell younger artists to never draw digitally because they will need those pages later in life to sell to the aftermarket for financial support.

He hasn't really been a part of the industry in maybe 20 years. He had some indie comic projects he was working a little bit way on the side around 2019 like a Bioneers revival called "Recombatants" (for a while, with one of his daughters) but he never really got serious about it and I don't think any scripts got written or any pages ever even got drawn.

When we were still talking he was mostly super into doing an endless series of CGI SFX tests of things I'm not even sure for what. Like, airships and steampunk-like things. That was taking up most of his free time.

So this thread was originally posted in 2017...and we're now in 2026. Has this guy been in and out of the hospital begging for money for nearly a decade?

I don't think he was asking for any money with the original heart attack, just now for his latest issues. But I could be wrong.
