I get more of a sense that April is giving Donatello a lift, since he seems to be a relaxed position and she seems to be doing the driving.

Are the other turtles supposed to be flying through the air through their own power or are they just really good at jumping stylistically?

Yeah, them seem to jumping over that bridge, probably just for the poster though. I know I shouldn't pass judgement at this time but I don't think I like these turtles. To me this just looks like those TMNT shorts which Nick' released a while back.

I have a few problems with the designs and the setting and the overall direction they want to take it but that's OK, I want something different and I'm getting it, I'd rather not love it and be different than another "traditional" adaptation right after the 2012 show.
Random thoughts:

*Remember the controversy of the 2012 show when Mikey wasn't using nunchucks? I'm fine with the weapons change here since it's sort of a spin-off and reminds me of the cool different weapons they had in TNM

That's why I said pointy and not sharp, but in most incarnations they've been used as stabbing weapons in spite of the fact that they're not traditionally used that way.

The more I look at this, the less I see Samurai Jack, and the more I see The Gorrilaz. For all it's stylistic blockiness, Jack was beautiful and streamlined. This is far more brutal than that.

Theres nothing wrong with different races but what if suddenly they made biopic about bruce lee being caucasian or mike tyson being chinese.
This is not black woman and her facial features are caucasian, i know in later comics they had her changed but its just bizarre.

Can't say I like the animation style. They have the opportunity to do a 2D cartoon again and it looks pretty dull, very ceeerazy for the sake of it. Not terrible but very underwhelming.

Mirage April is in fact the most arguably Black April until this moment. She was based on a real person of mixed race.

I am not a fan of the designs at all. They look cool as fan art but I wouldn't want to watch a series that looks like this. The story and everything else might be great and I hope that it is, but based on just the look alone I am unenthusiastic.

I would imagine so, give people a chance to miss it rather than just keep redesigning one after the other.

1987 series (10 year run) -- first TV effort, nation-wide phenomenon

Next Mutation (1 year run) -- people were tired of turtles but they decided to "shake it up" and make unnecessary deviations; nobody cared and it died

[5 year break]

2003 series, Part I (we'll give it the first 5 years...) -- gets back to the basics, probably less of a phenomenon than '87 and '12 but definitely successful

2003 series, Part II AKA Fast Forward (the last 2 years) -- "shake it up" and make unnecessary deviations; the end was near

[2 year break]

2012 series (5 year run) -- get back to basics...a few unnecessary changes but still playing it straight... nationwide phenomenon 2nd only to '87 thus far

2018 series (...) -- "shake it up" and make unnecessary deviations....

Let history be our guide...

It looks to me like the world needs true TMNT in about 5-10 year increments, with about 4-6 year rests in between. Otherwise it suffers from every-other-syndrome. The owners don't like that rest, they want to keep the cash flowing, so they try and feed us more but we aren't hungry again yet...

I personally think they could have kept the 2012 series going a year or two longer, not sure why the rush to shut it down and move on. It kind of had some of its own microcosm of the pattern within itself...redesigning itself a few times for no really good reason except, I guess, to create new toys...but it never got too far off course at once.

It will be interesting to see if Nick falls into any type of pattern with TMNT shows. If I’m counting correctly it will only have been 10 months between ending 2012 and starting Rise. Could we see a new TMNT every five years with only a 10 month break between each series? Or even multiple shows airing at the same time?

The comparisons to Samurai Jack, remind of me of how the PD Turtles were compared to The Raid. Not a great start...

Eh, I'd be down with a "black Bruce Wayne" au. There'd be a lot to explore there.

Same with the new April. I think there's a lot more to examine in a black girl living in New York than a white girl. Not that this version would explore that side of her life very much, but I could see sprinkles of it.
And just because she's black, it doesn't mean every other version of her is changed forever. It's just this version, and some depictions in Mirage depending on the artist. Personally, even being white myself, I'd be content with her being any race. So long as she's not a drawing that's been brought to life in-canon. Or discovers she's half alien and nothing is really done with that except for giving her powers that her alien counterparts don't have.
So long as she's not stripped of her literal humanity, she could be Native American and I would be happy. I would welcome that with open arms. Mixed race Native/Black kinda pushes into paralleling a little too much with Elisa Maza from Gargoyles. As awesome as she was, it would be best not to give her a Mini Me with turtles.

While it is funny to assume the bat might be Casey Jones, I doubt it just a little bit. Now, he could be a ghost living in the bat if they're going with a "spirit realm" angle. Which...actually does sound interesting.

I really don't mind these designs. They look kind'a scrappy, but they're expressive and appealing to a degree. I don't like some of the details, and they may be a bit too flat - as in they don't have any volume - but that might not be a problem when they're in motion.

I don't have a huge problem with Splinter - he looks odd, but it's not a deal-breaker. They're hitting the cliche Japanese thing a bit too hard - like, I know he's a Japanese guy who turned into a rat in this version, but he's not from the pre-industrial era. Why does he have a hairstyle like he's in a friggin' Kurosawa film?

With Splinter confirmed Japanese I guess it's only a matter of time till we see Shredder. Even if he doesn't appear at the very start of the season I imagine we'll see him at the halfway point.

And she's kinda young. I'm kinda tired of the kiddie TMNT. She looks to be like 14-16 maybe? I don't know for sure. Maybe she's older? Who knows.

Her being black isn't the real problem with me... it is WHY she is black. It is being shoehorned into the TMNT fandom.

Oh well. I'll check out the series and see, but I have a great feeling I won't like it.

Shredder may appear in the beginning, only to be kicked out of the series early, like his Archie counterpart (who didn't return until the turtles had almost travelled halfway around the Earth).

While I prefer 2D as well, the CG in the 2012 series had plenty of expressions and emotive scenes. Only some of the background human pedestrians looked soulless, but they are obviously didn't put much work into them.
