How did you get back into the TMNT [Archive]

The reason I got back into the tmnt was when I was reading a issue of toyfare in sep 2002 and they said the turtle toys would be back alongside a new cartoon. They showed one of the cell drawing for raph and I like how he was cutting edge, muscular and looked like he could kick ass, he also had the brown pads which I always liked more because its a throwback to the movie and it is just more realistic. Then the next month I found this and the official site and I couldnt help but stare at the proto figs for the new line b/c they looked the exact way the cartoon cells were drawn. I stayed around the web site listening to the old school guys then I decided to join on the 1st of Dec. I had many cool discussions w/ the kats here and I read the preview of each of the characters for the cartoon and I was pshyced. Another reason I got back into the tmnt was because Collcting the line gave me a bit of nostalgia and I kinda felt like a kid again. Well anyways thats just my personal story on how I got back into the tmnt in the 2k3. How did you get back into it?

It was like two years ago when I found a leonardo magnet on my fridge and realized how cool the tmnt used to be...then I found a copy of the first movie and watched it. it brought back so many memories and I loved it. so i looked online and figured out they were making a new show. It was great, tmnt were coming back as soon as i started to like them again.

I read about TMNT coming back in a magazine and it caught my interest. I had also seen the toys. Then I watched the first new episode. I liked it a lot, but still not as much as the original.

I got back in when one day I was looking for my old figures, and decided to search online for pics of them, so then I can upon the TMNT's official site and after looking at almost EVERY toy ever made, I went to the TV section and saw an odd looking logo, clicked it and come to find out A NEW SHOW WAS STARTING IN FEBRUARY! I looked at character pics, and waited till the day they would return to ma life.

I was always into it until 3rd grade... where i thought i was too "cool" for everything...
I got back into it in 5th grade, then got out.
I got back into it in 7th grade, bt the video games and all other cool stuff.
Then i got almost everyone i know to remember the tmnt and also remember how cool the 80's was!

Between 1998-2001 was when TMNT seem to be old school.

I went to Blockbuster and when I found the first TMNT movie I deside to rent it. Note: I never seen the movie before I was too young when it came out in theaters. I watched it and liked it. Around 2002 I bought the other 2 sequal on video and it was my first time watching the sequals.

I did web searches on TMNt when I found the offical Website. I learned more about the TMNT. In Oct. 2002 news about a new TMNT coming in Feb. 2003. I started watching the new series and today I'm a more true TMNT fan then I was before.

So yep I'm going to be a supporter of TMNT for now on.

Pojo.com had a news piece on how there was gonna be a new TMNT 'toon, so I cracked out the old movies and realized that TMNT 1 wasn't really just for kids.

Found out there was a comic series that stared it all, redeucated my self about the turtles, and so on.

And i was WAY overexadgerating(sp?) it was only like 10 mins, because there was about 50 people (it was a a huge business) so it took about 10 mins... and i bet 1/2 the people were probably buying other DVDs they sold.

The only time I ever stopped thinking about the TMNT was in highschool when I started getting into The Simpsons. I got back into them about a month after I gratuated in 1999 when I started going online.

Ready for an essay?

Like whoever already said it, in truth I never really stopped being a TMNT fan, there was just a short period of "dormancy" for about 2-3 years. I call it that because even though I THOUGHT I'd lost interest in it, something always kept bringing me back to the games and other lost media. It was also during this time that I had the wildest idea ever...it was for a new TMNT video game called "TMNT 2000" (since it was around '98 or '99 when I thought this up), which only recently turned into a fanfic idea. What I have in mind is pretty earth-shattering in terms of story and outcome, but no spoilers yet as I still have yet to begin writing it. I just hope it's so good that someone will want to commit to making a CGI fan movie out of it, with my directorial supervision, that is ;)

I had gradually began to regain interest in TMNT starting around the middle to end of my junior year in high school (about a year and a half ago) when one of my friends informed me of the official site and the CGI pilot for the proposed show. You have no idea how many times I kept watching it over and over again! This was, of course, while I was still a bit ignorant of the original Mirage series, but I thought it was awesome nonetheless, and, to be honest, I thought it would blow the original cartoon away since it was more "mature" in its content.

Anybody who's been here for a while knows that during one time I planned on making a TMNT mod for DOOM 2 since a while before I joined the Technodrome. Before that project was aborted, I needed sound clips and a general idea for this mod to take ground. With the discovery of MAME and the TMNT arcade ROMs, the idea was taken care of, all that was left were the sound clips. This was also before I learned how to use my sound card to cap sound clips off episodes, so I had to depend on clips found online. During the search, I stumbled upon the sound clips page on this site, but was a bit dissatisfied with the quality of the clips (nobody can beat my 1337 capping 5|<i11z ;) ), but figured they had to make do for the time being.

Lo and behold, what do I notice on the side menu bar? A link to a forum! I decided to check it out and, after seeing the contents, decided to join. Usually I don't join forums since most of the time I won't end up posting due to lack of real interest, but this I knew I could keep coming back to since it was something I DEFINITELY had real interest in! The rest, as they say, is history on here ;)

All of the above in conjunction with discovering episodes on Kazaa (before I learned how to use IRC) and keeping up with TMNT news from the official site and other sources are what re-kindled my interest and passion for TMNT, and since discovering both the original and new Mirage comics, I have a much wider and better taste in it than I ever did before...you could say I'm MORE of a TMNT fan today than I was when I was 5, heh.

I lost interest in about 4th - 5th grade and never thought I would come back to them again. I got rid of all my toys :( and almost got rid of all my VHS, but ended up being too lazy to do so. But then about a year ago (freshman year) I got really bored and thought to myself 'Why not? It'll waste some time and bring back memories' so I spent maybe an hour searching on the internet and found the official site and a few others. Then didn't do anymore.

Then several months later, would have been about December, I did the same thing and realized that on the official site when it said TMNT 2003 that meant that it was coming out again - that got my interest. But then I moved onto other things.

Then, in Febuary, I suppose, after 2 or 3 of the eps and come out I decided to search again and managed to find a really cool site that got my interest for good - especially because I had access to the eps from that site :D So now I've been a fan ever since.

I never really fell out of it, I always read the few comics I had and would watch the movie every now and then, and I still play Turtles in Time to this day. After I first got the internet in 2000 I was bored one day and started doing searches on stuff that interested me, and I ended up at the official site and then Under Manhattan after that. Browsing the forums at UM was what made me realize that there were other people out there who were still big TMNT fans like I was, and I saw a few of them had taken to writing stories and fanfics of their own to deal with the "drought" of TMNT stuff. I had had a story in the back of my head for a while and decided to adapt it to a TMNT story, joined the UM forums to hype it up, and just hung around. Then I found out about the new TMNT coming out and that was pretty much what clinched it. I eventually landed here when UM shut down.

why did you abort the making btw?The graphics I ripped from the arcade ROMs were mostly incompatible with DOOM 2's color palette, although if I can figure out how to change it (and I KNOW it's possible now), the project will be reborn!

How'd I get back into it, I wouldn't say I ever got out of it. I was on hiatus until something cool came out again. I tried TNM...saw it once and wondered who was smokin the dope. so that put me back in hiatus....

The new series got me back into it, it's great. So I watched the movies over & over and over...etc. Well except for 3, just a few times. 1s the best. It reminds me of my fun high school days with me and my fellow weird friends. we were all immature, we ran around campus playing drwho and talked TMNT, transformers, trek and other cool junk. (i still know my buds too...we're all still weird but real life's caught up)

And just like way back in '90...I STILL LOVE RAPHIE! hahahahahaaaaa
and about died when I saw Josh Pais was on TREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (he was a ferengi with Raph's voice, that's was scary)

I never really lost interest, but when I decided that art was what I wanted to do with my life, I remembered how much the TMNT had inspired me to draw when I was younger. I started drawing a few pictures of them (along with lots of other stuff), and rediscovered all my old toys. I started reading a few of my old comics and I watched the 1st movie for the first time in a while. This was about 3 years ago, and when I was searching the net last year for information on the old toys and tmnt art, i found out about the new show and toys. I also stumbled upon this site, and here I am now :D

BTW, Rez your fanfic sounds awsome, can't wait to read it. I'm starting to write my own too, It's incorporating the Mutanimals and a very different shredder. It's gonna take a while, but I'll post it (and some artwork) when I'm done.

I always loved the TMNT, but I got into the fandom a little over a year ago. I lurked on the NTML for 6 months or so, and then, somehow I found the 'drome through someone's fansite, and the rest is history.

I lost interest real quick it seems when I was nine, I had over sixty figures and some vehicles and sold them all off. I miss the technodrome and alot of those figures :cry:

I guess I got back into them when I found my original Raphael. It had been the first figure I'd gotten and he hadn't gotten sold because I'd left him at my grandparents house (lost him). There he was about 2 years later in the toy box for my younger cousins. Quickly snagged him, even though he was beltless and weaponless. I stashed him away with my other remaining Turtle I had kept for personal reasons. I played with Raphael and the other remaining figures off and on, didn't get back into the Turtles until about four or five years back when I started buying back all the old figures from the 80's. I'm not as big a Turtle addict as before, but I still think they're the best! :D

I have to say I kinda lost interest whenever it was that they weren't on TV. After the old cartoon ended, then after TNM (which I always hurried home to watch :P ) I kinda got into other things, mostly Disney's Gargoyles.

In late 2000, I was searching for Gargoyles fan fiction when I came across FF.net, and their listing for TMNT. I was like, "I remember them..." and after a few stories I was hooked. (Remember, this was way back before the "story a day" writers took over the section.)

Searched for more stuff, found the official site, several fan sites, and everything. Signed up here... whenever that date under my name says. Signed up for a couple mailing lists and was officially part of the "fandom", something I'd never done with any other interest.

And now with the new show, I think I'm stuck here. :D

I got back into the turtles again last year when I started to seriously build my action figure collections. In addition to my Star Wars and other collections I decided to collect the loose vintage TMNT Figures.

I didn't buy them back in the late 80's/early 90's because by the time the cartoon came out, I was no longer interested in collecting action figures. I still hit myself over the head on that one - I could have gotten TMNT , G.I. Joe and Star Wars Figures for a steal on clearance back then.

I enjoyed the cartoon and both movies, but it wasn't until the late 90's that I started to sporatically picking up action figures again. Then last year, I went all out and purchased several large lots of action figures on Ebay and have been seriously collecting ever since.

I got back into turtles like mid-H.S. years. I was a sophmore, and it was 1996. I noticed the orig. toon was on USA one day during Spring Break in 1996 when I went to visit my grandma. After I got home, I started watching and recording the show on tv in the mornings. Then I started watching TNM when it came on in 1997. I also started getting some comics and more figures. I started searching the internet for TMNT while at my friend's house, and discovered the Offical TMNT site, along with many other fansites, and an entire TMNT Online community I never knew about! Then I eventually joined the NTML in 1999, while I was a Freshman in college, and before I owned my own computer. And then last year I joined this forum and Mikey's forum. And now, the present with the new FB TMNT! I kinda forgot about TMNT for a few years tho cuz I was heavily into Batman: TAS. Still love both alot tho!

I really don't think I ever lost interest in the TMNT, really. At least not like I had with the shows from the 80's, like the Transformers.

I did fade away between 1994-1996, cause the Mirage comics and the cartoons fizzled out, and collage really kept me busy. But after I graduated, I noticed this Image comic kicking around. Then I started talking to some fans in the Letters section, and found my way into the online TMNT community. Haven't lost touch ever since! :D

It only said "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TPB 1-7", and after some "detective work" on the net, I learned what was reprinted in them :)

Although I can't remember exactly what year, or how old I was when I lost interests in the Turtles. It's not like I totally forgot about them, they were a big part of my childhood, so they were always in my heart. But my dad, when I got to a certain age, sat down, and decided for me what I was or wasn't too old for. He thought I was too old for the Turtles, so the things I didn't have already in storage, were either thrown away or sold.

After that, when I would go rent movies, I would pass by the kid section, and smile when I saw their faces on their old VHS. But I didn't get back into them til about maybe 4 months ago.

I was sitting in my "Entreprenuership" class, being bored as usual, when all of a sudden, this one guy starts humming the old theme song. I immediately recognized it, although it wouldn't fully process in my head. So, for that moment, they were in my mind. Then, two hours later, in my next class, a guy behind me was drawing pics from the old series "and it was an awesome picture." And from that moment on, I decided to look them up, for old time sake.

I went to a magazine store like two months after that, (after searching through our storage trying to find my old Turtles stuff I had in storage), and saw Leonardo on the cover of a game magazine. I loved how fresh and bolder they looked, so I picked it up, read the article and all and found out they had a new cartoon series. And the rest is history.

I have done a little "memory lane" type deal. I rented as many of the old series as I could, and watched them, immediately rememebering the cartoon and my feelings towards it. And I also purchased the 3 movies on DVD and got hooked, like old times.

Nowadays, since my old Turtles collection got trashed (yes, even the stuff I had in storage), I have been trying to recollect the old items, along with the new. I'm doing this for my kids. Because I'm the type of person that wants to give something to my kids, that I loved and enjoyed, and I feel they're going to love and enjoy the Turtles almost as much as I did. But also, the big reason why I've gotten into the Turtles again is for the art and plots and all that I missed when I was younger. I love to color, I hope to become a colorist and a writer, so something like the Turtles, could give me a fresh and promising career. At least, that's what I wish, I would love to work for Peter and Kevin!

So that's my story. Sry for my essay, and sry if you guys keep reading about my old collections and all. Funny thing also, my father almost told me off for getting into the Turtles again the other day. I guess he'll never change. LOL, later everyone!

TMNT 2003. When I first saw a new turtles show on tv, I realized that it was something worth watching and worth getting back into turtle fandom for. In fact, I'd venture to say that a lot of the old school fans would have been drawn back to the TMNT idea even sooner, had New Mutation not failed so miserably. That show actually repulsed people from TMNT.

As a child I had no interest in The Turtles. I lived in a block of flats and my friends were crazy about the old show. The only episodes I saw was Leonardo is Missing, Adventures in Turtle-Sitting and Adventures of Rhino-Man. Though I have recently rented A Thing About Rats and Hot Rodding Teenagers From Dimension X. Months ago I woke up to find Things Change on the TV, at first I thought it was the old series, but I remembered the animation looked different. After that I was hooked on TMNT.

Just about 2 years ago, going through some old comics, I came across a Usagi Yojimbo trade I had layin around. I said "this isnt really all that bad" and one long night on the internet looking stuff up on our fav rabbit, I decided to look up TMNT news as well.
This was when rumors were beginning to grow about the CGI film. I came across fan sites and joined the TMNT news group, so I would make sure I wouldnt miss any "return of the turtles!"

I helped mass e-mail petitions to get the turtles on the air, and behold, 5-6 months later, ninjaturtles.com announced fox box picked up the licencing! :o Maybe we had something to do with it? Maybe its just a fluke? Either way, i'm glad their back, and rockin!

I can't ever remember a time when I didn't like the Ninja Turtles; namely, the old cartoon. I would get up bright and early every morning to record it on cassette tapes with my Fisher Price recorder. I can still recall when it was 1) on the FOX network; and 2) on the USA network. CBS carried all the new episodes for a one-hour block on Saturday mornings, which I remember thinking were very special since I almost always had to miss them due to piano lessons.

Not that I am dissing piano. It's just that my sister and I only had lessons once a week, and what time did our teacher schedule us? 9:00 AM every Saturday, the exact time the new episodes of the old cartoon were on. If I was lucky, we'd get out of lessons a few minutes early, rush home, and catch maybe the last 30 seconds of the newest episode.

But anyway. Got a little off the subject there . . .

I never really lost interest in the Turtles. They've always been with me, and no matter what happens, they'll always be with me. But there was a period of, perhaps, a year or so (pretty much the entire 1993 season now that I look back on it) when the Turtles were absent from my life. No reason why, to be honest; they just kind of disappeared for a while.

But then one Saturday morning (when the show was bumped up an hour to 10:00 AM) I caught one of the episodes from the 1994 season and was hooked again. I remember how startled I was, thinking, "Is this the Ninja Turtles cartoon?" April looked totally different, she was driving a sleek red car, the sky was constantly dark . . .

And the rest, as they say, is history. I continued to watch through the Star Trek-like Season 9, and the Welcome Back to Earth-like Season 10. And then I bought up as many of the Family Home Entertainment videos that were produced during the show's run as I could and relived my favorite cartoon all over again.

Now my only gripe is the whole DVD thing. I know, I know; we've beaten that horse to death so many times there's nothing left. But seriously. Would it kill Artisan to give the fans what they really want?

TMNT 2003 gets a DVD release less than a year after it debuts.

TMNT 1987-1996? Yeah, you get my point.

Almost as long as I can remember, I have loved the TMNT. Perhaps it was fated so that we were born in the same state in the same year (well... I was born about six months after the comic book came out :P). I watched them at first because my best friend at the time Nick watched them... and then WHAM! I was struck with nunchucks upside the head. To quote said turtle: "I"m in looooooooove!" I didn't even LIKE pizza until I got into the turtles (and now I can't get out of it. I looooove pizza!) :thyper:
When I was younger, all I had were two Michaelangelo figures for my turtle craze, my parents trying to encourage me to play with My Little Ponies (worked, moderately) or Barbies (which I ruined three microwaves with).
Even when I was in second grade (1992-93), I was absalutely convinced the TMNT were real. After all, they had a music thing out from Pizza Hut and they were in movies, right? Right.
Then for a while, it was dormant. My brother gave away my Michaelangelos in exchange for some WWF figures.
Then, sometime in the last three years, we discovered, in a box of old movies that we no longer watched thanks to cable TV... a video tape.
With turtles on it.
That being TMNT: The Movie.
So we watched it... and I realized what a dufus I was for not liking the turtles for so long. I MISSED them. Suddenly I wrote fan fictions about them. They took up that place that was left when I stopped watching Gargoyles and Gundam Wing. I looked up the TMNT online... and came across a website. Not this one, yet, but it was interesting. a TMNT Role-Playing game. I applied, and joined using a version of my fan-fiction character, the Ali Kat. Soon it moved on to other such creatures as the mutant jackal Nefersitanubis, the whiney teenage mutant ninja spitz Kameko, and the evil juggling panda Ting Ting.
And now... my older sister says my room looks like a 10-year-old boy's from 1989, with all the TMNT stuff I have. I have figures like the Wolfman Leonardo hanging from my rafters while the new figures are tacked to my wall with their various instruments of travel. I have comic books and fan art and pictures off the net with TMNT in it, shirts... and with the new cartoon, it gives me a reason to get up on Saturday mornings again (which I hadn't done since Sonic the Hedgehog went off the air on ABC). Then, a friend on the TMNT MUSH introduced me to the wonderful world of the Technadrome.

When it comes to TMNT, you dive in and you never, EVER look back. :)

God, I love being a Turtle Fan.

I held onto the Turtles and Ghostbusters until '92. I was 8 or 9 at the time. I got back into the TMNT when I noticed Mirage's TMNT Vol. 4 comic books. I was 4 months late for the first issue and it was completely sold out. I went to a really cool collector's store here in Milwaukee and found the second issue in Vol. 4 for $5. Then, underneath glass, I found an old TMNT issue spin-off of Raphael. It's magazine sized and sign by Eastman. I got that for $10.

I was going to sell it on ebay since the TMNT merchandise was beginning to become hot items. I decided against it after I watched the movie and realized how great the TMNT were and how much I loved them. While the TMNT hype escalated, somebody was already making plans for a new cartoon. I found out all I could about the new cartoon. After the first episode I watched an old episode [...] Now I'm absolutely obsessed. I have opened and un-opened versions of every new toy. This new cartoon kills all others, now I have to rest so I can see the conclusion to "Turtles in Space" this morning.

I never stopped liking the Turtles either, just briefly stepped into other interests between 1994 and 1997. The thing that kept me interested in that period was the Archie comics, and I read and gathered every single issue without stopping! I became a stronger, more dedicated fan after hearing about Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation and watching that series. I know a lot of people on here don't like that show, but without it, I probably wouldn't be where I am today. ;)

I guess I never really left TMNT, per say. I just moved onto interests. :P

I suppose what got me back into TMNT was when I found out there was a new cartoon. I faintly remembered watching the old cartoon, and both me and my b/f were crazy when we heard there was a new one. Now I tape them, and he comes over to watch the new episode every week. 8)

wow i think i got back to tmnt when my class was going to write about things or toys you got when you were little.

and then i just start writing on about all the tmnt toys and comics ive got back then when i was a little one.
and i seached on the internet about turtles and then i found the official internet site and i have never see it before and i found it very interesting and i just couldent get my eyes away from that site.

and after a couple of days i saw that turtles is back with another attack.

and then i had nothing to draw a picture of and i was like damn man this is cool so i went on to this and the offical website and i was like this is sick and thats how i got back into dem. :D

the way I got back into turtles was when I was babysitting these little kids. some how we got to the topic of pet turtles and I said something about the TMNT... they had no clue who the turtles were. so I started looking stuff up and it went from there.

That'd be right, most Classic Turtle fans are now 20 years old.

they had no clue who the turtles wereEh, the young whippersnappers...they don't know what the REAL good kid stuff was, they're being raised on stuff like "Spongebob Squarepants" and "Power Rangers" and...well, you get the idea.

My brother saw the new figures in Toys R Us and he wanted to see the cartoon and we both saw the cartoon and we both got hooked again. My little brother even made me dig out all of my original toys. ;)

I've been devoted to the Turtles for a long time, albeit a bit dormant, I would check the official TMNT site from time to time, lost some interest in the old cartoon, but still bought comics occasionally as well as played with the figures, eventually I watched the TNM, and lost interest, but played with the figures etc. Checked the site from time to time, then stumbled across Mikey's TMNT site which was decent and fan friendly, and decided to devote myself a bit more to the turtles, then a new show was announced etc....

My adventures with the turtles has been a long strange ride that has never stopped but has taken detours from time to time.
