Total original cartoon creation. The only dimensional portal type deal from the origianal comics would be the one from the Donatello one shot. The one that the episode 'The King' was based on. :)

Dimension X is basically a seperate galaxy from Earth in the cartoon, but in the Archie comics, it only takes a matter of hours to get there in a spaceship going at the speed of light.

It only appeared in Archie Comics. Never in Mirage, so it will never (likely) appear in the new toon.

It definately added an extra "dimension" to the show (yes, the pun is very intentional). It is a good concept in itself, plus a breeding ground for many good ideas.

Were there other Dimensions as well? I know of one I think. The Fantasy Land Dimension with Hokum the Hare.
