View Full Version : Origami Foot Ninja, better or worse than Robotic Foot Ninja?

Alright, is it a better idea or not? I'd still prefer humans, but at least I guess it's more fitting than the stupid robots...

The use of robots gets a bit stale, but I can't say that I find the concept of magic paper any more interesting. Zzzz.
It's almost less impactful really if they're just bemagicked origami created on the fly. It doesn't really matter if the Turtles destroy them then as more can just be made in that fight or later.
At least destroying quite a few robots should have impacted Shredder's actual forces and mattered. (Even if the original series never quite acted like it did, at least not often.)

Gotta agree with this.
Robot Foot soldiers are boring and were only ever a Saturday morning cartoon copout so the kiddie Turtles could use their weapons. :trolleye:
Origami Foot will serve the same purpose, but it's at least something more interesting.
I prefer humans. I like robot foot too but when used correctly, I got bored of the robot foot in 2012 and wish they hadn't completely replaced the human ones.
Origan ninjas are awesome too, it's a nice change to keep things interesting and new. The best thing about robot/paper foot ninjas is you know they can slice them up all they want.

Think about the Mirage stories where we got to meet some Foot guys. Got to get in their heads. Flesh and blood, real living and breathing ninjas stalking and trying to kill the Turtles... that's interesting.
Robots? What's that? There's nothing there. Not at all.

Or even just getting to see the Turtles murdering their enemies. And realizing... um, this isn't heroic. This is clan warfare. Damn. Splinter is kind of an asshole for raising kids to carry on his blood feud.
But no, robots getting blowed the heck up for Saturday morning ratings? Sure, why not. Sell dem toys.

Not really with the exception of that one issue where we follow the perspective of a foot ninja, the foot grunts are no different from robots. Most of them are just fodders for the turtles have to defeat.

Paper isn't appealing to me but as someone else pointed out, may suit this show.
Give me humans overall but so far as the turtles getting to slice something on a kids show then you can have the others, just not the whole clan maybe.

If Shredder is angry as his paper ninjas and goes to destroy some of them in a fit of rage, which Shredder do they face? Does he do it himself, or throw them in the mechanical one sitting in his office? :tlol:

I think Orgami works better for this show. The new TMNT cartoon series has a more mystical bent in it's themes, we will have foot soldiers who are basically golems made of paper, whom the turtles can freely hack, cut, and slash their way through, decapitating and maiming endless numbers of the foot, without having actual people die.
Like the robot foot soldiers before them, some people hate this idea. They claim it 'censors' the turtle's violence, but it makes things more interesting, I think
Think about it... we all love seeing the turtles take on giant swarms of foot ninja, ridiculous numbers of these guys that get cut down during a total fight, only to have large numbers of foot ninja re-spawn later in the movie, seemingly out of nowhere. I don't think an elite ninja clan is goign to allow large numbers of New Yorkers to join. That's why I think the origami ninja could be a BRILLIANT IDEA; created through a mystical Kuji-kiri ninja 'spell' the origami ninja serve as the lowest rung cannon fodder, while the foot lieutenants and everyone higher up the foot's command structure are 'flesh and-blood' people. That way, it has more meaning when the turtles cut down a LIVING foot soldier, but you can still have the mook swarms.
This is at least, my take on non human foot ninjas, like robots and magical origami FOOT NINJAS. I think they have their place in TMNT, and can be an interesting story element, and not just censorship.

In story explanation for what? We know why they went with robot Foot in the Nick cartoon, they explain it.
As for Rise, we obviously won't know. Why are you asking questions about a show that hasn't aired yet?

I'm still not sure how much this is actually addressed when this is the case.
I do think paper fits the mood for this series better. And considering that Michelangelo is being depicted as more artistic than the others, his reaction to them would be something along the lines of

The Origami Foot Soldiers just seem like such an odd idea to me.
As the others have mentioned, robotic Foot Soldiers are okay, but kinda dated now since it's been done already, and the novelty of them has grown stale. Keep them as flesh & blood Foot Ninja. The first two live action movies had no problem with outfitting trained ninja in stretchy black body suits and masks.

There's nothing for you to "agree" with. They said it's a comedy driven show. There's gags/jokes in every bit of footage we've seen so far. If you don't find it funny, fine, but its genre is not up for debate. :tlol: We're talking about Rise, specifically, not the franchise overall. Not sure what you're trying to communicate here.

Rise is likely more comedy centric than the 2012 series was, and that was comedy focused too just mixed with action.
Overall though all the clips we've seen have shown plenty of fighting, so this is still a traditional action series.

Someone else might explain better but the Kraang basically supplied Shredder with robotic foot soldiers as a deadly weapon against the turtles, his human soldiers were diminishing in numbers, those who moved to NY (turtles taking them out) Have I missed anything, someone else?
Human soldiers came back when Karai started to take over the foot.

Technically they supplied Karai with robots, Shredder barely wanted anything to with the Kraang. He did however keep the robots and later on it seemed like he made them independantly of the Kraang. The Humans who worked for Karai later on were just mercenaries she hired.
... Yeah, I know...

Yeah, I meant it was to him they supplied the footbots but she did them use them. Yeah they were mercenaries later on but by the time 'The Foot Walks Again' came they were supposed to be the foot, rebuilt with soldiers from Japan?

You said you watched the entire Nick cartoon, it's brought up the first episode of Season 2 that Karai uses the Foot-bots. They also had declining members of humans wanting to become Foot after Chris Bradford was mutated and his school declined.

Kraang was making the robots for me and in return Baxter was giving them mousers. That was our deal. Later they showed Baxter how to make them and when i stopped working with the kraang it was him who was making them. I had much fewer robots than the 1987 series because i only wanted to kill the turtles and not conquer the world like i did in 1987 series. Kraang knew it and because of that they didnt gave me lot of powerful robots but only few and weak ones. I also had a big decline on humans want to train on nijitsu and then become Foot Ninjas because they learned that my enemies are not just humans but some mutant monsters. And they were afraid to fight mutants. If all of my enemies were just humans then i wouldnt have decline members.
In 2018 series i will have also humans and robots too not just magical ninjas.
Like in the 2003 where i had most of them humans but also had some robots(foot tech ninjas and foot mechs) and also foot mystics(untilt hey got free of my control). The same thing i will do again and have humans robots and mystic/magic foot ninjas all work for me at the same time

Safe to assume you don't have the Nicktoons channel then?
I will never understand Nick's treatment of that show after a bit, letting it air/premier all of ONCE on the regular channel before throwing it onto Nicktoons. Gee, no wonder some kids might lose interest and forget about if, to them, the show doesn't even appear to exist. You can't sell your product if you're going to hide it from your consumer. Maybe they'll treat this next crappier one with the respect that the better previous one actually deserved. :trolleye:

After now having a first ep with them... Eh, no better, no worse, but maybe a bit more boring. The concept is interesting at face value, but it isn't much of a fight if they're destroyed with one small strike.
Instead of intending them be some form of foot soldiers, it might have made more sense that they were created and used as a distraction against Turtles who have not learned to focus on the important things in front of them; let them play pinata while the bad guys do their work. But then that can only last so long until they catch on.

I don't care for the paper thing going on but it's something coming from a show that has the mystical element etc so, just where they wanted to go.
2012 had footbots as well as Kraang droids so the turtles could splice the foot too I imagine.

Still agree with my 2018 self, but the added fact that it, like many ideas in Rise, was rather wasted and uninteresting. The series just barely did anything with them and in the long run had little point in being a thing.

It's an interesting idea that I wouldn't mind seeing again in a future version, maybe in a comic. I suppose it's better than robot ninjas as a concept. Did they do anything more with them after the second episode?
