The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ greatest foe, the Shredder, is making his return and it all starts in the fires of hell.
From San Diego Comic-Con 2018, IDW Publishing has announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell, a new five-issue miniseries set to launch in early 2019. The series will be written and drawn by Mateus Santolouco, one of the defining artists of IDW’s ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and will serve as a sequel to the popular Secret History of the Foot Clan miniseries.
In Shredder in Hell, readers will follow Oroku Saki as he struggles to survive in the burning hellscape of the afterlife. On his journey, he will discover his true purpose as well as the truth about the powerful beings responsible for both the birth and the death of the world.

Wow! I'm very excited about this. I been waiting forever to see more about the Shredder's connection with the pantheon. I know Kitsune revealed the purpose of her interest with Shredder but I feel like there is more too it. I can't wait for this to come out.

Hell yeah, literally! This is exactly what I expected when the first rumblings of Santolouco's new project came out months ago, and IDW didn't disappoint! I'm becoming increasingly convinced that Shredder will be ultimately be the spanner in the works of Kitsune's plans.

Same. A follow-up to both Secret History of the Foot Clan and the Shredder issue from the Villains Micro-Series...

This reminds me that I need to make a "Seat belts to maximum buckling" gif because this is going to be an e x p e r i e n c e.
Should be cool to see how much of it connects to his mini...and if we'll get a return of that little imp that followed him around there.
On his journey, he will discover his true purpose as well as the truth about the powerful beings responsible for both the birth and the death of the world.
That is what I'm looking forward to the most out of all of this!

I'm not sure how a pool of blood and skulls with an octopus in it, reminds you of a blossoming cherry tree on a flowery field with stuffed animals marching. And honestly, I'm not sure I want to know.

Always found it funny villains can roam around hell, even though they were evil in real life and caused the suffering of countless people, and then instead of R.I.P. they're walking around Hell (although they're trapped there), like it's just another day in their life.

This is a pretty rad idea. Could’ve been a disaster if they picked other people to do it.

It will be interesting to see Santolouco’s skills in writing (I haven’t seen any examples, personally). If it’s as good as his art this series should be amazing.

I'm just glad that despite Universe ending we're still getting so many new specials and mini's outside the main ongoing.
We have this, the 4 Turtle 40 page specials, and a new Bebop/Rocksteady mini this August.

Does anyone have this panel filmed?

The Secret History of the Foot Clan is still probably the best miniseries IDW has given us. The characterization and illustration style of the Turtles is near perfect

I wonder if we'll see Null, her being a demon and all.
CyberCubed
07-20-2018, 03:06 PM
If they ever plan for Null to actually do anything in the series, she should be featured soon. She's probably the longest lasting subplot in the book. Her minions like Zodi and that new snake mutant for some focus, but not Null herself.
Joey Kamikaze
07-20-2018, 07:54 PM
On Null: I'm assuming that we'll get a Null & Maligna subplot after #100. That's also assuming #100 will be the climax of a Pantheon-focused story, which I think is likely.
Also, based on this, I suspect Shredder will be back in #100. And my guess has already been for a while that Shredder will ally with Clan Hamato against Kitsune by #100. Just putting it down here now so I can screenshot it later, lol. I have always assumed Oroku Saki would be back somehow when the Pantheon story came to a head. From the Shredder micro, I always figured he'd be back again some day even after #50.
Also, I was already excited for this when I heard about it. But it's specifically meant as a follow-up to Secret History of the Foot Clan, which may be my favorite TMNT story ever? **** YES.

Really psyched for this story. Even moreso after meeting Mateus at the con and getting a badass Shredheadsketch from him! :shredder:
Surprised there hasn’t been more discussion of the other macro details that were released at SDCC though (unless I missed it another thread?)... Eastman and Ben Bishop teaming up for the Raphael macro “in the spirit of Weapon X”!
bushido mentioned Sophie Campbell is doing story/art on the Leo macro which I might be the most excited of all to see. I think Bobby mentioned at a signing that we’d be heading back to Northampton for that one, and given that’s basically my backyard you could say those issues hit close to home for me. :twink:

I think it would just be an observation on how the "branches" of the afterlife work.
Right now, we don't really know where Yoshi and the boys (what a band name!) went between worlds.
Shen is kind of in the same vague purgatory as Darius, she's just made hers really fancy.
Krang is haunting Leatherhead (and I think Krang was being haunted by Quanin, because he basically abandoned him during Utrominion's last fall).
And Shredder is in Hell because he was apparently destined for it. Which...kinda sucks for him because it was more likely something Kitsune set him up over the years; It would be logical if his previous lives had gone through the same before being reborn. Which again...sucks for Shredder.

This is all starting to make me wonder if we're going to get any info about what Shen really is in this mini. She's just one big enigma at this point, at least for me. Isn't she just a regular woman? How does she have the abilities to contact her children from the afterlife? Sure, the Turtles and Splinter are pretty special but she's just supposed to be a normal person.
It's a plot thread that's been present for longer than almost any other unresolved story in IDW. I hope they do give us some sort of explanation eventually and Shredder in Hell seems like the perfect time to do that.

The fact that the classic representation of hell would be a paradise for Freeza. He'd probably spend the rest of his afterlife walking around torturing lesser demons.
I'm pretty sure sugar and rainbows would be insane torture for Shredder as well.

I like how Shredder somehow has this allure of savage bad-assery to roam freely in hell and possibly find some way to escape it. I mean dude, he's still just a human, and here he's prancing around as if he had the powers and abilities of Freeza or Black Adam. But damn, does that awesome art and his cool IDW design really prove he demands that much fear and respect.

Considering all of the "self-awakening" stuff, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that either Shredder is going to become a sort of a reluctant ally of the turtles or he's going to become even more dangerous.

Oh yeah, for sure.
Especially with the divisions between the Hamato and the Foot have been so serious for so long. It would take something that drastic to even things out.
Though, they did try that with the Technodrome and look where that ended up. I guess Shredder would be taking an alliance with more weight with Dragon Lord stuff, though. Since it's something that would potentially have been tampering with his life and existence.
