In order to get a birthday gift for Splinter, the turtles have to take on thuggish Times Square mascots.

Alright I'm seeing a pattern here. There's going to be a lot of episodes where the Turtles interact with humans who are under the assumption they're wearing costumes, aren't there?

It seems that they did flip the official order around between FatF and Mascot Melee. With the shows continuity they can switch a bunch of eps around lol.

Saw that coming... "too nice, I'll save it for special occasions" (or something like that). At least that part was actually relatable. lol

Mascots were annoying, but thought the Turtles part of the fight was decent and Raph working the crowd was kinda fun. The nod to the old movie was the best part. I definitely need that gif.

Kind of sad though that if this is the last new one (except for those who haven't seen tomorrow's) for god knows how long I wish it would have left us off with one related to the actual overall plot.

Ending a premiere set with filler will leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. We’ve already seen this with the prior cartoon, but this series may have it worse.

Is it a dumb plot twist that the thuggish mascots are actually mutants in disguise?

Thought it was good episode. I can see the mutants wanting make money or pickpocket as mascots since they’re mutants.

Haven’t seen the next episode but I knew it was gonna have another horrible schedule. Words can not describe how much I hate this format. It’s happening to a lot of cartoons.

So in this version Raph isn't afraid of bugs/roaches but has a peanut allergy.

Was that Cree Summer voicing that Female Mascot, because it was the same voice of that female ref in Shell in a Cell.

No more peanut butter on the pizza for Raph. :ohwell: Come on, thought they wanted to be more like the FW series. lol

Also, yeah, the mutants trying to get by as mascots does at least kinda make sense. Really though, was Leo really stunned by the girl costume's ass...? lol Wasn't sure I caught that right until I saw a repeat.

Would have made a nicer story though if it was instead GOOD, if misguided, mutants just trying to survive and the fight comes to a halt when they're found out by the Turtles who can suddenly relate to their plight. Rather than just being monster bugs there is immediately no sympathy for. (Not that being pick pockets, including of Raph, didn't immediately end any possible sympathy.)

Yeah, it seems like bad planning to not want to leave off with something that will have people wondering what happens next and at least mildly eager to see it return.

Turtlepedia has titles and in some cases summaries for some future episodes, though. And I agree this was a wasted opportunity. And what about bringing back Cowabunga Carl?


Alopex seems fluffy enough to be a mascot, if they try to stick to her original design.

I feel like the show's humor can be hit or miss but I really like the fight scenes in it, like the one against the mascots here.

Great fight/dance scenes in this one, Donnie gushing over the Atomic Lass mascot was funny and Leo's Mascot costume was just a fanny pack, the humans aren't very perceptive. Loved the gag with the tank closing it door so slowly, and jumping jack Splinter... Ewww :lol:

Atomic Lass could be elaborated upon further to turn her into a real love interest for Don. Maybe the Cockroach de-mutates and then for some reason re-mutates into something more attractive that resembles Atomic Lass closer? Or maybe, given the nature of the show, AL herself comes to life?

We don’t really know how the cockroaches started out, whether as plain cockroaches or as human beings.

Well, logically speaking it should probably go that they had been human, since mosquitoes probably aren't known for biting other insects. Now would this show consider that... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯


But if they were human and all know each other, all mutated the same, and are kind of really terrible people, then perhaps they'd been a bunch of crooks in some crummy roach infested apartment or holed up in some other location where they'd be exposed to them.

And in that case, maybe early mutants before the swarm of mosquitoes disbursed and had no chance to avoid being bitten? Or bitten while they slept so one had the chance to hit all of them.

This episode was absolutely batsh!t insane lol. My wife and I looked at each other more than once with a wtf expression before busting out laughing. For the record, that's a positive thing lol. We love Rise so much. They keep bringing the weird and the wild to this series and that's more than ok with us. :tgrin:

I caught this episode out of pure random (rerun got aired on Nicktoons in the morning and I had fifteen or so minutes to spare) and, I gotta say, I really enjoyed it.

I didn't care for that first episode too much so I wasn't planning on following this show closely, and it could be low expectations talking, but this episode was a lot of fun. I probably tuned out my care for good dialogue right at "April's memes are so lit!!" and I think maybe that's what this ep is going for, as it really is just one 11-minute-long action scene. There's a lot of care that goes into how things move and all the neat shots and perspectives, it really is a lot of fun to just watch. Keeping the plot as a simple "Turtles need robe for Splinter, Turtles need cash" was a good move for what they were going for here, making it feel way less rushed than it would otherwise.

That said, this thing was weird. And I loved it. They really play up the absurdity of the entire situation and use that to its own advantage. To me, a lot of the humor didn't come from the self-contained jokes, but from just the sheer ridiculousness of what was on screen. I think this kind of episode is where Rise can thrive, just self-contained stories that focus on animation, action, and absurdity, and if they drop the arc (if they haven't already, I've only seen this and Mystic Mayhem, looked to me like that first episode was setting up an arc) I think it would be beneficial to the show. Helps the pacing and all that.

Of course I'm saying that having only seen one other episode so I don't know how they've handled it after Mayhem but if it's handled in a similar way as in that ep...

You might like some of the other eps in that case. They haven't even touched that arc set by Mystic Mayhem, not until the 17th of this month. They've all otherwise been self contained eps so far.
