I've just realised something wrong since the original comic! The turtles are actually tortises! Turtles have flippers not legs!

They're mutants, man. Besides, is it really that big of a deal? That's like sayin' "they're not black, they're jamaican!"

Okay I'll let it slide. Besides, the name Ninja Turtles sounds better.

Heh... but it's also true that the United States defines the Turtle/Tortoise species differently from Europe/Australia too.

Your country thinks that all terrapins that are not in the water all the time are tortoises. Whereas in America, we think the terrapins that require very little water to thrive (mostly those who live in the desert) are tortoises. Those who live in the damp woods or the ponds and sea, are still called turtles here.

So that's why the Turtles, are still turtles here.

...I still believe that the TMNT were box turtles. Not red-eared sliders, dammit! :P

Thanks for the nature lesson there, HorseTurtle. :) Wow, you really do learn something new every day...at least I did, I never knew that stuff. :)

Yeah, we go for the triplicate system in Australia - land dwellers are Tortoises; freshwater dwellers are Terrapins and sea-going ones are the Turtles.

But Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises just wouldn't sound as good. :P

Ahh we can go on with this one..

Sea turtles have flippers.
Pond Turtles have legs and arms with webbing between their fingers making them look like flippers and have amphibious natures.
Tortoises are almost strictly land based with huge elephantine arms and legs.
The word "Turtle" is appropriate for ALL chelonian creatures. (just read that ina turtle book heheh)

But...
look at the original sketch of a ninja turtle...he looks like a tortoise to me !H hahaha ha ha haah

I think of them as red ear sliders.

In America most people think anything close to a turtle is a turtle.
