Hmm, I've just been listening to the theme song from the original series with the video footage on this website. I've also heard the Next Mutation theme on www.ninjaturtles.com and of course, I know the new series theme off by heart. Never heard the anime theme though. Which song do you think is the best?

I have not heard any except the old one from the original cartoon...I'll have to go with that one I guess...I don't think anything can top that 80's vibe it has...but I could be wrong. I'll need to hear the others...

*shudders at the words of the new theme song* I like the old one personally. Especially where it describes each of the turtles. The new song just shows they can count.

I still think they should lose the lyrics, and just play a theme music. Many cartoons do that.

I like the old one best, although the new one is growing on me the more I hear it.

True, but then it would lose its identifiable nature most likely. Few instrumental songs stick in a listener's head the way songs with lyrics do. Would the old song be as memorable without the words we all know by heart? Probably not.
It's kinda like why most wrestlers prefer theme songs with lyrics in them, it makes them stand out more than the generic rock music does. The new TMNT theme doesn't have the best lyrics, but it does kinda stick in your head.

in order:
original, cool cartoony music
new, rock'n' roll

True, but as far as I'm concerned theme song is there just to set the mood and inform when the show starts. That could be achived as well without lyrics. But you are right, it probably wouldn't be as memorable.

On the other hand I'll go so far as to say SOME theme songs just don't need lyrics at all. Two examples I'll state are Justice League and the old Batman:TAS. Both shows would be hurt by words in the theme song, I feel. But the characters involved in those cases are so iconic that they need only an instrumental piece that sets a certain type of mood. The TMNT are not those iconic characters (sorry all), so they need a little bit more "help" in their theme in the form of lyrics I think.

Those are good examples, Batman TAS used revamped movie theme and it worked very well. On the other hand, I don't think JLA's theme is anything special.

So far original is my vote, but I have to hear the anime theme again before I vote.
EDIT: Just thought I'd mention before anyone went and started some confusion, while they have a Japanese theme on this very site with slightly diffrent wording it's just the theme they used for the traslation of the original series, it's not the actual anime theme.

While on the subject of the new music, in Shredder Strikes Back Part 1, when Leo begins his training, the music I heard was the James Bond theme with the notes rearranged.

Actually THIS would be better:
*car appears into view, kicking up a sandstorm of dust behind it...a figure then walks out of the dust slowly and puts on a pair of shades*
Leo: "They call me Turtle....NINJA TURTLE." 8)

I think we all know what car it could be, the Astom Martin DB5. Donatello could be Q.

Ok, relistened to the anime theme X.x wish I knew how to copy music from real player movie files, but anyhoow... I voted the original, the anime's theme is nice, but it just doesn't have that turtles feel to it. If we were going for the Japanese version of the original song, then it'd be an entirely diffrent ball game for me.

The 80s series theme song, no doubt about it. Every time I hear it I get filled with nostaliga and just want to get up and sing along.
With the 03 theme song, it's funny, I *hated* it for ages but after listening to it several times it's actually really grown on me and I really like it now.

Yeah, the one that gets me all nostalgic is the end credits theme from the 80's...man, the feelings of nostalgia and sadness that those days from my childhood are over that come from it.
