Lawson just posted this commission he did on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/155495057879245/photos/a.157697387659012/2129349063827158), pitch was "if issue 33 came out, what would a possible cover look like."

Fun idea for a commission. Not sure what clues if any it gives to the remaining untold story, but thought I'd share.

Perhaps even more noteworthy is Lawson mentioning "I got a freelance job recently that involved TMNT volume 4" in the post. Is this your Origin project, Andrew, or something else that hasn't been officially announced yet??

Just saw this and was thinking of making a thread for it, so thanks for being pro-active!

I'm so glad someone had the vision to commission this, and that Jim was so happy to oblige! Really gets the imaginative juices flowing!

It may be me, since I literally just commissioned one more Origin page this morning (we're near the end and I thought one moment needed to pop more)... though I don't know that Origin "involves volume 4." I mean, it's not far from when Vol. 4 is set, I guess.

There may be talks of this or that. But nothing firm yet. And I think it's still way too early to give up on PL.

Has he released issue #31 yet or is it still only available to view online?

Ha, $10.00!

That's what every issue from #29-32 cost. They were $10 each. Paying $10 for a 30 something page comic may be extreme for some people, but some of us were just desperate to see how Vol. 4 would end.

I would gladly pay good money to see it finished

Yeah, it was released in print officially a couple years ago at this point.

I always thought there was some kind of irony of Don wearing a robot Turtle suit in late Volume 4 after Image turned him into a cyborg and PL complained about that, and then after we had Don/Metalhead for a while in IDW.

What's actually going on here? Does he have Peter's scripts or does he know what they would contain in some other way?

Lol yeah I had the same thoughts back when v4 was coming out. Peter Laird, irritated that Image mutilated raph and turned don into a robot... cut to volume 4—

On this most recent one Jim stated he was merely having fun. I don't think PL is involved. He did say he had stories in mind for these covers but didn't want to share them. Maybe that suggests something is in the works but I doubt it.

I'll take TwoFace Raph and Cyborg Don over Gameraph and MicroDon any day. But I think Volume 4 had a much better storyline for Donatello, the shrinking stuff notwithstanding.

Andrew NDB

My favorite stuff from both volumes is with Michelangelo, on very different levels.

The problem is you can't take any of the changes made to the Turtles too seriously because you know they'll go back to normal after a while. Same with the whole Dark Leo and Metalhead Don in IDW. Only difference is in Vol. 4 it went on through most of the run of the book. Hell Raphael was Gamera Raph for more issues than Don was a cyborg in Image.

Imagine being a Raph fan and reading the only current Mirage comic and he's a dinosaur from like issue 14 or whatever it was to 32+.

Peter Laird is simply the kind of person who'd insist that his Bad Ideas are automatically superior to other people's Bad Ideas, simply because he created the characters.

He's not altogether wrong, but his ideas were still... not very good. I think Vol. 4 and Vol. 3 were equally Not All That Good from completely different directions.

If he were to say that his ideas are automatically more valid than other people's Bad OR Good Ideas... that wouldn't really be incorrect. By default.

It's his baby.

I just think he had some highly questionable ideas about what was best for his "kid".

Yeah on the last couple he's said something like "just having fun here". Wonder how far he'll go? Didn't Laird speculate an endpoint to the series in a certain number of issues? Anyone remember how many?

The number he gave fluctuated. I think basically "around 5" was the last. But it seemed more of a range.

And now I want to know what Peter think about those fake covers... will it spark something inside him? Maybe he won't care at all about it? Just comment a little?

Is he even on the internet anymore?

I'll be here. Waiting. :ohwell:

I love how Lawson is even putting the hypothetical monthly dates on each cover.

Another one! Here's what Jim has to say about it:

One of the more enigmatic scenes of volume 4 was the event in the town of Swelfields ( issue 28 ). It was very brief, but striking for how odd it was. Quite simply, and without explanation, we saw the residents going about their business, and then suddenly lying down head-to-toe in the street. So- in my pretend continuation of volume 4, this was something that I wanted to tackle. I saw this as a test- a test of mass mind control from some as yet unknown villain. That past event sets up the scene shown here- where the residents of that small town have all traveled to New York in order to group attack the Turtles- again acting without knowledge or free will.

I'm loving doing these fake covers. They are totally just for fun and I'm not trying to prod Pete or get an agenda out there. Hopefully when I'm in the mood to do one, I'll just knock one out and that will be that. The first 4 were big and I colored them. This one is smaller- measuring 8.5 x 13 (my standard working size). As well, I'll probably leave this one black and white, and the others to follow, if I do more.

Hope you enjoy.
