I quit Power Rangers with the TMNT crossover episode and only the Boom! series made me look at it again. I know I said it a million times. It was a spit in the face of the original six and Ninja Turtles as I knew them. This is what the 90s' kid in me wanted and no there was no competition with the TMNT losing steam to Power Rangers I freaking loved them both and TMNT was always my #1. Tommy in green and the Green Team in the same image that I did not draw in the early to mid 1990s'? 21 years later Power Rangers gets redeemed. After Boom!'s success and crossing over with the Justice League and TMNT having several crossovers it was inevitable to happen. The 90s' kid and mega TMNT fan and former MMPR fan in me is excited for this. Maybe the TMNT can take a lead of the two featured and not get dragged through the mud this time around too,but I doubt it since we have Boom! apparently writing it instead of the preferred IDW. No Andros or Venus to ruin it all either.

I can confirm that the Boom Studios Rangers are an alternative reality to the original TV series; many elements remain the same but ultimately it is quite different.
I've read up to the conclusion of the Shattered Grid arc and it's pretty good but I'm strictly a Zordon era fan and the inclusion of many later ranger characters put me off reading further due to a lack of familiarity, that and I don't have the time to catch up on 20 years of episodes.

"The Power Rangers arrive in New York City to find Tommy Oliver - AKA The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger - but soon discover he's joined forces with the villainous Shredder and the Foot Clan! As the Rangers are sent reeling by this betrayal, they're confronted by another (fr)enemy - the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Can these heroes find a way to work together to defeat the bad guys and save the world from total destruction?!"
Never really thought too much about Power Rangers geography/world, and never really thought about what real-life cities would be included on their world. Looks like they have a New York City!
Also... Angel Grove, California was founded by the British in 1775? In the show, it always looked like a small town, community where everybody knew everybody's business... until the big monster battles took them through the urban metro!

Yes, if both participants in a crossover are IDW then it would be cannon, but if one of the participants are not IDW published then it is considered non-cannon like how Power Rangers is published by Boom!.

While I love both TMNT and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, I really dislike when the two are often compared together. And I know the reason why people do that but they are two entirely different properties. So I can't really say that I'm excited over this despite the art style looking clean. If this was 5-9 year old me, maybe.
Can't be any worse then the Batman crossovers.
I thought the first crossover was fairly good (minus a few things), the second one I haven't fully read but based on what I saw I disliked and the third one looks kinda iffy.

I know, it's a joke. I'm pretending I don't know what Power Rangers is for comedic effect, it's meant to be funny because knowing about Zyuranger and not Power Rangers is extremely unlikely. What would make it even funnier is that MMPR is more well known than Zyuranger, despite just being a heavily edited version of Zyuranger, something that wouldn't normally happen (or at least not stay more well known under normal circumstances). Do I really need to use emojis to clarify when I'm joking around here?

Probably powerangers rights are easier to obtain and make crossover, its almost always about the money, marvel is too expensive, wb already had turtles in their dc games so batman crossover was amatter of time.
Its just these redesigns arent really that good, turtles look strange , proportions, big forearms and kinda mimicking first mirage... meh.
But thats my opinion, im oldschool tmnt fan i guess and even in 90s power rangers were kinda silly to me while tmnt were fine.

I never liked Power Rangers. It took the place of TMNT in kid's media, but wasn't anywhere near as good. I know that technically it existed for decades in Japan before it became a US thing, but it's totally obvious that they marketed it here as a Ninja Turtles rip-off. Everything from the adjective-adjective-adjective-noun title and shape of the logo, to different colored martial arts characters plus a girl or two. Power Rangers and Next Mutation signified the end of TMNT for a long time until we finally got some nice reboots much later. I really wish they wouldn't cross Power Rangers with IDW TMNT.

A lot of the most recent talks about the comics is mainly about getting over the mediocrity of Beyond the Grid, and the overusage of Drakkon/Tommy.
It's just your typical "I'm excited" and "Why is tommy on the front of everything" because of how Tommy gets treated as the wolverine of the franchise, even though "Power Rangers" should be about the team.
also a few "This won't top Shell Shocked XD" comments. but it seemed to break down into "the amount of Tommy on the covers is too damn high."
that's about it as most of the recent stuff is about the ongoings with what was revealed at SDCC

This is funny how much I agree with them. My 5th grade self hates Andros though. I understand the overuse of Tommy,but I do take issue with overdoing the Lord Drakkon angle. It took up half of the 30 issues that the originial six were the focus and I wanted more of them and less of Drakkon. I was curious if they were like "this is a real crossover" because it was not the original team and the fact Venus was present.

And then Pokemon came out and killed Power Rangers in 1998, and so on and so forth. Besides that and Dragonball Z, it doesn’t feel like there’s been any other major kids fad after. Sure we got popular shows like Spongebob, Avatar, various DC cartoons, etc after, but nothing felt truly as big.

The big thing after Pokemon was Yugioh. I mean it was so huge in the west is the reason we got "Pyramid of Light" film created, even though that the Duel Monsters anime had already ended in Japan despite it would have came after the battle city arc. It left the film to only be a tv film in Japan.

So it's funny. I was working on a concept for a Gokaiger/Ninja Turtles crossover one time. And i remember laughing at the idea of Gokaiger changing into Megaranger (ie. the Space rangers) to fight with the turtles as a homage to the Shell Shocked crossover. Each ranger would team up with that corresponding turtles (Red/Leo, Yellow/Raph, Pink/Mikey, Blue/Donnie.) And then there is this hilarious image in my mind of Gokai Green (as Mega black) getting piled on my henchmen and cries out about being alone.

Not to sound old man, but the web-accessible cell phones and then the smartphones came along, and kids’ reliant on TV for entertainment (as well as their attention span) went down. * As the Rangers are sent reeling by this betrayal, they ‘re confronted by another (fr)enemy… the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Can these heroes find a way to work together to defeat the bad guys and save the world from total destruction?!
* Written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers: Necessary Evil) and illustrated by Simone di Meo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Venom Annual), the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fight – and maybe team up with – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the first time.

Its the first encounter. We wanted to see what we think of when we think of Power Rangers, the original lineup of Mighty Morphin. Less said about the referred to crossover the better so ancient fan rage does not resurface.
Plot-wise, why is the Green Ranger working with The Shredder? That seems to be the central question.

Yeah, its a take off of MMPR#1 from Boom!, but there was a variant for all six of the original rangers. I guess they could not decide which turtle should have whichever helmet so they just went with red? Educated guess.
Will Lord Zedd meet The Shredder? PLEASE! This will make it better!

I could see Mike getting a kick out of it pointing out the cheesiness. It could be done effective to older audience though. So the final fight, will it take place in a city of cardboard buildings or a quarry?:P

The putties always attack the park. Cardboard buildings are reserved for mecha fights. Beaches? Hmmm...there were a few Zyu2 stretch fights there I had forgotten. Perhaps two fights stick out the most which were from that, both were in a quarry, the Arnold Schwarzenegger gargoyle locking fist with the Green Ranger and the soccer ball armadillo monster being kicked out of the way with a save from the Green Ranger.

I'm trying to figure out, can the original six be stealthy? I know some groups have it as a trademark and there was a ninja theme in the third season, but its a trademark of the TMNT and not something I think of when I think of MMPR. The shared martial arts sure, but their stealth? Picturing the MMPR in the sewers also is an odd image to conjure just as odd as the TMNT inside mechas. Cyber Turtles don't count.
Allio

They really didn't get stealth to season three. I don't think Power Rangers inherited Sentai's Costume changes until later seasons.
But yeah, you have some places like

5 turtle, Rangers... 90s is back?:roll:
A Generation XYer’s favorite pop culture characters (TMNT) meet a Generation Yer’s favorite pop culture characters (Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers). The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and the live action 1990 movie TMNT have appeared on a quite few magazine covers like one for Teen Dream in 1994 nonetheless.
While I love both TMNT and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, I really dislike when the two are often compared together. And I know the reason why people do that but they are two entirely different properties.
The name of MMPR and theme song alone.:lol:
Donatello = Billy
Leonardo = Jason/Tommy
Michelangelo = Zack
Raphael = Kimberly/Trini
Splinter = Zordon and Alpha 5
Shredder = Rita Repulsa
Krang = Lord Zedd
Rocksteady = Baboo
Bebop = Squatt
General Traag = Goldar
Baxter Stockman = Finster
Almost every episode of MMPR was akin to a new mutant, robot, or human side character of the week episode of the 1988 syndicated FW cartoon series and 1990 CBS FW Saturday morning cartoon series.
Man, now if we could only get TMNT crossing over with the 90s X-Men...
The 90s X-Men did not define the childhoods or Millennials in the way that MMPR did in 1994.

The MMPR most likely learned of Finster through Alpha 5 and Zordon or an encounter in the Boom! Comics comic book series.

Fun start. Lots of good action, banter and set-up. (Though the "lasagna" line confused me a bit.) Also thought it was neat that while the Turtles and Shredder have some OT influences in their designs, Karai looks pretty much like the 2k3 design in a different art style. Unexpected, but cool. Very interested to see what Tommy's actual deal is as well as what kind of plan Shredder is cooking up.

You’re welcome. I believe the MMPR met Rita’s henchmen in the 2017 Boom! Comics comic books because there are some pictures online of the MMPR coming in contact with the henchmen and Rita. MMPR has camp value akin to Batman ‘66, but some older people see MMPR as copycat Voltron Defender of the Universe.

Bobby's word wasn't enough?
I think it'd be hilarious if this was just the 1987 universe after Turtles Forever but 03 Karai decided to stay because she missed her daddy that much and ended up whipping that Shredder into shape. But then she said Takeshi Tatsuo founded the Foot Clan, so there goes that idea.

Tommy's undercover status ended quicker than I expected it to. It is a bit of a stretch though as to why. So someone that was Tommy's old friend from before Angel Grove, his father called Tommy and told him he was involved in a gang so Tommy went undercover to pull him out? Only this Travis knew he was a ranger so The Shredder could use him? We need some clearing up there.
Shredder has the Technodrome to himself with Bebop and Rocksteady ass enforcers and Karai and human Foot? April is the reporter of Channel Six and name drops Irma and Vernon. Cool!

You know, it's funny. I can't ignore the fact that Power Rangers is a bizarre and unecessary attempt to disguise the very Japanese series Super Sentai as an American product (by outsourcing to New Zealand), even in comic book form where it only applies to aesthetics. Power Rangers just inherently weirds me out in that regard.
And the mixing of aesthetic elements when it comes to the TMNT side comes across as weird too. The Turtles have unique designs for this series, Fred Wolf Shredder standing right next to 4Kids Karai, 4Kids Foot symbols inside Fred Wolf Technodrome, Nick Metalhead standing in a corner, April wearing something that makes her resemble the Platinum Dunes version, Fred Wolf B&R showing up after Shredder weirdly starts to have design elements of the 4Kids Shredder, etc. It doesn't really feel like the art direction was very well thought out, it comes across like artist was using a bunch of TMNT toys from various eras as model sheets.

I did not catch it on the first read, but the camera man was Vernon, but he is supposed to look like Will Arnett.
Also, the banter between Raphael and Trini revealed The Rat King by name is a reoccurring threat the Turtles fight off. I really would like to see a few panels of that because I gather it would be like The Rat King as I know him best in the 1987 cartoon. In the same conversation it is mentioned that rock soldiers from Dimension X are another threat the Turtles face. Shredder references allies in Dimension X. Perhaps Shredder and Krang are not a team, but lose allies of sorts.

I meant she was sub servant to him. However, didn't she grovel at his feet in the first scene with Lord Zedd? I thought the reason he disposed of her was her constant defeats at the hands of the Power Rangers believing her to be incompetent? I guess its easier to see Shredder as being built up to be formidable as well as Zedd, but not Rita.

You'd think that the Turtles would take the powers of who they'd been spending time with (Leo/Jason, Mike/Zack, Don/Billy, Raph/Trini). April's the only one who got her corresponding Ranger's powers....

Yeah, I certainly thought they were setting up a Donatello/Blue Ranger, Leonardo/Red Ranger pairing at least.
This is my old fanart from almost a decade ago where I gave my shot at pairing the classic TMNT personalities (and April!) with the original MMPR costumes:

"Queen April" is apparently just April in the traditional Pink Ranger costume, but without the tunic skirt:

These designs look incredible honestly. I honestly didnt think they'd pull the trigger on making the turtles into power rangers but I'm extremely happy that they did! The designs look as good as I could have hoped for.
The story as a whole so far has been really fun and I've thoroughly enjoyed the tone and pace of it. I really hope we get to see sequel series of this crossover later on after issue 5 comes out.
And honestly, the art has been top notch all around so far.

It made me want to see Shredder's allies and Rat King in this iteration. Is it Krang and rock soldiers or the utrom race? Rat King seems like the closest to the 1987 cartoon version too.
I also agree the color coordination should not have mattered since it did not crossover well and it should have been who they connected with. I was surprised to see Raphael and Trini and Michelangelo and Zack connect.

I believe it is more of the fact there are four male turtles and they are two turtles shy of an even number. Not only that they needed a female and April while only a couple a times around has been an ally in battle, she is already present in the story so she got the extra morpher.
I would like to see more of this off-IDW version of the TMNT.

Seems like they might as well make these Turtles their go-to team for most of the pop-culture crossovers. They seem to keep them as close as possible to the popular assumptions about the franchise in the late 1980s-early 1990s.

Agreed. I loved the little nuggets from different versions of the turtles. I especially enjoyed how excited the rangers got when they learned the turtles had a blimp. :D
And they sidestepped whether splinter is a human mutated into a rat or a rat mutated into a humanoid rat. :tthumbsu: Kind of all encompassing without having to come out and hit you over the head with it. This crossover has been fun. I'm excited for the story and art of #4.

Also found Baxter's use awkward. Like, if they wanted to go all-in OT, they could've just had him already in fly form without needing to tiptoe back into whitewash territory.
That aside, I really dug that they custom-fit the Power Weapons to the Turtles and looking forward to some giant B&R action.

:lol:LOVE THIS!
Baxter Stockman got a cameo so it does not matter. I was surprised to see Baxter as a blonde again, but I do not have a problem which he looked like. I suppose its just good to see that he is pure human. He did not even make it out of the Batman team up that he appeared in without something happening to him. What was he using on the Foot Elite to make them into Super Putties?
Casey Jones looks like a non-muscular version of the 1987 cartoon, but acts like the New Line films version as he leads the rangers to Tommy.
It appears Tyler, Tommy's childhood friend was just Shredder's means to get the Dragon coin.
"Fabled Inter-dimensional allies" ? Is it Krang and a rock soldier army, the utrom race, Kraang Prime?
Bebop and Rocksteady grow 20 stories to fight the Turtles and April in the Megazord? What is next? Shredder summons the Dragonzord only for Tommy ot take back the dagger flute?
This makes up for my disappointment all those years ago.

Neat? I guess? Can't help but to think it's a little lazy to just have it be the Daizyujin with Metalhead replacing the T-Rex.
Seems to me like it would have been better with a combo of, let's say, Fugitoid, a MOUSER and Metalhead? Or if they really want to lean into the Fred Wolf ********, then a combo of the Turtlevan, Blimp, Turtlecycle and then Metalhead.
I don't know, seems like you could be a lot more creative with this concept. (Guess I dig the odd nod to Blatoise though)

I gotta say, I really dig this Megazord. Perfect combo of TMNT and MMPR in it, love the shell on the back and Metalhead as the head for it.
I finally got caught up on the series over the weekend and this has been a blast for me to read. It actually brought me back to reading as I hadn't really read but a book or two in the last year. I personally think they have done a great job so far with both brands in mixing and matching with it. Green Shredder Ranger is my new favorite thing; he just kills with that look. The turtles look great as rangers. Their interactions with each other has been wonderful to me. From Leo complaining about having a hard time driving the megazord in #4 and Donnie telling him that since he wanted to be red so bad he gotta do it to Mikey shouting out if they get to pick their colors when they realized they were gonna have to morph, this has been a fun read each and every issue.

Definitely looks like a sequel. Assuming Ryan is writing, hopefully it will be better than the current run of Power Rangers comics.
I understand its gone fan-fiction like IDW's TMNT ongoing just a different kind. Not social/political issues been pushed but this is 'what happened to the Original Six instead of what was seen on television'.
There were seeds planted for a sequel. It appeared like Rita and Shredder were going to pay Krang, Shredder's utrom ally a visit. Rat King was also name dropped so it would be cool to see him on panel for a cameo. Maybe even have Zedd involved to some capacity. I do worry that the urge of cramming so many characters will effect the story quality. I mean, I feel it just may thinking about the potential so I am sure Ryan felt it plotting it out. Batman & Robin and the third and fifth Spider-Man films need to be a warning of such things.
The Power Rangers comic has always felt like fanfiction from the synopsis', it's just MMPR fanwank over and over again. They have some good ideas, and they understand the history of Power Rangers since they use concepts from other seasons and expand on them only to ruin it by focusing again on MMPR again.
Then again a power rangers / tmnt team up seems like fanfiction even if it was already done in mainline Power Rangers canon before. The two universes don't make sense to be together and the power rangers are way more powerful than the turtles.

I read the trade paperback, and the best word to use for this mini-series is “fun”.
They definitely got a lot of mileage out of all the transformations, with Green Ranger Shredder being particularly awesome. It maybe trended toward fanfiction, but for a five issue distraction I enjoyed it.
My favorite panel was simply the introduction of Green Ranger Shredder. It was a striking moment that set the tone for the rest of the series.
https://i.imgur.com/OAfz2mIm.png
Also the 32 variant covers of the different turtles holding the different helmets is absurd. Does anyone own 1 or more? Which do you think is best?

Gotta say this partnership really didn't leave much on the table. It’s going to be hard for the sequel to top it.
