So much for Metalinka. It looks like the silicon soul bit means Metalheads must be destroyed.
It does not say anything about Splinter or Karai in #98 or #99. Not even the Dragon father of the Pantheon. We all assume that the devastation generically describes them. Aside from Splinter's death, what other devastation could there be? I am sure that you can come up with a few.

Why does everyone assume Splinter's going to die, I think he probably end up get trapped somewhere and confront the Rat king similar to Mirage City at War and 2012 Darkest Plight.

Well, we know Splinter ends up imprisoned, though we don't know by whom, so you're not far off the mark.
It's interesting to see that the Turtles will deal with Bishop before taking on Karai, just like they handled Krang before Shredder in the first 50 issues, only this time the circumstances seem a lot more dire and urgent.

Bishop has always been more of a threat than Karai.
Shoulda given Karai the damn orphans. :tlol:

My assumption has always come from the fact that he is Shredder’s guide in shredder in hell.

Same. I always suspected the end of Splinter's reign of the Foot Clan would end with his death. But the whole spirit guide thing doubled my certainty.
The rat is not long for this mortal plane.

He should blow up if only to slim down the villain roster after issue 100. I think we know a bit of a clean slate is coming so I think some deaths are expecting. Even if it’s a robot.

Up until a month ago, I believed this strongly as well. While that very well may happen still, in celebration, I guess you could say, of the upcoming #100 I've been rereading the entire series up to this point with me paying much more attention to detail than before. In the Shredder Villain Micro (where the afterlife concepts come from) the Kid mentions to Shredder that time does not pass in a straight line in the afterlife (which makes sense since Shredder fights Japanese warriors from different time periods and even a Confederate soldier in that Micro... when Shredder himself died in the 1600s). So, after reading that, I realized that, while it's possible Splinter will die during this arc, its seemingly equally as possible that Splinter being present in Shredder in Hell means that he dies eventually (obviously) but not necessarily at this point in the story. We will just have to wait and see.

Updated with currently released covers. No cover A for #99 but we already know from SDCC that it depicts Splinter behind bars.

I really hope Splinter doesn't die. I remember thinking he would in issue 50 as well, look how that turned out. But I feel like he has died in almost all the incarnations of the Turtles (TMNT 2k3,Nick TMNT, Movie, Mirage, even Archie)...
So, TMNT Urban Legends is expected to wrap up in June of next year? Not bad!Crazy how fast 2 years pass!

This issue seems very Splinter-oriented. No wonder it's double sized, if it's meant to be the showdown with Bishop and Metalhead as well.

Null plays bodyguard for Stockman when Hob assaults? This would give her some voice in the office if Baxter would become mayor and maybe oversee Stockronics while he is in office. It would give a villain to watch for the next fifty issues and a solid role that would give Lady Null more front ground story-line.

I'm glad it is, and with the collections for it maybe they can move onto Vol. 4.
I wish they'd continue the Tales trades, they stopped at issue 25 I think. Tales went on 70 issues...

The more focus and character development Splinter gets in a short amount of time, the more likely he is to die. It's the ol' Joss Whedon/Scott Gimple school of drama, but those two hardly invented the concept.
He wasn't yet primed to go in #50, but between the Christmas issue, its consequences, and what seems to happen in this one, he sure is this time around.

Besides even if he dies it's not like he won't still appear. There's an afterlife in this series, we've seen ghosts (Tang Shen), people who are literally dead in Hell (Shredder), so Splinter will appear in ghost form most likely from time to time.

Hmm, if we are doing a “trapped with the Rat King” bit, maybe it is not die as much “removed from the scene.” Which is still tragic, as Splinter was ready to hand off the Foot and make Clan Hamato a family again. Alas, Karai just had to go all in on child endangerment.
I think this really may end with the brothers split up. We briefly saw Mikey leave and they’ve had disagreements, but we’ve never had a full blown going in different directions in this series.

Maybe we'll have a double whammy - Splinter will die AND be trapped by the Rat King.

Rat King is responsible for the situation with the orphans and indirectly for Karai and Splinter dsiagreeing about transferring leadership of the clan. That is what makes his presence interesting not just because it was his second Mirage appearance in the City At War storyline.
