It's not much for a preview, but since it's releasing on the 31st and a thread hasn't started up yet...
Here's a short one? (https://www.idwpublishing.com/product/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-96/)
Did Leo really lose enough blood to pass out that fast?

I mean, my brother would get faint just being in the same room as someone taking blood. If you ever give blood, they always have snacks and drinks to recharge you, and I’m guessing Leo has to give more than a typical blood donation.
So Jenny is taking it about as well and can be expected. She immediately went to the “maybe it’s not permanent” thought though. Truth is, we don’t really have time to freak out too much with their lives at stake. Makes me wonder if we’re going to have her break down over it after this arc.
Of course there’s also the chance that Jennika might not be mutated permanently but I’d guess it’s at least for awhile.

Well spotted! And provided by Lindsey, no less!
Two thoughts:
1. It still seems weird that Jennika's hair just, like... absorbed back into her head? Falling out might have looked ickier afterwards, but still makes more sense.
2. I can't lie, while I can buy her being on "Leo" terms with Leonardo, he's the turtle she's had the most interactions with. It looks a bit odd seeing her saying "Donnie" and him calling her "Jenny" back. I do kinda feel like more groundwork could've been put down. Maybe some flashbacks would help in that regard?
Overall loving this though!

I hope if she changes back it is only a temporary thing. I also don't think Mutations are temporary in this time line. Bebop and Rocksteady never actually reverted, it was an illusion created by Savanti. Wouldn't one also need ooze administered every time they reverted to survive the transformation?

It's kind of ambigious as to wheter or not mutations can be undone.
First off, you're not exactly correct about Bebop and Rocksteady. Savanti accomplished this reverting their bodies to a previous age, for all intents and purposes they weren't mutants anymore, it wasn't an illusion. What's unclear is wheter or not they would eventually turn back into mutants regardless of Savanti or the Time Masters interference.
There's also the Gang of Four who claimed and demonstrated their ability to transform at will, simply by cycling the ooze in and out of their system. The problem with that is that when we see one of them lose a peice of his face, we can see he's mostly artificial underneath, implying there's a lot more going on.

(I actually thought the scene with Natsu sneaking sodas while Karai was out was really funny, simply because that would be a factor for Pete to just immediately want to befriend her. And somehow, I want that to happen so badly)

I wonder if they had Jennika ask about her mutation being temporary, just to give them a "backdoor out" in case the whole female Turtle thing backfires and they can change her back to a normal human in case it's not received well. I guess we'll see.
I am reasonably sure people are overthinking that line.
Anyone that isn't Bebop and Rocksteady would look at being turned into a mutant animal and go "uh... can you FIX this?"
Donnie's enough of a scientist that he's not going to say "no," but his "I have no idea" isn't promising, since he didn't even know what would happen. All this mutation stuff is pretty random. Anchovy ate a human-turned-mutant-rhino guy's ear and became bigger, smarter, and gun-savvy.
ChosenOne
07-29-2019, 10:36 PM
Jennika gets a blood tranfusion from Leo, turns into a ninja turtle. Anchovy eats a piece of Rocksteady, becomes smarter. Random is damn right. Though, to be honest, I feel that if we were to see any examples of the ooze or the mutagen's effects wearing off, then Hun would be the prime candidate. He only got one dose of the stuff, IIRC, unlike Saki's continued treatment, and is still going strong. Able to put up a decent fight against Slash and a Triceraton, at least. Ergo, I don't think it wears off. Or at least not anytime soon.

I don't think a straight up blood transfusion would be enough to mutate someone, remember Jenny had some Ooze before she was injected so that probably combined.

At the rate the story is progressing I do wish this wasn't just going to end in another 4 issues. The Foot being ruthless killers (under Splinter's rule), is very interesting but it'll likely to end by issue 100. I also like how this female Elite guard is getting a lot of focus, she had the best design out of the others.
So both Karai and Splinter are going after the mob, which is kinda funny, in addition to each other.

Karai and Splinter are pretty much doing the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti strand thing, only with violent ninja clan warfare instead of sucking and the poor Mafia's ever-dwindling numbers instead of the pasta. Brilliant! :D

It seemed like she was OK up until the discussion with Splinter turned to the orphans, then everything quickly went downhill from there. Hell, even Kitsune trying to convince Karai of Splinter being bad wasn't enough.
With that said, the sword probably is feeding off of Karai's anger.

It didn't look to me like he was about confront Splinter at all, more like he was just watching from the shadows and shocked at what he was witnessing, as he usually is when it comes to violence. Unless, y'know, he's the one inflicting it.
Regarding this issue, the two high points were definitely Casey and Hun's reaction to Jennika's mutation and Splinter's confrontation with Karai. I had high hopes for the meeting between Stockman and Null, but it seems the future Mayor isn't so keen on committing to alien-looking employers anymore. I could be wrong, but it seems we won't see the five Turtles in action until after this arc. Jennika still has a lot to process, and the brothers can't afford to wait around for her to come to terms with her transformation given Splinter's precarious situation. And on that note, whatever happened to the rest of the Elite Foot?

This issue went by a little too quick and not that much happened, felt more like a breather issue of the aftermath of Jennika. The Baxter/Null stuff feels like more set up for a future Null plotline that won’t happen till after issue 100 like all of Null’s appearances are just build-up to future plot lines we won’t see for months or years down the line. We’ll be on issue 150 still waiting for Null’s plotline to actually “start.” ;)
The gangster killing scenes were great but that’s all; and I feel like Karai going crazy really doesn’t make much sense especially after the Leonardo macro but I guess we’ll see. Hun and Hob are loveable jerks, they better be careful not to get themselves killed, lol.
No Bishop and Metalhead this time, guess it’s hard to squeeze both him and Karai’s arcs into the same issue. Likewise Leatherhead and Fugitoid/Neutrino pages from issues back haven’t been followed up on yet.

The problem is that with Alopex it feels like after she was done with being everyone's meat puppet, the writers don't really know what to do with her.

I figure Tom, Bobby, and Sophie have plans for Alopex down the line. After all, I used to think Hun should've died in "Vengeance", but seeing Casey become more like his father and team up with him has been a slow-burning story I'm VERY interested in seeing hit a crescendo!

Well Jenny and Casey did battlefield "I think you're neat" stuff, then there was the icecream social, then there was the christmastime date, and Coney island. I think with that many confirmed interactions it's safe to assume more happened off screen, given the dialogue.

Yeah, it’s less the sword ‘corrupting’ Karai anymore than it bringing a bunch of stuff she already carried with her.
To be honest, a person who picks up a mystical sword called the Sword of Hate and thinks, ‘naw, I can handle this’ (or, to take another angle, feels she needs it) probably speaks to her own overconfidence in resisting the Dark Side.
I suppose I’m one person who wouldn’t mind Jenny, Angel and Alopex forming a team...but I’m more inclined to think this series ends with the Turtles and their allies broken into factions. Raph with the Mutanimals, perhaps with Alopex joining him, Leo leading the Loyal to Splinter Foot faction with Jennika, Don teaming up with Harold and perhaps the Utroms at Bunrow to pursue solutions through technology, and Mikey...uh...either teaming up with Raph with the Mutanimals again or joining the Purple Dragons with Casey and April, maybe trying to put a positive public face on mutants? That’s a shot in the dark I know but I’ve always felt going for public opinion against both Null and the EPF would actually be the way to go.

maybe he calls it quits and becomes an online writer.

I would love that!

I am liking this constant appearance of characters whom we haven't seen in some time since City at War started.
Honeycutt
Dask, Zak, & Kala
Null, Zodi, & Krisa
Leatherhead
Antonio & Lupo
Hun
Chun, Link, & Malo
Yumiko & Mongo (very minor)
Lindsey (but she must've been in Battle Lines or at Slash's funeral...I just don't remember)
We still got a few more months. I wonder who else is just gonna pop outta nowhere.....Rat King :D

I still wonder why they included that one page of Neutrinos/Fugitoid a few issues back. They’re in space so I don’t see them having anything to do with City at war. I assume Fugitoid saw Maligna’s swarm approaching but they wouldn’t be able to cover that till after issue 100. Feels odd to include that page 2 issues ago.

Leatherhead also made his debut during Vengeance but didn't come into play until 5-6 issues after #50. It's an early tease. And for all we know, it could spin into something more substantial before this arc is out.
With that said, the sword probably is feeding off of Karai's anger.
And with all the talk about Splinter's anger in the series so far, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up in his hands, being even more dangerous.

Might be interesting if Maligna chose this time in the storyline to attack earth and everyone fighting had to start working together.
Tired of waiting for this. My comic supplier got screwed over by Diamond so waiting on a second printing.

I know, right? Still hoping we get a storyline like that eventually. I almost expected the Triceraton invasion to be it.

Honestly, I really, really liked the way 03 TMNT did the Invasion of Triceratons, by far my favorite version of that storyline. It felt like there was an actual massive threat, the scene with the Shredder watching what was going on was pretty dope. I might be misremembering though, haven't seen that cartoon in like a decade.

No, I reember that brief moment as well. Its my second favorite story-line in the series too and its six episodes long.

I just like how all that is going on, but all Shredder and Karai do is

That actually sums it up pretty well. Karai says something like" What should be our move father?". Then Shredder replies, "we wait". Shredder waited to take advantage and that is exactly what he did as the rest of the season he collected what the warring races left behind to make a craft of his own.
I suppose the next question is, why does Rat King approach Splinter? Sure its a homage to his second and arguably final Mirage appearance. However, I am curious to his angle. Will it play into Rat King's father the dragon returning? Stop Karai by allowing The Dragon Lord to emerge?
