Karai's soldiers and Splinter's soldiers are too different groups. Two factions of the same clan.

I have no friggin' idea how they're even supposed to be able to tell friend from foe in that mess. Both factions of the Foot look pretty much the same, enough so to be mistaken for each other in the heat of battle... The sound of all the "Sorry!" must be enough to drown out the clashing weapons and the gunfire.

Are you serious right now? This being the internet, I really can't tell. They do look exactly the same in their ninja garb. The only difference I can spot is that Splinter's Foot seem to be the only ones wearing forehead protectors.

Oh. So they do. Well spotted. I'd only noticed the forehead protectors. But then, why is Ocho knocking away that one guy with a red belt? And Splinter's Elite also have red belts, though they're much easier to tell apart from the cannon fodder. The whole thing still seems awfully confusing, considering the characters wouldn't have the luxury of reading about it in still panels from the comfort of their homes like we do. :tsmile:

Well, maybe because Ocho is just a nightmarish creature driven by rage and bloodlust. She don't give a FVCK who he squashes with her giant terror claws. :tlol:

I don't know which one of them I prefer, but Santolouco is REALLY good at big, bombastic and epic moments, which I think #100 should be, so he's my first choice on the matter. Dialynas is a very close second, though.

I very much doubt Ocho being killed off in 3 preview pages before the issue is even out is what it seems. Not to mention how short lived it’s character would be in IDW. Something like that would be saved for the middle of an issue.
I do hope for some villain deaths though. Karai, Koya And Bludgeon just licking their wounds and retreating to Japan again like they did last time after issue 50 would be way too repetitive.

I think that Ocho is dead. No reason for the demon to remain alive. Cool character, but a war needs its victims. Koya and the tattoo-girl are next. Bishop will be eaten by Leatherhead. Metalhead will explode. We'll loose some of the mutanimals and Jennika. Mallinga will be defeated by self-sacrifice of the Dragon. Pantheon, Neutrinos and Triceratons will fight off the swarm. Manmoth will storm the EPF. Foot will protect Baxter. Splinter, Hob and Bludgeon will survive.

I agree about Ocho, especially when the preview Tom Waltz put up on his Twitter seems to show Ocho fighting and that panel isn't the same as the panels we see in the official preview. So I guess Ocho is gonna be up and fighting.
Though, I can see how emotionally attached to this series I'm becoming cuz i found myself getting somewhat excited to see that Splinter is still in the fight.

Fist full issue I have read in at least a year...
Really enjoyed it. It had a great pace, some kickass panels, and I was able to follow along pretty easily, despite being more or less out of the loop since issues 50-60. It did make me want to go back and catch up, if I find the time/money, but I’ll be following along to issue #100 either way.
Splinter had one of my favorite lines of dialogue, regarding having trained over two lifetimes. It helped me to appreciate how much fun that reincarnation twist is.
(Have they been playing with that aspect of the series lately? I recall an intriguing panel featuring an Utrom spying on the turtles and Splinter in their past life, that seemed to imply something related to their reincarnation)
Anyways, as someone who dips back and forth on the book, I had a lot of fun. The only other thought that comes to mind is that Hickman’s X-Men run is on another level right now and reminding me how much I enjoy following comic books monthly. So while this was great, it’s hard not to compare to the only other book I read this week, which is really outshining most “superhero” comics as of late. In my opinion, anyway.
EDIT: Also, I'm probably missing something, but why is Casey such an asshole now?

Reading this issue + Shredder in Hell 4, here's my bet for issue #100.
Don't you guys think that Splinter will be the new body of the Dragon ?
In Shredder in Hell #4, The Dragon says that he's going for plan B
In #97, Karai does not want to kill Splinter, she wants him to be an example of defeat.
And in #89, the Christmas issue, in the future, the turtles will kill Splinter. FutureLeo apologize to FutureMikey for not finding another way (getting his soul back because the Dragon possessed his body?) and then FutureMikey says : "He stopped being father a long time ago."
Well that's my bet, see you in issue #100 :p

Nice art and fighting scenes in this one but too little Turtles as usual. Karai and her mutants are truly foes to be reckoned with though. Jennika dons her yellow bandana and Bishop is tracking Hun and the others. Found the discussion about Metalhead just being AI very interesting and Harold has a point.
The Turtles will likely call on Old Hob and the Mutanimals for help along with their other friends. I wonder how this will be resolved and if Karai will be defeated. Like I predicted the Pantheon aren’t really in this arc and likely watching from the sidelines, we’ll probably not see them resolved till issue 150.
I actually think having Bishop and Karai in this arc is a bit too much, it’s like fighting the EPF and Karai’s Foot is filling their plate. I can see why the Patheon aren’t here and Null is back on the sidelines as usual.

I liked how Jennika...got her bandanna from Karai's Foot Assain's work uniform. That was her old job, wasn't it?
I thought Brooklyn's reaction was a bit out of place. This is kind of the first time he has ever been anything other than Hun's bartender, so it was a bit jarring.
Hoping the reinforcements come fast for a grand finale!

I think it suits Brooklyn cuz way back when the Skara Brae got trashed when Hun tussled with Fergie and Kennedy (remember them?), Brooklyn was very angry, believing that this ultimately had all to do with the Turtles and the Foot. So Brooklyns unpleasantness towards Jennika is right up there where we last left off with Brooklyn.

Pour one out for Yumiko and Mongo of the Elite Guard. Yes they had no character but their designs were cool.
I’m actually hoping all of Karai’s minions drop dead. The Turtles forgave Koya and Bludgeon way too many times and they keep coming back for another fight. And Ocho is obviously pure evil. I don’t know if Karai can atone, probably not but Natsu must also die for killing Mongo in cold blood.

At this point, I think I'm finally in agreement with others; IDW TMNT has too many other supporting characters.
Whittle it down. Spin them off into side series or something. But too much is too much.
I enjoyed the issue somewhat, but I'm growing pretty tired of this feeling of "spend two pages checking in on THESE guys, spend two pages checking in on THESE guys, and spend two pages checking in on THOSE guys."

A lot of the current villains have been around a long time too like prior to issue 50. I am also predicting Hun might die but I guess we’ll see. I do think there has to be some villain deaths soon but it won’t be Bishop or Karai so some of the lesser villains will probably go.
Especially since they’re setting up for Null’s arc to finally start after issue 100.

You can never have too many villains.
It's Harold, Lilly, Angel, Alopex, Jennika, Casey, April, etc, that are too many. Too many allies. Too much "family." That goes for Pepperoni, too.

Villains are easier to kill, because unless they reform or change sides, villains have to be "defeated" eventually and this isn't like Batman where he just takes them to Arkham Aslyum to be locked up. They have to either be killed or done away with in some form. I mean they already did that to Shredder and Krang, they're both dead.

Yeah, but both Shredder and Krang had/have the potential for more good stories in them.
It's a lot harder to write a fresh take and a new interesting story on, say, the Joker, just due to the character's longevity in publishing.
Honestly, wasn't a fan that Jennika's bandanna was just a belt that Alopex happened to snag. Not the worst way for her to get the iconic look, but I do think that could have been handled better.
Pour one out for Yumiko and Mongo of the Elite Guard. Yes they had no character but their designs were cool.
Yeah, that's my biggest problem with this arc. The battle for the soul of the Foot Clan would be a great story idea... if more time had been spent fleshing out the rank and file. We kinda knew from early on that the odds were preeeetty firmly against Splinter holding on to the Foot Clan because the Foot Clan that Splinter took over never felt like... people. Yeah, Jennika was a step in the right direction - a big one - but a few very small interactions (like Leo having a chat with some minor-but-named ninja, or Mongo telling us his favorite joke) would have gone a long way. We got just a tiny hint of Yumiko and Mongo being actual characters the last two issues, aaaand now its over.
I’m actually hoping all of Karai’s minions drop dead. The Turtles forgave Koya and Bludgeon way too many times and they keep coming back for another fight.
I would argue that Koya and Bludgeon are the only villains that should be allowed survive this. I'm more than tired of Karai at this point, and Natsu has proven herself the sort of person that will kill her family for "being dishonorable" then shoot an unarmed enemy that's fighting someone else.
But Koya and Bludgeon are something the book badly needs. Bludgeon cares about Koya, and Koya... reciprocates. A bit. They have a little shred of humanity, they care about someone other than themselves.
To put that in perspective, look at the rest of the villains. Shredder could've had a little more depth in this iteration, what with the childhood friendship with Splinter, but he's basically pure evil. Same with Krang. Baxter Stockman's pretty much pure evil too. As is Maligna. Bishop's so evil he shrugged off killing his own dad. And Null might be the purest evil of all. Most of the villains that had a little more to them, like Hobb, Hun, and the Triceratons, would probably be considered allies of some sort or another at this point. The only enemies that show any ability to really care about others are Bludgeon, leatherhead (a bit), and (in a very twisted way) Bebop and Rocksteady.

The weird thing is how friendly the Turtles were getting with Koya and Bludgeon just a few issues ago during the truce, and then this happens. Or Bludgeon going out to kill the children. Koya also went crazy one too many times. These two never learn from their mistakes.
Also this feels like the umpteenth time the Turtles had to fight them, their fights with the Turtles are also getting a bit too repetitive that I don't want to see the same thing happen again after issue 100. I mean go back prior to issue 50 and they're essentially in the same place they are now. I wouldn't mind if they finally were killed off.
I get the weird feeling that like after issue 50, Karai/Koya/Bludgeon will just retreat somewhere to Japan again if Karai isn't imprisoned or something, and then it'll just be a re-tread of what happened during issue 50. They need to put a stop to them and bring the story to a point.

I trust IDW to do something interesting with Karai and her team after "City at War", and not just do something status quo. It might take a long damn time go get around to it, like however many issues were between "Vengeance" and "Karai's Path", but they'll get there.

I think this has more to do with us getting a preview of her bandana than any issue with the story. It only seems like a coincidence because we knew that she was going to get a yellow bandana ahead of time. Within the story, it makes sense that Karai's assassins would be wearing a different color than Splinter's, and it's symbolic since she used to be an assassin herself. If they had been wearing any other color, that would have been her bandana color, as all that was important was that she took it from a Foot assassin. We just knew it was going to be yellow, so when dudes in yellow showed up it was like, "well there it is!"

That whole thing with the assassins (who apparently are Karais assassins) begs the question, who were they after? Does Karai know that Jennika is still alive or was she targeting Alopex for her betrayal all those years ago? Maybe Hun for his betrayal? That last one wouldn't be out of left field so-to-speak since Karai became very anti-outsider prior to her leaving for Japan. It seems Bebop & Rocksteady are the only exceptions to her outsider angst.

That's why I wish every issue was double length, it's obvious IDW wants to tell a story far bigger than the mandatory page count of 20 pages a month allows.
It also doesn't help IDW constantly sets up things that doesn't happen for months or even years later (like with Ch'rell or Null, or previously how long it took to get to Bishop, the Triceratons or Leatherhead's first proper debuts), or how the Pantheon story overall is so big in scope that it looks like it'll take the entire run of the series to properly cover.
It's why I hope that post issue 100 they don't introduce too many more new villains (I mean I know realistically there will be, but at least not huge big threats), and cover the story beats that had to sit on the sidelines for awhile like Ch'rell, Null (and Maligna), and then wrap up a lot of current story arcs.

I'd say they could do it in 50 issues. #75-#100 progressed the story a lot faster than I had anticipated.

Most likely to issue 150, assuming another new major villain isn't introduced. They basically still have Null and Ch'rell to cover whose stories haven't really properly started yet. I'm sure Maligna will be allied with Null similar to the Archie version and that's probably who Null was talking to in space.
Besides that the Patheon is obviously going to be here the entire run of the series, and I imagine Bishop will be around till the end too. The other characters depends on if they kill them off or not, I don't see Karai dying but rather imprisoned, but I can see Hun, Koya, Bludgeon, Ocho, Metalhead all biting the bullet at some point. Bebop/Rocksteady will probably appear on and off in their own miniseries like before.
Baxter will more or less probably remain ambiguously good for the rest of the series with the occasional shady dealing like with Null.
Everything I just listed above is another 50 issues worth of content, and this is not counting whatever new characters IDW continues to introduce after. If they do I hope it's just more minor threats or villains like Rahzar/Tokka, etc...rather than more big "major" threats like Ch'rell, Null, the Pantheon, etc.

It's hard to imagine which other big bads they could even introduce that haven't been covered already, othen than original characters.

Yeah they've pretty much introduced almost every major villain in TMNT history so far that they can use, just more mutants like Rahzar/Tokka or Armaggon, etc. haven't been shown yet, but if they do appear I don't see them being major characters. They could use some Nick 2012 characters like Fishface or Tiger Claw, but I dunno if they're still "too new" to use at this point even though the cartoon ended a few years ago now.

Tokka/Rahzar and Armaggon are small fries in the grand scheme of things. Maybe villains like Lord Dregg, Chien Khan, Viral or Sh'okanabo could be made to work but they're all longshots. We already have the essentials, time to push it through to the end.

Lord Dregg and Maligna pretty much cover the same ground as insectoid aliens, so I can only see Dregg appearing if he's Maligna's mate or something. She is the Queen after all and needs a male king.

I dunno about needing a king, she looks an awful lot like a praying mantis... If Dregg was her king at some point, he's a goner by now.

Would be the next fodder faction? We had the Savante set up to make Shredder's Foot Clan look good and then the Street Phantoms set up make Splinter's Foot Clan look good.
Where might The Federation fit in? General Blanque could always be Dask superior who went rogue if not The Federation itself that would fit into this universe.

All the other random gangs are fodders or killed off quickly. The Savate were treated like a joke and all killed, Darius Dunn and the Street Phantoms were defeated easily, all those random gangs earlier in the series like the Ghost Boys were killed by Bebop/Rocksteady or arrested, then we just had Lupo and his gang who were all killed, and then just recently a whole bunch of gangsters like Big Louie and such were all killed by the Foot.
Pretty much every other rival faction outside the Foot and Purple Dragons just shows up to immediately die and be killed off.

Chien Khan's white (and more mystically-inclined) ninjas could be interesting to see, after 100 issues of fighting ninjas clad in black.

They could be called The Sons of Silence and have a psychic connection to the galaxy.

I'd like to see the Sons of Silence join IDW TMNT, yes, but not remixed with other characters. Though your idea isn't half bad, I gotta say.

I thought it might make Chien Khan's group of ninjas into formidable force and give him a source of their power. Instead of a dog deity or whatever it was that Khan followed could instead be the Sons of Silence as his source of power. The Sons of Silence could also tie into the Pantheon and thus the overall storyarc.

Now you're making me nostalgic for Cherubae, the Turnstone and Chu Hsi! :D All of them would make strong additions to IDW further down the line.

Aside from Future Shark Trilogy its been years since I have read the Adventures run. I suppose as we get closer to The Forever War seeing the light of day it is something to work into our schedules.
I guess it shows than any character can fit so long as the character(s) are able to make sense of where they are placed within the overall story. As proof who thought that Darius Dunn or Dark Water could serve a purpose?

IDW can make any character work, even Eric Sacks if they wanted to introduce him.

Personally, I've always held out for Lord Dregg, but it seems very unlikely he'll ever show up.

Disagree. Again, we had no indication of these Foot Assassins of Karai AT ALL before this issue. Then they just pop in for the sole purpose of this event, narrative-wise.

I really hope they go smaller scale after this tbh. As people in this thread have mentioned, this story feels too massive to fit into 20 pages per month, which leads to everything feeling somewhat rushed. Just my 2 cents. I did like this issue, though.

Yeah I am personally hoping that they keep up doing the second book anthology it really helps to flesh out the story.

I was wondering about this, and hope maybe that at some point we get something like TMNT Universe again, or maybe the main title becomes a twice monthly, or maybe a second ongoing series. If they do that, I personally think a Dimension X series would be perfect. You have numerous characters already there, both main and secondary like from the Trial of Krang/Dimension X mini, and you can easily throw other characters from the main title there, like the Utroms, the Triceratons, Leatherhead, Null, maybe even Bebop, Rocksteady, and Anchovy since they don't care just as long as they are part of a group. Plus it's a different dimension, so the turtles wouldn't be involved as much.

I really want the next Bebop & Rocksteady mini to take place in Dimension X.
