View Full Version : The show is being moved to Nicktoons (that is not a good thing by the way)

In case you don't know, when Nickelodeon moves a show to Nicktoons they're basically saying "This show isn't profitable enough for our dying network, let's dump the rest of the episodes on our even faster sinking sub-network". Essentially, it's a quiet cancellation.

'Rise' or not, that's a shame. The same old annoyance 2012 had after a while... they can schedule a big block of Spongebob reruns across that time frame, but god forbid the Turtles get to show a new ep just once on the regular channel.
Long hiatuses, nearly nonexistent from the reg channel, episodes that allow for feeling entirely indifferent about the series and lack of getting hooked on it... If it bombs they just better realize it was them, not the Turtles as a property. :ohwell:
Well, unless they scrap it, maybe it can have a better second season and save itself, but not holding my breath.
edit: If it bombs and ends after two seasons (or less at this point?), I know I'm jumping the gun, but with the Viacom/CBS merger, it would be nice to someday get something more the caliber of 2003 airing on CBS and just get the TMNT off of Nick and out of the aim of them wanting to make the Turtles for little kids.

Gee Nick finally realized this show was not good so they are quietly dumping it.

I really hope the 2012 series comes back, at least with a movie or special or something. Ciro sent several pitches to Nick, I really hope they get to revisit it.
As for Rise, it was an interesting experiment, but if its over, well that's it. I think it does give Nick a inkling though that you can't revamp/change the TMNT franchise too much to make it something completely different and expect fans, or even new little kids, to get interested.
I haven't watched Rise in awhile but I'll probably watch it all when it ends, but even then it is what it is.

Is it being replaced with more spongebob?.....welp first OK K.O. gets canceled and now this. And I don't even like Rise. But it deserves better than to be dumped into Nicktoons to die.
EDIT: Wait isn't Rise getting a movie? So this can't be the end yet.
Is there a better source than that? Don't get me wrong, I've never known NickAlive to be wrong, but it's still not an official statement.

My understanding (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me) is that the movie was greenlit waaay early in the show's life, and Netflix was snapping up lots of movie deals - we've already gotten Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life movies. They most likely said "and we'll do a movie of whatever the current TMNT is too."

Eh, the Netflix thing was mentioned in February, and this article (https://comicbook.com/movies/2019/08/27/rise-of-the-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-movie-netflix-spoilers-nickelodeon/) was just a few weeks ago.
Chances are they go ahead with the Netflix and season 2 (as they may well both already be in production anyhow?), but if it goes beyond that is anyone's guess, I suppose.
Well, Nicktoons is airing reruns in October... https://www.tvpassport.com/tv-listings/stations/nicktoons-hd-east/11445/2019-10-05
But over on regular Nickleodeon it looks like new episodes are appearing again at the usual time somewhere in October.

It could easily be that reports of the show's death are an exaggeration. I'm not a fan, but I think people are being quick to jump to conclusions here.

I've always said, I don't think "Rise" was ever intended to be the "New TMNT™." Just a cheap, experimental thing they'd run as a transitional thing in between the 2012 version and whatever the next "big" (real?) version will be.

To be a succes i must kill people in evry episode and have a lot of blood and also i must be fighting the turtles in most episodes like in the 1987 series . It must be about me and my war on the turtles and Splinter like all the other versions are no the turtles fighting mutants . Now that iam returning on Rise the show will be saved because i wil teach the turtles aleson that they wil never forget!!!! The only good thing about rise is that April wears glasses. At least in IDW aim getting my revenge now!

Rise doesn't seem to be doing well because its strictly aimed at a younger audience. TMNT as a whole is a franchise that's for all ages. So by creating this series. They have alienating the fans which is the reason why the show isn't catching on.
And the problem is Nickelodeon. They are a Network that caters to Kids and only Kids. They do not want older people watching on there Network. Which is why they made this new TMNT show. To only cater to there demographic.
My Tivo has recorded all the episodes from Rise. But I haven't brought myself to watching them. Maybe I'm just not feeling it or something.
TMNT 2K12 worked because it was a show for all ages. Both young and older fans loved it. Me included.
Its unfortunate that Nickelodeon is moving this show to NickToons. Not many people have this channel on there current cable tv package. It would cost extra.
When Nickelodeon moved the final episodes of TMNT 2K12 to NickToons. I had to temporarily subscribed to Sling.com to watch them. And it became quite an expensive thing. I had to pay more just to watch this one channel for those weeks. It wasn't worth it.

Leaving people where really? With the best option being those online sources that shall not be named? So Nick and the cable companies shoot themselves in the foot by even breaking up their cable packages and shows on different channels so they limit the viewership.
I miss when the regular Nick channel was more of a mix, including those shows that were still watchable by adults. They went the way Disney Channel was going in tone and just went downhill from there. Only cartoon (excluding preschool stuff early in the day) that really seems to be allowed to stay on Nick, and hog up quite a lot of airtime, is their golden child sponge. God forbid anyone prefer the cartoons they make but not have Nicktoons on their otherwise preferred cable package.
With cable starting to lose its footing a bit to other options (such as Sling, etc) you would THINK they would wise up and start offering customers a menu to just pick and choose the channels they want. :tconfuse:

Unfortunately for services like Sling. Nicktoon is part of a package that comes with other channels you don't need. They don't have the option to just pay for one specific channel. When Nickelodeon moved those TMNT 2k12 episodes to NickToons. I had to pay 44.49 because it was combining the Sling Orange package with the Kids Extra package. And you would have to pay that every month. It wouldn't accept my prepaid credit card. so I had to use those Sling Giftcards to pay for it.
Okay but we've literally only got confirmation about reruns being on Nicktoons until October, and in October new eps air on regular Nick.
It certainly could be that this is the first step to fully Nicktooning it, or they're just putting reruns on it for a bit, or who knows? It's a bit early to make assumptions.

I don't know why it's only coming up now though, since reruns have been on Nicktoons for much of the show's first year anyhow. It doesn't seem to have a consistent listing, but I've often run across it on there on some weekday mornings.

Ouch. I thought options like Sling might offer a better deal and considered looking into it in the past, but never mind. :ohwell: No way is that worth it for 11 minutes of an ep that likely contains nothing important to the series that needs to be seen.

I don't know enough about "Nicktoons" to know if what the OP is saying is hyperbole or a certainty, but others seem to be agreeing so, if that really is the case, I'm not sad to see it go. Better now than later... so they can get started on something more pleasing.
They had their little experiment... maybe they can learn what worked and didn't work from it and go in a direction more people will enjoy next time.
Nick should have proved to themselves with 2k12 that you can appeal to established fans and recruit new ones all in one show. You don't have to go full kiddie to get the job done.
I'm not yet worried about the future of TMNT. But after the disappointment of Rise, and two live action movies that both had mediocre performance and reception... the franchise can only take so many failures before Nick just gives it a rest (do nothing with it outside of comics and a few merch items to let the brand cool off), or decides to sell it some some other entity.

I already have my foot nija army preparing thanks to my servants thenbaxter stockman will create a formula that will make it an adult i will find bebop rocksteady and some other new mutant henchmen then krang will come and become my ally and we will be fighting the turtles in most episodes . That what needs to happens for it to become succesful. canceling it only to start another one is not necessary. just make some big changes to it and it will be ok.

They've also got their "NickRewind" (formerly called "The Splat" -- so that's where that went), that airs on TeenNick (is this a channel even commonly had by people though?), but in the same vein as them having Nick Jr for so long, I've always thought they need a dedicated Nick Sr channel for all these old shows and new content for older teens and adults.
Though at this point I think I'm voting for a next TMNT to be aired on the merged CBS instead of burying it on some upper Nick channel people less commonly have.

The season season brings the show up to 52 episodes (although they're 11 minute episodes, so it comes out to less overall viewtime), and one movie coming.
If it ends there it's a decent run. I don't think this show has the stamina to go on 100+ episodes like the previous 3 cartoons, so if it ends around 52 eps, they had enough time to play around with the new concepts and characters and it'll be fine.
I would've liked to have seen more, any chance of this getting a third season?

No, absolutely not. That is an awful idea. First off, the Fred Wolf show sucks and doesn't deserve a continuation just to make nostalgic 40 year olds feel validated in their misplaced affection.
More importantly however, said 40 year olds wouldn't even like it in the first place. If it really did continue the show from where it left off, they wouldn't even recognise the status quo. And even if that wasn't the case, the default way to write the Fred Wolf Turtles for the past 10 years came across as making fun of them to the nostalgia crowd.
It's way better to start from scratch. A Fred Wolf continuation would be a horrible mistake.

I don’t know much about animation development/business. Is this common practice? To just throw out a filler “in-between” show while you chalk up the next big thing? Seems like a lot of money wasted, but the show does sort of give me that vibe. It just seems like such an odd left-turn when what they had seemed generally successful.

Cut it out with the ageist snark. You're basically insulting and writing off the very people who gave you this website. The FW cartoon is the whole reason many of us are here and we love it, our affection isn't "misplaced", I genuinely feel the show is superior to a lot of the crap we've gotten after, except for seasons one-five of 23K.

The show has very obvious flaws in terms of writing and animation, on an objective level it's bad and people primarily defend it out of nostalgia. You can love the show all you want but it's hard to argue that it's actually good, meaning that affection is probably better directed towards something else.
And any sneak peek into what a revival could turn out like has largely been seen as "making fun" of the series, meaning that anyone interested would likely get turned off by the results.

Eh, I'll pass. I love it for what it is, but as I was saying before, it's a product of its time and I feel like it would just end up like 'Rise' in looking like the creators would be trying too hard in a way that doesn't feel genuine or quite work. But they'd no doubt also want to update it, so...probably end up with that bunch of Turtles paired together with the kind of weirdness the likes of Spongebob has been sinking into.
If any series was picked back up and continued, I'd rather see (and had already wished for) that happen with 2003. The general style and tone of that one (sans those last couple of seasons) would still work well a decade later. (Hell, we need more serious cartoons that aren't trying to be a wacky, eccentric sugar rush with a Lisa Frank color palette.**)
A 2012 movie would be very welcome though.
** edit: Which reminds me I, ironically, keep wanting to take some TMNT line art and try to give it the Lisa Frank treatment for the hell of it. lol

Although... I'd be just fine with aging them up to the present time.
Would at least be a convenient way of doing a continuation that is similar in look and tone, but still "different enough" just by the nature of making everyone older.
Poor Splinter might be elderly by that point though. (But hey, they can tap into the relatable "taking care of an aging parent" thing that most deal with eventually. lol) A 50/60-something Shredder would be amusing to see.

Ooh that was unexpected in my opinion, I mean at least the 2012 series got what?Three seasons before moving it to that deadly channel? Korra series got it worse though, fandom had to watch all its episodes online during its third season I believe. Having the series get a third season is a no though, I couldn't care either way. I just want a good conclusion for the characters, Leo stepping into his leadership role in season two. I just write this series as a failed experiment and move onto the next version. Hopefully they learned from past mistakes.

The only source for the "It's moving to NickToons" info has walked back the claim, saying it was just a mistake from a place that posts TV schedules.

"Flushed but Never Forgotten" (premiering 10:30pm eastern Nicktoons tonight 10/12) is repeating 9:30am Sunday (tomorrow 10/13) on the regular Nick channel. Go figure. (Previously listed as the next ep, but changed to this one this morning.)
So now, since a repeat does air on reg Nick, that makes the believed "move" to Nicktoons a bit questionable and the random late hour even weirder? :tconfuse: (Yeah, forget any darkness being the reason. lol)

I know this is aimed at children, and in that way, I shouldn't worry too much about the direction it takes, but I don't think the franchise is being handled to it's full potential. It is odd how it quietly moved new episodes to that channel. Guess they lost faith in the show. Must be doing horrible in the ratings compared to most, than again I don't think Nick has any thing special on it besides Spongebob or that house show forgot its name. It doesn't surprise me that it moved to Nicktoons one way or the other, since they don't seem to keep much in the way of cartoons consistently on the main channel anymore other than Spongebob, and even 2012 moved while it was still a pretty good show, but the 10:30 at night part is a little baffling.

I think the best way to describe this show is it was a, "stopgap" cartoon, inbetween the successful 2012 cartoon, and whatever cartoon Nick makes next.
I honestly don't think they were expecting this to be that succesfull (although of course they hoped it would be), as it almost feels like a "filler show" so to speak, between big productions. I think it's also why promotion for this show is nowhere on the level of the 2012 cartoon, when that show had new eps airing they promoted the hell out of it both on TV and online. You always knew when a new episode was coming.
The sheer difference between that and Rise is rather obvious.

It could be awesome. Of course I'd prefer ruminations on revenge & existence in between glimpses of ninjas in the shadows, but If we can't get that, something that tackles the lighter aspects of Mirage is still sort of an untapped potential.

Not really checked in on Rise since the first few episodes. How are the ratings these days? I know this board is kinda dead but I attributed that more to the show not really being "all ages", so less people here watched it than watched 2012, than I did it flopping.
Don't really see much for it in the UK besides the toys in stores. By that measure 2012 was definitely bigger (more clothing and other merch as well as toys) but it's hard to really measure.
If it's dead after 1 or 2 seasons, hopefully the next incarnation will be a little more traditional and all ages. But I'd also be up for a show aimed purely at kids (like Rise) and another show aimed at an older audience. Unlikely but I can dream.

I don't see why this show isn't all ages, I mean sure the show isn't dark has the previous two iterations but it doesn't mean its automatically just for kids.

Well, the past versions were for kids as well.

In case you don't know, when Nickelodeon moves a show to Nicktoons they're basically saying "This show isn't profitable enough for our dying network, let's dump the rest of the episodes on our even faster sinking sub-network". Essentially, it's a quiet cancellation.
NickToons is very definitely a lower-rated sister network to Nickelodeon. Or it could be what happened to The Legend of Korra, which was yanked from TV airings altogether and streamed only from Nickelodeon's online service.

HA Legend of Korra days, the schedule that show had was a mess, Rise looks to be going that way. How long did it take for season three episodes to get released? I remember being super excited for book three as that was in my opinion the best season. I wouldn't mind it just releasing all the Rise episodes online if it gets canceled at season two why the heck not?

All of the cartoons are for kids. But just looking around these boards it's clear to see that both 2003 and 2012 offered something that interested a wider age range and appealed more to older fans than Rise has.
Not necessarily anything to do with being darker, but they both offered more in the way of character and story.

None of this is conclusive proof that Rise is facing cancellation, and it could very well keep on going for more seasons. There could be a variety of reasons why it's being treated this way, including Nickelodeon simply being operated crappily.

Nick won’t say officially, but it is over. Will not be renewed for another season. From what I hear, work has already begun on something new.

Uh, that’s neat. Let’s see if its still happening in January. My money’s on nope.
Edit* ohhhh I get it, you’re being a dick. Damn yo, you and trailer-park Superman throwing shade.
Show is still done, Oh well.

Whoa there, buddy, slow your goddamn roll. I don't even f*cking know you, guy. Not sure why you hate me, but my opinion of you was entirely Neutral until about two minutes ago.
For the record, I f*cking hate this show and I wasn't picking sides in the debate about it (I generally just stay out of it). If I *had* to pick a side with a gun to my head, I'd actually be on yours. But Powder's comment legit made me snicker, because I'm unfortunately old enough to know why it's hilarious. Sorry if that upsets you enough to take cheap shots at me, but then again, you seem like the type of guy who goes around with his dukes up for absolutely no reason. Might wanna work on that. All I did was laugh at a joke. How old are you, exactly?
And for the record, "Trailer Park Superman" over here is friends with more f*ckin' millionaires than you are, most likely, so if "throwing shade" at ME makes you feel better about yourself, well, whatever gets you hard, jack.
........ And it's actually "RoxxStar Superman", by the way. Although "God of Thunder", "Icon Of Old-School", "Lord of Rock N Roll", "God Of Glam Rock", and "Rikki Raiden" are also acceptable depending on who's booking. In any case, next time you wanna heckle me, at least hold up your end and buy a goddamn T-shirt. It's only fair. That's what most people do. "Quid pro quo" and all that.
Have a nice day, work on your people skills.

Okay, didn’t need and essay. It’s the second time you were a dick. Just, stop being a dick.
I didn’t cancel the show, but it’s done. It wasn’t good I’m happy it’s over. Sanity prevails.
See, Short and sweet wins hearts and minds. Food for thought.

I am in no way being a dick to you, sir. Aside from one unwarranted cheap shot at me, you haven't given me any reason to be that way. I can see it going that way in the future, unfortunately, but that was entirely not my decision.
When I'm being a dick to people, I tell them I hope they get AIDS, and things of that nature. Everybody knows that, it's Day One stuff. And it's not just something I do, it's something they earn. We're not at that point, and hopefully we won't be.
As for winning hearts and minds, the fact that Jesus loves you means I don't have to worry about it.
Anyways, jokes aside, I am very sorry that you took me laughing at Powder's joke as an insult or personal attack. That was honestly not my intention. I found it funny by itself, not because he was talking to you. I wasn't even paying attention to who he was talking to until you addressed me, and that's a shoot, brother. This is me being sincere, and as polite as I can manage. Hopefully that's good enough.
Also, I do not care about this show, so I'm confused as to why you would mention it in the middle of your reply to me. I already told you that I don't like it either, so... eh?

I'm not into Rise that much because I prefer TMNT to be more serious. I still watch Rise because I like some things about it, but it's too kiddish for me, so i'm not bothered it's been cancelled and if Nick is working on something new then I'm excited.
When the 2012 show was on, Nick did say the show was over just before season 5 aired, so they should say that Rise is over.

On one hand, they haven't publicly said any such thing at this point in time. On the other, they so far haven't proudly announced any green lit 3rd season yet either while we're already about to go into the 2nd. :tconfuse:
And since a series takes time to create, you'd think they'd need to seriously be considering yay or nay very soon because if a 3rd was a thing then they'd need to get working on it soon? Unless season 2 does take a turn in tone and direction to some extent and they're waiting to get a feel for how that goes before deciding and just delay any decisions, etc.?
Also, gentlemen, please, what with the waving them around... think of the children!

All they need to do is make season 2 like the 2003 or 2012 or IDW . That what it needs to become a success and make me again the main villian instead of those silly mutants and magical creatures. In season 2 i will return and also Krang and tricertons will come to conquer the world. Season 7 of 2003 series wasnt as serious as the 6 season. And in 1987 series the last season was much more serious than the other 9 seasons. Which means a chance in tone can happen at any time.

I wouldn’t have said so otherwise. It’s not exactly a secret right now, so the question is, what the hell do they do next.
If I was a superfan, NOW would be the time to start campaigning hard for the show I want to see, and not bother patting the head of the deformed failure out of guilt or pity.
