View Full Version : Apparently Nick Toons Holland pulled the plug.

Last weekend saw the airing of the "Cloak and Swaggart" and "Jupiter Jim ahoy" episodes.

This time around, no mention of the "Rise" series on the website, no promo clips on the channel itself.

In addition, when walking into toy shops, I saw the "Rise" toys in the bargain bins already.

It was more sudden than I thought.

We've been pretty sure this show wouldn't continue for quite a while now, a foreign market pulling the plug isn't that weird.

It wouldn't be a bad move to move it to netflix, the 2012 show is there in some markets, the movie is really something, it should be out this year but is it only Rise? is it a crossover movie? If it's only rise it seems doomed to fail even on Netflix which for Netflix they might not want to carry any more tmnt stuff.

Does Rise have a niche online following at least? I also wonder if the writers knew this movie could be the last and that they weren't renewed for a S3, so at least it can work as some sort of series finale for this show.

It also has a sizable following on Twitter(with the creator of Hazbin Hotel singing its praise https://twitter.com/VivziePop/status/1207862062858289154) in fact the ladder scene is what made me give this show another chance and I'm glad I did. Also fun fact its has the 8th highest place on the TMNT subreddit with a flair in animation.

On-Topic I kinda knew this series wouldn't last even though I still hope this gets another season, even at the start when this show aired I kinda had a feeling this would be sort of a buffer between the Nick show and the next big thing where the creators could experiment more and for me the experiment worked and I'm glad we got a iteration that does its own thing instead of being a Frankenstein monster of everything that came before it. Heck I should be happy it got 52 episodes and a possible movie, most action shows I like don't get as many episodes(especially Motorcity which I consider RotTMNT to be a spiritual successor) and the fact we still have the reminder of season 2 still gets me hyped.

It ain't super popular with the TMNT fans now but give it a couple of years and I see it in the vein of Batman Brave and the Bold or The Looney Tunes Show an iteration that's hated at first but later people will enjoy it because it is more of a different take.

Another thing it did was removed the awful taste the later seasons of 2k12 left in my mouth so that's a plus.

So it's officially cancelled than? I hope the series has Leo become the leader at some point in season two, I'd hate to leave things as is. This may not have been my favorite version of Leo but the heck with leaving Raph as leader for a series LOL.

Yay, someone gets me. Same for me with Leo, most favorite ever. Sure, there's others (non-TMNT) I've liked to some degree over time, but no one comes close to this guy in all of my 40 years. :tcool:

While I have begrudgingly [not really quite] accepted Raph stealing Leo's job this go around (as throwing his normal personality and who he just normally is under the bus is a lot worse issue for me), it's stupid that they really haven't even made it matter. The thing they've done most with Raph as leader is just...repeatedly tell us that he is.

Side note... while this one seems to be slowly fading, even just today while stocking the greeting cards at one of the stores I do I got more in of a 2012 version TMNT kid b-day card. Go figure. Maybe they still have a lot, or maybe it sells good enough to continue keeping the license for it? Has a 2018 copyright, while that series was already over by then and 'Rise' starting.

The way I saw it was that in "Rise" we basically had the Raphael from the 2012 series' episode "New Girl in town" if he had succeeded in taking over the leadership role.

Because...

Mikey: Wow, we're totally losing!
Raph: Really, I hadn't noticed.
Mikey: Then get your head back into the game, you're supposed to be the LEADER!

Almost every scene during the fight against Snakeweed had the others reminding Raph that he leads the team.

I don't know if this makes sense or not, but Raphael's whole personality screams as a devil's advocate, but because of that impatient, angry side of him, he doesn't quite have what it takes to be a leader everyone can look up to. At the same time, Leo does have that perfect disposition and respect from his brothers to be the ideal leader, but because he is so in sync with his personal harmony, I can never see someone like him being a devil's advocate.

It's a combination of situations that kept the love alive. Main thing, while everyone in my life liked either Superman or Batman, this was a character that came out during my childhood, and stuck around for all of these years so it made keeping him a favorite easy. If there was a character back then that could challenge Raphael's top spot, it would have to be Thirty Thirty from the short running show BraveStarr.

You have more patience than me. I personally couldn't get into the show because I just didn't care for the animation look. Even then, I understand how frustrating it is to see characters not progress. These show runners need to understand that the TMNT franchise fairs better when it's treated more like Harry Potter than something like South Park.

I won't be surprised that Nick or whoever is in charge at the time, was using every means possible to squash the 2012 show so as to promote their new thing. I also noticed that happening with youtube in the past, when looking for anything TMNT, anything tied with whatever was new would be front and center, while trying to find anything to the 2003 or 80's renditions were not so easily found, even if the view count was very high.

Funny enough, my favorite TMNT MV was about 2003 Leonardo, to the song "Numb" from Linkin Park. I think it was called The Prodigal Son. Shame, it was on youtube for 8 years until finally copyright censors took it off.

There are spots where the animation looks decent enough, I guess, but there is so much of it that is sooo lacking. Assuming you jumped ship way before that ep the gif is from... see, the sad thing here is that while that may be a gif and one might fairly think it is the result of fewer frames like many gifs, that part of that ep literally looks exactly like that. There are so few unique frames in that piece, consisting on many repeats, I had a hard time hitting the print screen button in the right timing in the video to even get them. It's just such a wonderfully, fabulously disgusting example of why the TMNT should maybe not be shoehorned into being like all the other current cartoon trends. I know there are those that like it, and to each their own... but it's just not a good look for our boys. (I imagine any other Leo and Raph would possibly be mortified to even see this...)

I will never understand how that gif gives you so much trouble its just a goofy and funny gag that in context to the story actually make sense. As for repeating frames again its just a 5 second gif there isn't that much repeating going around compared to other cartoons from the 80s/90 also its not even the first show to have the turtles making funny faces the 2k12 turtles were guilty of this too. I don't know maybe its because I grew up with shows like Courage the Cowardly dog, Catdog and Looney Tunes I'm more use to it because for me this is just a light gag that I can't see anyone being troubled by.

FW Raphael was the sarcastic azzhole of the bunch, and I loved him for it. And with that said, he still wouldn't exactly make the best leader. Even then, is he really all that different from later incarnations? Heck, even in the 80's toon when interrogating Baxter, it was still Raphael that got him to talk by threatening to use his sai on him.

And I never did watch Rise to get a feel of the characters.

Yeah, the real MVPs of the franchise the last couple of years have been the comic book crossovers with the Power Rangers and Batman (which translated well to direct-to-video) as well as the IDW title in general. It even got people excited for a female Turtle again. If you focus more on that it's been a worthwhile distraction, though you still wish success of it's kind would translate to television

On the Dutch Nicktoons however, that's not the way they do things. They usually do reruns of the first season until the new episodes have been overdubbed and released.

This time, NO reruns, no promo spots, not even a single mention of the show having aired at all.

While I would agree, these days forums everywhere are dying and most people moved to all those places or youtube. It's where the fandom for almost anything is now.

IndigoErth

Although the median age bracket of Tumblr is what? I'm not sure that it really reflects the entire fanbase and more commonly a particular younger section of it? So it may not really explain where most of the old ones went if forums are no the thing anymore.

Twitter... maybe some older ones rely on it, but I'm guessing the format is better support for casuals. And with things like that the norm now, many just don't seem to have the patience or attention span for actual conversation anymore, which is a shame.

Reddit... from what I've seen lurking it sometimes, it surprises me how often users seem clueless about things we here had already long known about, so Reddit likewise in part seems a little more casual centered than here, though unlike other sources it seems like a mix of maybe semi-casuals and more serious fans...or growing fans.

I dunno, my guess is that a lot of the older main fanbase is just made up of busy adults these days that may just lurk a lot more than they interact. (Plus this place can be hard to get into, so...)

Note, I'm not discounting the younger section as less valuable as fans, just that I know that half of them (particularly in the Tumblr subset) are bound to wander off eventually.

I doubt forums will cease to exist for a long time though. There's always going to be those like us who actually want to discuss things, and short attention span platforms like Twitter are never going to be adequate.

The last airing of ROTTMNT on Nicktoons Holland was in the final weekend of 2019. I guess their thinking was "This hasn't worked, we'll air it one last time and when the new year starts drop it."

What's interesting though is that the 2012 series is not only in re-runs on Nicktoons Holland but also is aired three times a day, which was more often than Rise was ever shown.

Wow, at least someone still puts 2012 on. I rarely come across it now here. I hadn't expected it to disappear quite the way it has, but maybe they're just trying to force all the attention onto 'Rise.'

I do feel for 'Rise' fans if that branch of Nicktoons doesn't even bother to complete the season, but I guess a country that still cares about ratings ditching it says a lot.

Just looking at the link, I'm wondering if it's just that there is yet no schedule in these places rather than officially dropped. Like they are happy to air them much later. I know we were usually at least a month behind on the last show in season 5...though apparently we got season 4's finale before you guys? As for the finale arc, it was something like 6 months after the show ended, I didn't think they were going to bother airing.
4am airing seems weird though, glad they didn't do that with the last show.

What episodes were these countries up to? If they were behind, I'm wondering if they just simply got caught up and then decided to not bother with repeats and are waiting on any new ones rather than having pulled the series completely?

Plus that absurd 4am time slot... maybe it would just make more sense now to move the whole thing to Netflix and the Nick app (I assume they still have it on the app?), including whatever new ones they have sitting around waiting on a hiatus that's just giving it time to be forgotten and wind up dead in the water before it ends.

As much as this one has gotten the mental side-eye from me, it would still be a shame for it not to finish up its second season at least and show us what their ultimate intentions were for it story-wise.

What the next move be for TMNT on the small screen if it does indeed end with a drawn out season 2?

Did the announcement of a straight to Netflix animated film mention that it would be Rise of the TMNT or can be an original or focus on a previous incarnation?

weird the series didn't even last 2 years. It debuted in 2018 and by 2020 it's already over. They'll probably just burn through the unaired episodes all in a row at some point.

When the strongest argument for it from the beginning was, "It's for little kids, you're not supposed to have an opinion on it," the writing was already on the wall.

Given how most of the people who liked it were in fact middle-aged adults themselves, that line was always highly questionable, to me. The unspoken full sentence was, "If you HATE it, you have no right to an opinion because it's just for little kids anyway, but if you LIKE it then there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a middle-aged adult who has strong opinions about kids' cartoons." And that just seemed really wacky. Like, it's okay to have an opinion as long as it's positive, otherwise you're a loser with misplaced priorities.

I'm on record, I won't miss it. We'll see what the next re-re-reboot brings us. Although I'm not super-excited for that, either.

The plots of the later episodes (Such as a pre-mutation Master Splinter having been in a relationship with Big Mama) were clearly aimed at a more adult audience anyway.

I wonder what Nickelodeon thinks of being "A little kids audience" anyway?

When that first preview picture of "Rise" showed up the general consensus was "It's too soon." They had a MASSIVE hit with the 2012 series and that series was still airing when "Rise" was being put forward.

They shot themselves in the Foot when not giving it the time to let the dust settle. They should at least have waited a full year before bringing it out.

The fact that both series aired side by side (At least in my country) also was more nails in the coffin.

From the Ninja Pizza Facebook page
TMNT fan and toy collector Vaughn Michael (@collector.13 on Instagram) contacted Playmates Toys, asking about the future of the Rise of the TMNT toy line. The response he received was surprisingly forthcoming, stating that there will be NO Rise of the TMNT toys in the new year, and that they will instead be focusing on "classic" TMNT.

"If you HATE it, you have no right to an opinion because it's just for little kids anyway, but if you LIKE it then there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a middle-aged adult who has strong opinions about kids' cartoons."
Brutal honesty, right there.

I mean, I don't care if some like a thing I don't. But it's not okay for either side of that kind of argument to expect an echo chamber that allows only opinions that match theirs. And sure, plenty of adults who don't like it have a strong opinion on a kid's show, too, but with a franchise this old that could benefit from not ignoring the older fanbase who has loved it long term, it's a bit hard not to have an opinion to some extent on how our green buds are being handled.

The plots of the later episodes (Such as a pre-mutation Master Splinter having been in a relationship with Big Mama) were clearly aimed at a more adult audience anyway.
And that's part of its problem to begin with (aside from the detested ideas/changes it made), is that this just feels like a series that hasn't really known what it actually wants to be.

You want to be a series that focuses on one-shot episodes, fine, but don't tease an arc that you're only going to spend 10% of the series on; instead maybe just stick to one-shots that are a full half hour long so there is time enough for something that was worth watching. You want to be a series for little kids, then make the Turtles actually seem younger. Because they really don't, they just seem stupider; yet visually look older than the 2012 set, imo.

Ultimately, I'm not going to believe this thing is done until there is something official about that or the second season runs out, since right now it's all hearsay and based on scheduling choices which Nick tends to be stupid about anyhow. Maybe the 2nd got the plug pulled early and won't finish being made(?), but there's undoubtedly unaired episodes left sitting there collecting dust for whatever reason. Just put them on already and get it over with. Pulling the band aid off this slow isn't going to do it any good.

If they insisted on a new series that soon... personally, I've have still loved to see a 2D one that directly or roughly was a continuation of 2012 with a new art style and Turtles who were a bit older at that point. That might have gone over well. But 'Rise' was too abrupt of a change too soon.

Lol, this whole forum is cringe, just trying to fit in.

Back in October, the decision was made to pull back on Rise, with the rational that Rise had been brought in “too soon”, with 2012 being still warm, and not quite in the rear view. Nothing magical or interesting here, aside from the group think that the problem with Rise was it’s timing, with nobody admitting fault anywhere else, despite knowing looks.

The production staff blame you, the fans, much like some members here, of not being open to something new, and in their view “better”.
They are now convinced that the public needs a break, so it will be a while before they move forward on a new linear.

Meanwhile, a new game is imminent.

I can certainly believe most to all of that, but frankly I think DC has enough of their own problems without taking on any new ones.

Like Star Wars, TMNT has definitely taken a few lumps over the past decade thanks to a combination of oversaturation and bad decisions by "corporate", and is therefore now a damaged brand even though it remains popular and familiar. But it would be a questionable decision for DC to try and acquire it in my opinion. It might be a little tarnished but it would still cost a fortune and DC is eternally in cost-cutting mode, even when their business is good, which it isn't right now.

Stranger things have happened and I definitely wouldn't be mad about it, but that part just seems unlikely to me. Rise being cancelled and the whole franchise being put on a shelf to cool off for 5+ years while they just pump out toys based on older, more popular versions of the Turtles in order to keep a little money coming in, though, yeah that's almost definitely what's going to happen. I just don't see DC buying it, or even wanting to.

If Nick did end up selling to DC it may be good for older fans.

After the success of Joker, and if Birds of Prey does well, then WB may be open to a more adult/Mirage inspired movie. The flip side of that is that DC's films can be very hit or miss and WB is notoriously bad at taking a risk unless others have already proved it can work. And if it fails that will likely be it until a director approaches them with a vision they like (see Superman).

Even if they didn't do that for the big screen there's a very big chance we'd get them in animated form with direct to DVD movies. This is the most exciting prospect of a sale to DC/WB.

New animated series would be almost certain. Tone depends if they put in on Cartoon Network or DC Universe (or HBOMax since DC Universe seems to be dying).

Best guess would be we'd get a series aimed at kids for CN and then some direct to DVD animated movies aimed at older fans (hopefully Mirage or IDW inspired). Film I could see going either way. I imagine they'd try and find a middle ground, ideally like the first film but that may be wishful thinking.

Given the two films Paramount put out and the rapid decline of Rise, this would almost certainly be an improvement. Not that there's anything stopping Nick doing animated films aimed at older fans, or the next movies and cartoons having a better creative direction.

The biggest loser would be the comics. You would never get a run like IDW's over at DC. Hopefully they'd keep the TMNT as their own separate universe if it did happen. The Batman crossovers were fun but I don't need the TMNT as part of the Teen Titans on a regular basis. And I just don't want IDW's run cut short.

DC is circling the drain as it is. Mommy AT&T could very well pull the plug on THEM at any moment, so they're busy trying to justify their own existence through their current IP's (of which they have not been doing a great job). I doubt DC has the cash or inclination to take a risk on something different right now.

There’s very likely a sequel to the Batman/TMNT crossover movie being made. But beyond that likely nothing else. The comic crossovers with Batman are done too with the most recent one pretty much wrapping everything up and DC calling it the conclusion of the trilogy.

It knows exactly what it wants to be, its a light hearted action show with some moments of continuity similar to something like KND or Adventure Time also its definitely more than 10% I know you're probably exaggerating though, another thing is that the run time is fine for this series I mean do you really want 22 minutes of "Mind Meld" or "Todd Scouts" not every episode needs to be half an hour.

Well that would be ironic. Given their aim of targeting a new generation of kids. Only have themselves to blame if they failed on that front.)

If DC does buy TMNT.

Will IDW will able to continue the comic book series
I want TMNT to be there own thing, not have a crossover with all the DC characters all the time, only do it for specials.
Hopefully a mature animated series/animated movie DVD specials or a mature live action series
A decent Live action movie, hopefully Paramount/Platinum Dunes won't be involved.

IndigoErth
02-05-2020, 01:35 PM
A film company other than Platinum Dunes would be a plus at least.

Though I'd worry about the Turtles getting lost in a sea of other characters should a company like DC ever buy them. With the little bit of a "friendship" they seem to have developed, I've wondered if DC might one day take them on, but I'd rather see them remain as just guest characters who show up to play in DC products now and then. Funner that way. I'd rather the Turtles remained their own thing detached from the other superhero brands and had the freedom to go play in crossovers with whoever "they" want sometimes.

But if our boys can't get much in the way of decent live action films of their own, it would be cool to see them get to join in a DC one.

Side note, I sort of envy the people who may see them enter public domain someday, belonging to no one and everyone and free for anyone to create works (beyond just fan stuff). (Though an expired copyright might mean they'd been forgotten so I guess that's got a down side.)

Sorry TommyT, this is nothing against you personally but I just can't see that as credible.

Viacom selling TMNT to AT&T/WB/DC is questionable but I could at least see it in as an out there possibility. Disney buying DC just isn't happening. Even if AT&T/WB are (currently) terrible at exploiting them, they know the DC IPs are a goldmine. They screwed up putting Snyder in charge but then they turned round and made a billion each on Aquaman and Joker. Just yesterday they announced that DC Films would be making movies for HBOMax. They're not going to giftwrap them and sell them to the competition. Plus I'm no legal expert but I'm sure monopoly laws would likely come into play as well if DC and Marvel were under one roof.

If they ALL pooled their money, they might have a shot at it. Otherwise I don't see it.

If Nick paid like $60 million then I can't see them letting go of it for much less. I mean if anything they've increased the dollars-and-cents value of the brand over what it was ten years ago, even if the overall reputation has taken a hit. I'd have to check but I'm almost positive that the TMNT brand has brought in more profits between 2010 and 2020 than it did between 2000 and 2010, so if anything Nick would probably ask for more than what they paid, citing how they "saved" it by making it more profitable even if critical reception has been mixed.

I don't see Dark Horse or the others having that kinda cash sitting around. They also wouldn't have the luxury of an entire multimedia empire like Nick; what's their track record with launching, managing and sustaining TV shows, movies, and toys on the level of what Nick has done with TMNT? Comic books are one thing, but TMNT is a "brand" that has a lot of moving parts in other areas; that leaves Nick, Disney/Marvel, and DC/WB as the only ones truly fit to be "caretakers" on the level of what would be required.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Can't help the skepticism. Too many people out there these days enjoy peddling dis/misinformation and throwing anything against the wall so that they can claim to have been "right" or appear to know things should something stick.

And, to be honest, your knowledge seems a little unusually broad. So then...what, you know guys at/near the top of the company who often discuss things while you're in the room? You're not afraid your ass will be toast for talking about insider info that isn't announced? And if you're so close to the info, what's the news on that Netflix 'Rise' movie and that next PD film we haven't heard anything more about in a year?

Alright, fair questions. No, I don’t work at Nick, so no, I’m not concerned about getting in trouble. Yes I know some that do. I’m not breaking any laws or getting anybody in trouble. There is gossip, I’ve decided to share. It’s as broad as gossip usually is.

I don’t have contacts who know Brad Fuller or his team. It’s not being shared right now. There is no Rise feature in production at this time. Plans were made, it’s not moving forward.
I’m of the opinion, right or wrong, that at this point, Turtle fans have been abused, by Michael Bay, by Nick, and by Playmates. I don’t agree with the gatekeepers, so I’m happy to give the fandom a heads up.

All this proved is that if the 1987 series was made today ti wouldnt be succesful. Rise is much worse than 1987. The next series must be like 2003 2012 and IDW to be succesful. And that will happen and you dont need Tom T to say it from his sources but you all know that soon there wil be another series as dark and serious. as these ones were/are.

Back in October, the decision was made to pull back on Rise

Nov. 13th

Netflix and Nickelodeon today announced that they have formed a new, multi-year output deal to produce original animated feature films and television series... Also forthcoming are specials based on The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I mean, maybe plans could have since changed in the past almost three months, but if in October they decided to pull back on 'Rise,' then how was a Netflix movie still a part of the equation come that November announcement by Netflix?

Rise killed TMNT for the foreseeable future. I'd be more focused on that, and who it was that championed that garbage, and put the brand in a coma.

Glad they got to mock us for two years, totally worth it to put the boys on ice. Yay for shills!

I'd be giving myself away if I gave you more detail. What I can say is, they don't want to upset the applecart pre Christmas sales, if you get my drift. It takes anywhere from 6months to a year to get product to market, especially when you involve manufacture overseas. If they had announced Rise was over, when it WAS over, how would that impact sales for the next two months? Walmart and friends who had bought product would be very, very angry.

While I agree with your point about the business decision and wanting to milk the money still viable in the product, its hard to believe your insider info. I do hope you can say, "I told you so". Rise is alienating the fanbase and they tried a different direction. Judging by the firing of Biggs and keeping it quiet until the episode that aired the same time the series premiered, it was at the halfway point of the way through production of the second season when the series first hit the airwaves. That being said Biggs firing to appease angry fans and parents was kept quiet so not to produce any more ripples on sales. It also reveals that products are produced a long time in advance before figures come in as if the audience is buying into the direction. Hoping for a better direction and something for everyone next time out.

take everything with a grain of salt, sure. They still haven't officially said Rise is over, have they. Unless you're paying close enough attention, it's not obvious.

My bigger concern, is that the blame is being misplaced. This isn't the part I want people to take with a grain of salt.
This is the part where I want you to get angry. I want you to let them know very loudly that TMNT would be FINE, but they F*CKED UP.

The fans need to make it clear that it wasn't "too soon", it was "GARBAGE CONTENT" with "GARBAGE ARTISTS".
when people talk about how great the animation was, they are lying. They are misrepresenting the problem.
The minority of cal arts twits can not be allowed to slink away, shoulders shrugged, or worse, point fingers. They killed the brand, like Bay before them.

I don't know about that. I think it may have to do with a generation gap. personally I at first didn't like the 2012 series but it grew on me after the first 10 episodes. this show has as well, my only real complaint is things are too crammed into the episodes. now if they were half hour episodes the writing, direction, and action would be completely different. the person that made that decision I do blame. as for the artistry each series has been done and designed by different studios and different methods of animation styles. i'm not lying, I just enjoy something you don't. as the old saying goes "to each his own".

I know that between the two of them, I'm convinced that Nick just doesn't have any idea what to actually do with the franchise, and are just chasing trends hoping to find one that will stick.

Because they don't warrant being longer and would be intolerable otherwise. They're the type of hyjinks you get in short format cartoons. Snowday is something you'd get out of a standard Tom and Jerry short. Though I should ask, have you enjoyed the few half hour episodes?

I pretty much like most of the episodes and the ones I don't like are based on their own quality rather for their run time. One of the strengths of the 11 minute format Rise has is that they can have episodes that are less high stakes and more slice of life esque episodes without them feeling padded in some places(cough 2012 cough). An addition to the mentioned it also brings great world building to the show, New York in this series feels more densely populated and alive than in the 2k3/2k12 where in those shows its basically empty half of the time but in something like Rise you can have the enemy distracted by a group of people partying on a boat. Going back to the slice of life episodes it also gives more dimensions to the villains in one episode you can have someone like Repo Mantis fighting the turtles in another you can have him teaming up with the turtles to cage his mutant cat/mantis pet.

Interesting indeed.

Even playing off the idea that Tommy’s source is reliable, I’d say the idea of putting the shows on ice could be a good thing. Isn’t there the possibility that they still license it out to Neca, Paramount, Konami etc on the meantime? The info is vague so I suppose we don’t have the answer. But if that were the case, maybe the handholding would therefor cease, as TMNT is placed on the Viacom backburner, somewhat out of mind.

I’m getting into really choppy waters, but the fact is we don’t even have enough of a rumor to know what this could mean for other branches of the franchise.

The only thing that's on hold right now are the linears - meaning shows or films. Apparently they're working on what to do next, but also shopping for options, so while the future of TMNT is on hold, anything from the back catalogue is not.
It should be understood that Viacom only holds the IP - other companies actually make the goods, so this is how everything grinds to a hault. without the central "vision" the licensees can't really get a foothold on the direction the brand is going, so making product becomes difficult, if not impossible.
For example, if you wanted to license Rise turtles, for your clothing company, you might think twice if the new cartoon has a vastly different look/feel. by the time you get to market with Rise donatello on your socks and shirts, the "new" tmnt might be out, or advertised, and despite your product being brand new, it's now old.

Now, if it's true that they felt Rise came out too soon, there is little chance they'll actively be looking to make that same mistake again.

So for the time being, Classic tmnt is a safer bet, as a known representation of the brand, so if anything, this is what will be seen.

If you want real gossip, the latest is that DC itself may fold into Disney, with a Merger of DC and Marvel.

Sounds absurd, but I've heard this twice in the last two weeks. Hard to imagine, but it's apparently only DC, and their IP's.

I can only assume they'll air the rest of season 2 sometime in Spring. Nick has been very quiet with this show for the past few months now.

It makes sense. Not suggesting Mirage would by it back but I wonder what has become of them these days, are they still around?

I have no idea as to the legitimacy of that website, but it does add up. Very interesting that they could be announcing the next iteration this Spring, which actually goes against what Tommy T. has been hearing - If I remember correctly.

They really need to more or less adapt IDW with "Last Airbender" quality animation. Make it a showpiece for the whole channel and whatever streaming service you will inevitably get picked up by or create.

I teach primarily 14 to 16 year olds. They love anime and action cartoons still. A overheard a conversation towards the end of class today. Students were bashing the ridiculous farce called "Teen Titans Go!" and said for some reason these creators think it is cool to crap it on other shows like TMNT. I can't sit through Rise". Asking me knowing I overheard them, they know I like TMNT, growing up with the 1987 cartoon. I told them I watched two episodes. Even giving it a second change with a villain team up was not enough and yes I could see the undfortunate TTG! direction and could not stand it. I know its just four 15 year olds, but that is what they think of Rise, "a TTG influenced crapfest that was unneccessary".

Given they're teenagers I assume those kids grew up with the Nick 2012 series? Did they see the previous two shows?

The 2012 cartoon and the 1987 cartoon through DVDs and watchcartoononline due to parents influence and the teases of it in the 2012 cartoon.

They loved Teen Titans and Justice League.

To get back on topic. I was in a book store today and saw the latest edition of Nick magazine, so I picked it up and started leafing through it, it had comics and games of all current shows of Nicktoons Holland.

EXCEPT Rise.

Apparently they want everybody to forget the series even existed.

On-topic: It reminds me of the lack of advertising and placing it at 10pm with Justice League once it became Unlimited. The last two episodes were held off to the point a season finale (season 3) aired and the season premire (season 4) aired consecutive weeks after an odd hiatus.. Remember when the 2003 series started in February and episodes 19-26 were aired up to the first part of "The Big Brawl" in season 2. The three remaining episodes should have been aired or Big Brawl part 1 withheld. Some time its poor decisions of marketing a series. It could be that.

toys didnt sell as expected, strange questions.
Cartoons for kids nowadays are like ads for toys, nothing beyond that.

That was case from 1982-1993 from He-Man to Power Rangers.

Another incarnation already? Yeesh. It's like these people have never heard the term franchise fatigue.

I'll miss Rise. It was too weird to live, I barely felt the need to catch it when it aired, and the TMNT fan in me really can't justify the changes they made, but as an animation fan I loved the art style, energy, and legitimate risk-taking, especially after the latter half of the 2012 show.

I think it's a shame they didn't at least finish the season. But alas that's how things go.

Something else though, I started a new "Rise" comic called "Quiet Time" I'd like your comments on it. I'll send you a link through a PM.

While I always happy to review and help fellow mega fans, I don't know. I really wanted to think "its okay", but Rise does not interest me. If the incarnation your work is based on does not interest me than I don't want to dislike what you are doing because I dislike the basis of what you are using.

I dropped four songs into your How Did It Get To This Point Thread.

I was just about to post that, Autbot. Nice.

My source said they were actively seeking new ideas, but that nothing is expected in the near future.

Thats all I have right now. I maight have more next week.

DC rumblings continue.

Any news in regards to video games?

Apparently, it will be officially shown at E3, (no surprise there), but I've heard it's possibly the announcemet you'll see in the spring, not a new show.

I'll know more in a few weeks.

And i will be final boss of the game! I will upload some gameplay where ibeat the turtles! It will be based on Rise and since i was in the last episode of the show i will be the last boss there too. But it will be the only game due to how fast Rise ended with not even 2 complete seasons. Unlike the 2012 and previous shows who had much more games as all of them lasted for more than 5 seasons. WB will not buy TMNT. DC is very profitable for them on movies comics and video games they dont have the money and dont need to buy TMNT. Remeber the rumor about Microsoft buy ea? Nothing happend.
As for the show here what i can tell you as i have all the information from My sources because iam THE SHREDDER.
Dont trust Tom . I know evrything because i am the one making the series as it is about my adventures and my fight against those monsters the turtles.

I will be human again and my foot ninjas will be human in the begining. My story with hamato yoshi will be similar to the 2012 and mirrage comics but i cant tell you in detail,
Utroms will be the ones who will make the mutagen again.
Krang will have an adopted human girl daughter in this series similar to me having Karai for so long. But uniike Karai this girl is a scientist and will be around 18 years old. This is the first time that Krang will do something like this. He will live with her in abandoned castle somewhere in Scotland but it will be transported into a high tech lair with Utrom technology that he took when he left his planet after it got destroyed and he came to earth with Technodrome.
Late in the series i will kill Splinter again like i did in 2012 and IDW.
I will have a new second in command mutant henchman but will also have Hun Bebop and Rocksteady work for me.
I will live in a big skycraper similar to the one in 2003 series.
Later in the series i will get robotic ninajs from Krang and his adopted girl.
Krang robot body looks like the one from 1987 series.
The series will be as serious as the 2003 series was
It will have many episodes based on IDW but it will not be entirely based on IDW.

The episodes will continue next week or in 2 weeks and the game will be announced later. E3 is canceled but now all a company needs to do to announce a game, is to release a trailer on youtube and evryone will see it.

I wonder if Donnie will ever reconsider that mystic bow staff at some point since he's the only one that cannot utilize any mystic powers. Will the show ever touch upon that? Like, do an episode where he finally gets envious of his brothers' mystic abilities. It seems to be content with just letting three of the four turtles pull off mystic powers.

IndigoErth

Given this Donatello's personality, it would kind of make sense...and then go too far in trying to outdo them by not only taking up the mystic staff but attempting to "improve" it.

edit: Hmm. Also sorta says a lot that there is no nomination for it in the KCA, unlike last year, it's only time. (Meanwhile 2012 was in there often...)
