I dislike the idea of villains teaming up. 98% of every villain ever has always been in it for their own selfish reasons. There are a few villains who are driven by their own idea of helping others (think Thanos from Infinity War) so the idea that two or more villains teaming up seems counterproductive to me.

I strongly agree with this! I loved during the fallout from "KnightFall" when Joker and Scarecrow briefly tried to have a "team-up" only for it to immediately implode. That was awesome!

People motivated purely by self-interest generally don't play well with others. You really gotta "sell" it in order for it to make any sense.
