It's been just barely one year since I spotted this. Anybody else ever notice? Ever been posted before?

It's the first act of Once Upon a Time Machine, the second episode of the 5th season. I have never noticed the inappropriate language graffiti before and unless I am forgetful it has never been openly addressed by eagle eyed fans of the cartoon.

The existence of the graffiti was actually an acknowledged plot point for that scene of "Once Upon a Time Machine." April is doing a story on subway crime and graffiti and the city officer actually gets "assaulted" on camera.

There's quite a bit of naughty/violent phrases and images on the subway wall (syringe needles, weapons, human stick figures like a dead body, rival gang names, etc.) but that first photo is probably the most noticeable. I suppose one could argue the animators were going for "authenticity," but I'm also guessing most of the questionable words were intended to be covered up with a cel or otherwise obscured through fast motion.

Well, that one wouldn't have aged well...

Fortunately, there's a slightly better shot of it and I don't think it says that:

Uhhhhhhh...nope. Can't say I ever noticed that. :tlol: "F*** you" and "circle jerks"? Wow. lol That beats anything Disney ever tried to slip into theirs. FW TMNT just went for it, and all these years of people underestimating that show. The one series that's still providing things to discover after all these years.

I think that episode was done by the Dublin Studio. Probably the shoddiest animated work of all the studios employed. But apparently they had a pretty good grasp on English to know all the most offensive expressions.

I assume BS&P never pay attention to animated backgrounds then...

These are surprising. I do not remember how fast these shots appeared on screen but theyre so clear.

If theyve really only been discovered recently could they edit them out of DVD sets? Not that they should just wondering.

Nick does not technically own the FW cartoon right? I could see them editing them if they made their own OT release.

What if he's Hans Gruber?

Anybody who f*cks with Bruce Willis can't be a GOOD man. Not even if the thing you said is true.

And now we're in a paradox.

Heh, that might require actual work in regards to the digital editors, so....

At the very least, the context of the episode acknowledges the graffiti as a bad thing.

I find myself wondering...

If the walls of the tunnel and the grafitti on them were basically transposed from reference photos of the New york subway, which is possible, and uncritically - maybe even obliviously - those immortal messages like **** you and Circle Jerk were included, is that less naughty than if the artists actually spent time coming up with the grafitti from their own heads?

They could blur them out, but that would just draw attention and make people curious about something they most likely wouldn't have noticed anyway.

I'm smoking a cigarette right now, so I don't want to shove your dick down my throat at the moment, but you're one of my favorite posters on this board. I consider your comment to be praise of the highest order. I shall try to maintain such quality in my future posts.

Circle Jerks is the name of a punk band, I wonder if that particular tag might be a reference to the band? I don't know enough about them to be certain.
