View Full Version : Why has Shadow never made it outside of Mirage comics?

I was just thinking almost all of the prominent Mirage characters have been adapted in some form or another in other media except Shadow. Given the slightly more mature nature of the '03 show they could have adapted Casey's part in City At War and adopting baby Shadow at the end of the episode. In Same As It Never we could have seen teenage ninja Shadow instead of or as well as older April as leader of the resistance. I'm suprised she didn't get at least a shout out in Fast Forward as part of the Jones/O'Neil family tree.
Likewise she could have been shown up in some form in the 2012 show. I doubt they'd adapt a story of a pregnant singleton dying in childbirth but Casey could adopt her by other means or show up in a time travel story. We haven't seen her or any sign she will ever show up in the IDW book.
So what's the deal?

I think because most kiddie spinoffs want to keep Casey and April youngish. Saddling him with a kid makes him not youngish.

It's probably impossible to do without a timeskip, and most other cartoons/comics end after a few years.

Well, the "Jones" character in Last Ronin might be a version of Shadow, we'll just have to see if that's actually the case.
As for why she isn't a character outside of Mirage, Casey and April are usually either depicted as being too young when it typically comes to being parents, or the versions simply don't last long enough to explore that aspect.

Yeah I don't think any other version gets "far enough" into their lives to get to Shadow, really.

There is some good points here. Although I think the '03 show could have pulled it off. Casey and April were fully grown adults on the show and they pretty much knew season 4 was going to be their last traditional season before retooling the show and the Ninja Tribunal made a point to show Casey as grown up when he opts to stay and protect April rather than go in on the main action. What better way to hammer that point than give him a child?
We know they were 99% certain that BTTS was going to be their last season and made it a point to show April and Casey as an engaged and finally married couple. Would have been fitting to give them an adopted child. Even an easter egg in FF would have done.
And yes any time travel story in 4kids, IDW and Nick would have been a great opportunity to use her.
It's pretty much a definite that the female biker in The Last Ronin is going to Casey's daughter maybe she'll be called Shadow as someone suggested.

Shadow could have existed in 2k3, remember Cody was their great grandson if I remember right, we never did find out who April/Casey's kids were, right?
But Cody is clearly has the genes of April at the very least, Shadow was adopted so it doesn't work out.
