Simple question Should the turtles have secondary weapons besides their main weapons? For example like how in the 2012 series while Leo still used his dual swords but on occasions we do see him use a bow and arrow. I think they should have secondary weapons since it fits with what Splinter told them about using different weapons like ninjas in real life use all kinds of different weapons besides a certain one.

So besides asking the first question, what would be your choices for each turtles secondary? Mine choices would be:

Leonardo: Bow and Arrow

Raphael: Tonfas or Metal claws (like Shredder)

Donatello: Kusarigama (I don't know it's hard thinking of one Donny)

Michelangelo: Twin Sickles

Yes, I love the idea of secondary weapons, The Next Mutation also played around with this idea.

Don's secondary weapon is his brain.

Michelangelo’s secondary weapon in the CBS Saturday morning cartoon was the grappling hook.

Wasn't Mikey's secondary weapon the Kusarigamain the 2012 cartoon? I feel that fits him well. Better than Donny anyway?

The problem with secondary weapons is that they can't go around carrying too much stuff. I'm not sure how many weapons a real ninja is supposed to have, it probably depends on the mission.

I wouldn't mind seeing them all make more use of throwing stars.

Yeah I know but it was kind of hard to think of a weapon for Donnie. But I remembered the Kusarigamain and I thought that Donnie could come with crazy ways to use to trap people or attack them. Plus I always feel that Donnie should have a close range weapon since if his opponent can get pass his bo-staff it's usually over for him that I chose that weapon for him so not only does he still have range thanks to chain and ball. But he also has a weapon for close range too.

I'm all for it. It's kind of always been a thing, in some fashion. Virtually all iterations have shown it directly or implied that they do have alternatives.

I'd always like to see the Ninja Turtles do more ninja stuff.... like climbing walls with the spikey palms tools. Using a bow and arrow to complete a task from time to time.

I've always thought this too... especially considering the 87 toon figures came with shuriken. I think the more ninja related items/tactics they use, the better the characterization is going to be.

To echo others here, they need climbing claws and other tactical tools too.

I'd say shuriken and kunai blades, plus of course, the ability to adapt and use any other weapon they happen to get their hands on during a battle. Though I did like Don and Mikey's upgraded weapons from 2012.

That's one thing that never gets explored enough... outside of Mirage of course...

The TMNT identities are so defined by the weapons they carry that we rarely see them use anything else. So, like, if Leo is without his blades, he often is not depicted in battle. We need to see more of the boys adapting to their surroundings and using whatever else is at their disposal.

The 2012 show had them using different weapons now and again. Raph used Tonfa, Kama scythes, brass knuckles, kunai and an axe. Leo used a bow and arrow, and a spear. They used a Yumi Bow and shuriken. In the opening two-parter of season 1, they scaled the walls using the spikey hand tools.

The funniest part is when some episodes of both the OT and 2K3, possible 2012 but I forget, is they kinda treat their weapons like their super power. Like, they're completely helpless if a bad guy disarms them momentarily.

It's even funnier cause when they get their weapons back, Leo and Raph start doing kicks and whatnot (since they can't actually stab humans in the cartoons) which they could have done anyway....

Reminds me of the old Zelda cartoons where Link would use his sword to zap things. He got tricked in an ep with a sword that can't zap and acted as if he was completely helpless despite the fact he should still be able to swing the sword like... a sword.

HAH! Yeah, that was super weird.

Donnie: "I'm now totally helpless because someone swatted my simple wooden broomstick out of my hands! What ever will I do NOW?"

I kinda think even I could've beaten up the FW Turtles. Granted, my Finish is like, Amazing.

I liked their Vision Quest gear in 2012 series and was hoping that would've stuck. But then again, seeing how many people bitched about Mike and Don "losing" their weapons before it was revealed that they were just mode changes (and people STILL bitching when they didn't watch the show because of that and missed out on that part), I'd hate to see how whiners would have reacted to that.

IDK Leo..... taking a steaming hot pizza to the face isn't quite fun... and then you'd trip over one of the other turtles who was on all fours behind you to trip you up. Plus those ****ers could throw manhole covers like they were nothing.

Yeah I forgot about that too.

I don't remember people complaining about Mikey's tonfa in Next Mutation but I guess they had more important things to focus on lol

I would imagine they all carry utility weapons anyway. Knives, shuriken, tetsubishi, ect.

I enjoyed Mike and Don's Kusarigama and naginata in 2K12.
