Very cool interview! LeS sounds like a really cool person. I hope I can meet him at a comic con someday!
Reading things like these make me realize how cruel the comic industry is. People like Lesean who don't read comic books, and never had much of anything to do with the ninja turtles will land a spot as penciler of a TMNT book, while the equaly talented fans of the series if they can make it, will never see a TMNT production first hand.
Please note- no disrespect to Lesean.
TMNT is cooler than MOTU

THOMAS: Yeah, I thought the cartoon was so gay because they went from these bad-ass sewer dwellers in NYC, to them all sounding like Sean Penn from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." With this unnecessary need for pizza.

no disrespect to you, nate. But i had no idea a freelance artist who's hired to
draw a licnesed property because his/her style fits the said property, delivers on time monthly, garunteed, with quality, HAD to be a blind, hard core fan of it in order to fit the bill. If i recall, up till this revlation of me not reading the comics hard core (granted, i AM an ANIMATOR and, by the way, missed my opportunity to actually ANIMATE for the new cartoon series -i am great friends with the voice actor of leo on the tv series, and am great working buddies with one of the head artists in the layout department- because i ACCEPTED to pencil the comic version) you were one of my biggest supporters  on these forums.
also, DW has submissions for "equally talented fans" here on the forums, so submit away, i may or may not be back after issue 12 :) ( anythings possible) surely your tainted image of the perfect set-up for your beloved franchise will be salvaged.
i mean, no disrespect to you nate. the industry is indeed an evil cruel empire. lol :D i would like to beleive, given the books numbers, sell-out runs, the overall satisfaction of the series, attention to specific detail and understanding of the characters having grown up with them as a child of the 80s, and the writer, whith un unnerving understanding of the gang in just 6 issues of never having to given TMNT attention until convinced by his daughter to do it, i'd believe this series is in good hands....stark raving mad, blind TMNT fanatic or not.lol. :D

Who cares how much he followed the TMNT before he took the gig. He would have been stupid to pass on it. And I think he's shown well enough that he fits right into it all excellently. Not just with his (awesome) pencils on the book, but by the fact that he reads and posts on these forums. And he got so excited to read about a new TMNT series from Mirage (Tales of the TMNT) that he jumped and posted a new thread about it, not realizing there was already a thread.
LeSean rocks! :)

I think LeSean's right. He worked his butt off to get where he is today, and I respect that. Whether or not he's had prior experience with the TMNT shouldn't affect the present. He's an amazing artist, and I love his rendition of the turtles. :anime:
Everyone's gotta start somewhere. If a TMNT fan truly wanted to contribute to a TMNT project, then he'll need to start at the bottom. Work your way up to get that dream job. With some skill and a bit of luck, it's possible.

Dreamwave has nothing against hiring fans. They hired Don and Guido to work on Transformers, for instance. But honestly, I have yet to find any serious TMNT fan art that's as good as their Transformers art. An yeah, that's including mine.
