I have this idea for a back story of Krang, I'd like you guys' input.

Well, my comic "the full 80%" is chugging along nicely and I'm about to hit the 190'th page and I figured that I should make the upcoming chapter about how Krang became how he is now and his backstory with Kraang Prime and Kraang Subprime.

Krang and Kraang Subprime together in the crossover episode. Where it is revealed that they are cousins and obviously have a shared battle history.

So here's what I'm thinking.
Kraang Subprime was formerly Knight and part of the Utrom High Council.
- What if Krang was part of the Utrom High council as well, what if he was King?
- What if as King, he was a great warrior and strategic mind?
It would explain why Kraang Prime would have worked with King and Knight as his two lieutenants to overthrow the Utrom High council and enslave the Utroms as The Kraang.

As for how King became "the screw up" that is Krang, I also have quite the idea for that but I'm not going to spoil it right now.

But what do you guys think of the idea?

I like it! As others I am sure, I like the idea of Krangs back story as well. The Ninja Turtles are so fixiated on the story of Splinter and Shredder. It would be nice to get a backstory (or two) on Krang.

I wouldn't exactly describe his backstory as "fascinating" in either the Fred Wolf show or the Nicktoon's attempt to make revisions to it. It's contradictory and full of holes, which at best makes it confusing. Maybe it's interesting as a case study in bad writing but not as an actual element of his character.

I'm not sure Krang is really worth giving an elaborate backstory to in the first place if I'm being honest. The fact that he's really only a major character in one of the six TV shows and only appears in one of the six movies (seven if you count the Batman crossover). Even the Archie comics, the ones originally meant to be a tie-in to the Fred Wolf show, drops the pretense of him being important after seven appearances. I know people thinks he's kind of a bigger deal than he really is because he shows up so much in the Fred Wolf cartoon but the truth is, the franchise mostly consists of stories where he's either not around much or even a part of to begin with.

If Shredder is the Green Goblin of the TMNT franchise, then Krang is the Jackal, just some confusing character who gets shoehorned in because he's pseudo-relevant and barely fits in. Just make him some random Utrom Criminal who shows up in filler stories, he really doesn't deserve more than that.

That's just kind of your imagination working for the writers, it's not so much what's actually in the show. All we know about him in the show and what the retcons give us is this:

He used to be some kind of Lizard creature (or he was always a brain creature, depends on the episode).
He got some guy to build the Technodrome for him.
Recruited or created creatures made of rocks to be his army.
Someone captured him, stripped him of his body and banished him to Earth.
Whoever sent him to Earth allowed him to keep the Technodrome despite it being part of the reason he was considered dangerous.
In order to get a new body, he gives a ninja/warlord full control of the Technodrome to.
We are never given a reason why he felt said ninja should be entrusted with this and the ninja openly refuses to build the robot body, which is where the first season starts.
Decades later and the Nick crossover retcons him to be a bumbling an incompetent Kraang banished for sucking too hard, rather than being a fierce warlord. He is also now native to what's obviously a very different version of Dimension X, one in which the Technodrome has a very different origin.


This is what the shows present to us, not what we can infer, assume or fill in. This is what is actually in the shows and it is honestly just full of holes and contradictions, it's simply not a good backstory.

No, I just worded that weirdly. I meant to say there are seven movies in total if you count the Batman crossover, six if you don't. So if you count it, then Krang is only in one movie out of seven, if you don't then he's only in one of six. I figured some people may not count a direct to DVD movie as a movie. I'm sorry for the confusion.

As for the six shows, that is a genuine **** up on my part. Not entirely sure what I was thinking there, the most probable reason is that I was writing about six/seven movies and got the numbers mixed up. My brain might also have thought of FF/BttS as different show from the 2003 show for some reason. And then there is the fact that I have worked on an episode plan of a TMNT show, a little fanfic project of sorts (I have about 100 episodes worked out and it's going to be at least 170 when I'm finished) and I might briefly have confused that for a real show because it has taken up a big chuck of my thought process lately :embarass:. On the Technodrome forums, people were speculating that Kraang Subprime was the 2012 series' counterpart of 2003's Ch'rell, as they both have the scars to prove it. I liked that idea and so I went with it.

I did this when i adapated the 2003 Karai. The story could be something like this:
That the Utrom planet got destroyed due to the war with Nutrinos and Triceratons. Krang was the king of Utroms and one of the few survivors. He came to Earth with this spacsship and he had a family that got killed during the destruction of the planet. Then when he came to earth he decided to adopt a kid because he lost his own kid when the planet got destroyed. And he adopts a girl around 16 or 20 years old who is or want to become a scientist . For a change, he could live this time on a big mansion instead of the technodrome, a mansionthat someone of his family bought in New yok many years ago before the destruction of the planet. Then he starts mutating animals with the mutagen to create a army of mutants to go back to space and destroy triceratons and Nutrinos. And the turtles are the first of the animals that he mutates.
