It looks like is definitely back on the big screen on the 19th December 2003. In the other thread I posted there wasn't a release date given at the time, although a few sites had the 19th listed. The BBFC have updated their site so it now says that it is expected to open 19th December at the top, and they are probably the most reliable source you're going to find.
Looks like it really is going to happen.

Oh yeah. Hero Turtles. Then how can they show Ninja Turtles now? Did Britain kiss and make up with the ninjas?

Does uncut mean with the deleted scenes and the edited blood and violence? Cuz, I'm waiting for them to release that version.

Hey! If a crumby two-bit movie like Star-Wars can be put back on the bigscreen, we should be able to see some shellback action here in the ol' US too! We're just as dedicated as our overseas brothers and sisters, gosh darn it! :tangel: And as much as I like the movie I have (on VHS and DVD), it'd be nice to see a director's cut of the movie. Mmm... blood, and gore, and violence! Oh my!
Tee hee :)

It was only the original cartoon that was called Hero Turtles, the movies have always been released as Ninja Turtles.

I thought Britain was anti-Ninja Turtle. When/why did this change?

you better make that your #1 movie over there! And maybe we'll be lucky to see them on the big screen once again here in the states! :)

Lucky Brits indeed. I've never seen the movies on the big screen. What kind of rock have you been living under? While they were in the cheap dollar theaters, I've seen all 3 of them on the big screen ;)

Sorry...frustrations kicking in again.

EDIT: After seeing this whole thread, I'm going to once again push for making mention of H--- Turtles instead of Ninja Turtles as taboo...if not, I'll start my own forum and make that rule on it :P

I thought Britain was anti-Ninja Turtle. When/why did this change?I wouldn't say the UK was Anti-Ninja Turtles. The new cartoon has been really successful and Ninja Turtles is set to be the most popular toy this Christmas. Just check out these articles if you're in any doubt of the new shows popularity:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3134736.stm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/features/get_together/christmas/2003/presents.shtml

That is the reason why the movie is being released - because Ninja Turtles is the number 1 kids show in the UK at the moment.

Its been ages since I saw tmnt 1 & 2 on the big screen. Did they cut out a scene or 2 from the vhs? (I'm hoping to get the dvd set in a little while).

You know... I'm surprised they don't rerelease this to theaters state side... I mean, they are very popular and since the new cartoon and the movie are quite similar (the voices and personalities of the characters.. plus Casey Jones).

But knowing little kids, they'd go see The Cat in the Trainwreck... err... I mean Hat instead.

I've always wondered about the "heroes" thing... did they have to redubb or edit the action when in the show they reffered to them as the Ninja Turtles? I know they redubbed the theme song.

No, when talking about themeselves, they would say

"We're the Teenage Mutant Turtles" with the "Ninja" EDITED OUT.

Made more sense, and made it less ridiculous really

Wow, I think I just wet myself. I had no idea the film was getting another cinema release.

The BBFC website says "all previous cuts waived", which is nice. Although having seen both the original and the UK versions, my ideal version would be somewhere between the two. The UK version cut or re-framed all scenes with nunchakus. This means that the ending doesn't make a lot of sense - we don't get to see Splinter remove the chucks from his belt, or see Shredder hanging over the edge as Splinter gives his speech about dying without honour. It looks like Shredder just kind-of runs off the roof...

It wasn't just the fighting that was cut though... the scene where the Turtles first go to April's apartment was edited to remove shots of April's rather skimpy shorts (I nearly said to remove April's skimpy shorts - oops!). We also lost some of the blatant product placement, and I think that actually improved the film. You know the scene at the farmhouse where Casey gives April a shoulder rub? Then the Turtles come in and do that cheap gag about Turtle Wax. It ruins the atmosphere at that point.

I haven't confirmed this but I'm sure there are scenes in the UK version which are not in the US version. For example, during the fight in April's apartment, she pulls a rug out from under the Foot guys and one of the Turtles says "you're a natural, sis!".

That post ended up longer than I expected. I've been away from the boards for a few weeks so I'm making up for it here :)

Yeah, but after seeing the UK version so many times, I had got used to that being quite a poignant section of the film, and the joke REALLY grated the first time I saw it...

I heard the reason that theres hero turtles and ninja turtles is cause the guys in charge thought little kids shouldnt be watching a thing about ninjas

There is an article here http://freespace.virgin.net/alasdair.y/ENTERNEWS.HTM
which may be of interest to UK turtle fans... I'm sure it used to be on the BBFC's website but I can't find it there now. It's about "Enter The Dragon" and how the policy on nunchakus in films has changed. A quick summary:

"When martial arts films started to appear in this country in the early 1970s, it was reported that nunchakus demonstrated in the films were being easily constructed and used by some violent individuals ...... In 1991 the Board modified its policy to some extent so that the weapon was no longer removed on sight... A review of the weapons policy was undertaken in June 1999... a firm distinction between different types of offensive weapon was no longer appropriate"

I think the previous head of the BBFC, James Ferman, retired in 1999. Might explain the changes in policy.

Well I really think that UK should give peoples numchuks in ninja movies in stead of sutting them out. Its quite stupid actully.

Well good. Maybe the UK and the USA could become one one day.
