View Full Version : brothers from another mother
Because of pure coincidence or just avoiding copyright we have a bunch of TMNT characters that are basically the same yet have different names. can we list some of them?
Karai / Lotus Blossom: foot ninja girl
Sgt. Bananas / Guerilla Gorilla: military gorilla ally
Old Hob / Scratch: criminal mutated cat
Alopex / Ninjara: ninja furry fox

Bloodsucker / Wyrm, of course.
Dr. Victor "Doc Feral" Feral / Dr. Cornelius Quease /Dr. Jasper Barlow
Go Komodo AKA "The Dragonlord" / The Dragon Lord
Old Hob / Scratch: criminal mutated cat
Don't forget the Archie version, from I think #27. What was he called? Hellcat?

Captain Hoffman/Dirk Savage/Bishop
Keno/Carter
Bebop & Rocksteady/Tokka & Rahzar
Tatsu/Hun/Khan
April O'Neil/Lauren Stanton/Tammy Tamlin
I am really tempted to say Jennika/Venus, but I guess the jury is still out on that one.
Dr. Victor "Doc Feral" Feral / Dr. Cornelius Quease /Dr. Jasper Barlow
And on that note, Terror Bears/Dream Beavers

Let's see here...
Zeno is almost identical to Traximus, to an absolutely absurd degree. Like the only noteworthy differences is that he has a different name and a different weapon. If I had to guess, the only reason he even has a different name is because the writer decided to just copy 4Kids adaptation of the story and realised last minute that Traximus wasn't actually a character in the original story and revised it as quickly as he could. I seriously doubt it's a coincidence because the writers obviously watched the 4Kids show, 2012 Karai is pretty much a copy of her 4Kids counterpart with a few new twists thrown in and there are a few more things that are taken from the 4Kids show as well.
That weird robot who can't make up his mind about wheter he was an alien or from the future in the FW cartoon is obviously very similar to the Fugitoid.
Nano does resemble various tech based characters from Mirage.
Zach and the Pulverizer have some interesting similarities, though I think the Pulverizer is meant to be a ****** character.
I guess Viral sort of resembles Tempestra with a better design and more sensical origin.
Ice Cream Kitty seems like a really bizarre attempt to re-invent Klunk, I seriously don't understand why they went with that abomination instead of Klunk.
The 2012 version of Hothead has several noteworthy similarities to Drako from the 2003 show, what with being a humanoid dragon who stabs people in the back to gain power. I wouldn't even be surprised if the whole "merged with his enemy" thing would have happened if the show got another season.
Turtlebot is obviously very similar to Metalhead.
The 2012 show version of Bishop feels like a weird combination of Bishop and Mortu.
That Deer spirit from the 2012 reminds me of that skeleton with antlers from the Zulli stuff.
Murakami does have some similarities to previous characters, like the homeless scholar in the 4Kids show and even Woody from the IDW comics.
And I'd like to end this with something I'm not sure is coincidental but I still find interesting. Since the 4Kids show, there has been this fairly persistent idea that Shredder is not from the modern age and maybe not even human. Since we're talking about multiple versions of the same character here, I'm not sure it is coincidental. However, given that the exact explanations for how that is and what his true nature is, I am not convinced these ideas are entirely inspired by it.

The Hothead I remember was the Warrior Dragon from the Archie comic, Hothead was just his nickname, He was a Chinese American firefighter who can turn into a giant dragon.

It my one gripe about the 2012 series, They create new characters and just slap the name of the old ones, So they are in name only.

I think the main reason might be trademark maintenance. The writers and/or the toy designers might not have had much of an interest in using Rahzar, Hothead, Tokka or the Neutrinos but were nonetheless instructed to include characters with certain names to lock down or protect trademarks.
It's kind of like how the same names of Transformers will apply to multiple different characters or how the Japanese and American Transformer names differ.

Before I clicked this thread I thought the topic was going to be about the Turtles seeming like black children adopted by a father (Splinter) with no blood relation.

It's a well known fact that "brothers from another mother," or "bruddahs from another muther" was coined by black people.
This is why black people call their friends, "homies" because even though they're not related by blood they consider themselves "brothers from another mothers."

Hitting someone isn't acceptable except in a few specific situations/circumstances. Even if Cubed is saying something misinformed, he doesn't deserve to get beaten up to the point of getting hospitalised for it. Thats just barbaric.

No I'm not referring to myself but that he knows saying stuff like this to people in real life could get him into trouble in comparison to the internet.

The Kraang (2012), the Federation (2003), both were the main enemies of the Triceratons.
2003 Dr. Chaplain / 1987 Baxter Stockman
Viral / Synapse (HAVOC 1987) they can both go inside computers / wires / etc.
Krakus / Landore and Merrick - all time travelers
Wingnut / Dregg’s bat men from season 10 - they do look a little alike.
Sho’Kanabo /1987 Dregg
2003 season 4 Donatello’s mutation / 1987 season 10 Leonardo’s mutation
1987 Drako (The Starchild) / 2003 Drako (Battle Nexus) it might be coincidence they have the same name but I think they were equally notorious.
Irma / Carter- as in they both had robot duplicates of them.
Looking at this thread again makes me wish some characters had just been reused instead of coming up with basically the same concept, same mutant but different name.
And yet we have so many characters in name only that don't resemble the character they're supposed to be yet are supposed to be that character like 2012 Hun or IDW Venus.
