OK, so it seems the main TMNT comic is still a mixed bag. I'm... intrigued though, at least?

This Sera doesn’t seem to be the See-You-Next-Tuesday the Mirage version was. Hope it sticks.
Two references to the 2012 Nickelodeon series: Space Heroes and Bigfoot. Hmm.
Did anyone recognize the sweater and stocking cap that April was wearing in the Punk Frogs story?

Also the debut of Bob.
I think we might have seen him in the Christmas issue.

We also saw him in that peek at the future in #117.

I missed that before. Oops.
This was still a solid issue though. Neat trick Venus pulled too.

Brilliant issue that integrates seamlessly with the AG event mini. Didn't read like Campbell at all and the art was outstanding once again.

Just out of curiosity, what are your opinions on comic book events.
Do you prefer if the titles in said even tell the stories through one another? For example you are obligated to read a comic lie: Title A #32 -> Title B#32 >Title C #32 ->Title A #33. An example of this could live found in the recent Power Rangers Eltarian War.
Or do you prefer an event where you have just the main story + side content that just expands on parts of the story. One example that comes to mind is Spiderverse.

Looks like from the content here that this is only still the "main series" in the sense that it carries the numbering. Even though it introduces some new elements, it mostly took place in parallel with AG #1 and it seems like the new elements will get explained better in AG #2. It feels like Waltz wrote AG #1 and #2 independently of this and Campbell just sort of wrote some filler that wouldn't contradict those issues.

I could go both ways depending on my level of interest in said event, but an interspersed reading order like AG's tends to get more confusing.

I tend to agree but credit where it's due for Tom Waltz putting out the reading order ahead of time.

There was a lot more mutant town in this one and more focus on Jennika and to a lesser extent Venus, while Don was just providing a recap of everything happening so far. The art looked good here, much better than the last few issues where everyone looked kinda ugly or off-model.
Overall though I think the series suffers from what it always has, they have to juggle way too many characters at the same time for screentime. We now have 3 (!) female mutant turtles (Jenninka, Venus and Lita), still the various mutant town mutants (Mona Lisa, the ant, the lesbian pig, all the others), now we have Carmen and the Regenta, while April/Casey/Angel/Alopex are still around in the background, and then we still have the Turtles off doing various things.
Also who were the dog people at the end of the issue? Even as someone who cosumed 99.9% of TMNT content over the last 30 years, they didn't look familiar to anyone.

Sheesh, take a chill pill, will ya?
:ohwell:
I’m just saying, IDW TMNT is circling the drain anyway because of Sophie’s bad writing. Whatever golden egg she teases is bound to be a rotten egg.
You may think I’m being way too harsh on her, but I gave her a chance to prove herself right after she announced that she’d be the new head writer, even though there were already red flags. I decided to trust her anyway, and I quickly learned that I made a big mistake.
Sorry, but I don’t have even a shred of confidence in her writing anymore. And I know that I’m not the only one here who feels that way.

I flipped through it and you can tell Campbell is the author. All the references to Sally being 'mayor', Jennika flirting with the pig, an ant mutant babysitting Lita, the human Carmen is recovering from something and showcasing just how sci-fi weird it all is, and then it syncs up with the Armageddon Game.
My concern is too much is going on and it has to be rushed to a conclusion like Tom Waltz did with City at War.

... You do know what humor is, don't you?...
Anyway, we've already seen furry-esque Utrom android bodies on future covers. If that's the thing you are afraid of spoiling, we already know about it, hence why nobody cares. That and the fact that this has essentially been reduced to a tie-in would mean there likely aren't many details that won't be perfectly understood if you just stick to Armageddon Game proper.

Is it not supposed to be? Sally being mayor doesn't make a difference.

I have to say that while the art was "good" in this issue, like a lot of other things it also felt rushed. Like it needed a couple more passes, to add more dynamic coloring with lighting/shading, highlight certain elements, sh!t even some sound effect words and motion lines would have added a lot to this issue. So many IDW issues have done such a good job of conveying dynamic motion and energy, but this issue just felt very static and flat. The writing was also very, "do you guys remember the plan? The plan where we plan to do A, B, and C? No? Let me recap it one more time for you," way too expository. But since the main series is a tie-in for the time being, it's understandable.
All that said, I do like the direction the story is going (things are happening again!!!) so I'm excited to see more

I was about to write up a big defense of the whole Sophie era since I finally made it through everything pre-AG, but had a big facepalm in this issue.
I’m a really big fan of Fero Pe, and I don’t know if he’s to blame or this design was at Sophie’s behest, but wtf was Jennika’s “constable” fit about? It’s her first day on the job in a position she’s apprehensive to take and she thinks it’ll be a good look to wear torn up fishnet stockings as she patrols the neighborhood as a law enforcement officer? So she’s a “ninja” acting as a cop, but fashion comes before tactical gear? Jesus H…

I almost forgot Carmen. I don't think there's anything memorable about her, except that she's Leo's student, but that's just a reuse of Archie comic's setting. She even didn't appear in any IDW v2 comic.
