I had a feeling they might make a new series based on that movie, but shouldn't they wait to see if the movie is a success first? For all they know the movie could bomb and then we'll have another Rise of the TMNT situation on our hands.

They should probably wait, but this indicates confidence at least.

Would be really silly for them to dive right into another failure of an animated series, without being sure of what they have.

... Oh, wow... I sure am surprised... I sure am surprised indeed... Yes, siree, I sure am... Who has ever heard of an animated theatrical movie being released as a stealth pilot for a TV cartoon? How unprecedented...
Yeah, no **** this was the intention. The last cartoon got canned and this sort of tactic is quite common.

Anyway, if the leaks are to be trusted, then this is... The second TV cartoon in which Splinter was originally a rat? Not counting the weird instances in the Fred Wolf cartoon where they seemingly forgot what version of the origin they were using of course.

Yeah, I feel they should wait on whether the new movie does well or not. Paramount and Nickelodeon sure know how to pick their poison.

The movie is basically the first 3 or 4 episodes of a show then in movie form. I suspect the same voice actors would be used for the cartoon.

Predictable, considering the related villain movies they had planed for Paramount+. Though is the show for that streaming or cable?

Can't help but to agree though, seems waaaaay too premature to plan that before they even know how the movie will go. Esp since they're still so desperately trying to get a new young audience -- who has far more options available to them than we did to grab their attention and most may never form the kind of long term attachment to TMNT (or most properties) like older generations and are more interested in their phones than toys -- instead of existing fans who actually have the money and are always there waiting to throw it at good new stuff.

Maybe it will be a decent movie and series, I dunno. Even if so, I still badly want a 2003-ish kind of show again, and to stop trying to focus so much on the "teenage" part of the title, so to be honest it leaves me rather sorely disappointed that we'll have to wait god knows how many years again to even just hope such a show could happen... This is now a third in a row focusing on the teen part as if it being added to the title wasn't largely just a gimmick based on comic trends back then to start with. Eesh, enough. I miss the "in title only" kind of vibe. Plus, nothing wrong with "teen" characters who present a more mature depiction for kids to look up to, rather than dumbing the Turtles down to act like dumb kids.

Wish we could simultaneously do an animated series for older audiences as well...and they'd double their merchandise profits with those who enjoy both. But that's too silly of an idea to work, it couldn't possibly be wroth it, look at how those comics and toy/collectible companies are making zero profit off older fans.

I'm not lending any credibility to the upcoming Rogan movie, but in theory this is a cool concept. It's basically what the Real Ghostbusters -sort of- did.

In theory, cool. Who know what it will be in execution, especially given the variable that the new movie could be.

I'm shocked that "The Interview" came out in 2014. But look at that movie. It's on Netflix. It's hysterical! I beg you to point out the leftist stuff in that, because it isn't there. It's just fun.

I guess more recent "Long Shot," with Charlize Theron. Literally a political movie by nature. But even there I feel like it kept an even keel. It wasn't that great, but I more or less enjoyed it.

Alright, so did anyone not expect this movie to essentially be the pilot for the next cartoon? Because I suspected as much from the start. I don't know for absolute certain if Hercules, Aladdin, Ghostbusters, Evolution, Osmosis Jones, Boss Baby, Teen Wolf, Men in Black, Care Bears, The Mask, The Croods, How to Train Your Dragon, Tarzan, American Tail 2, Free Willy, Jumanji and Godzilla 1998 were all meant to have TV cartoon spin-offs from the start... But I do know it didn't take long for them to happen...

I didnt suspect this because they usually dont go this route, it's a lot of eggs in one basket, and there is typically a big discrepancy in the
animation budget for a movie vs a streaming series.

So how will that work?

IndigoErth
10-15-2022, 01:31 PM
Can't really say I assumed it was intended to start a series, but suspected it might branch off into one depending on how the movie went over. Silly me over here thinking that wouldn't be in the works until after the movie was a proven success and not a bomb. You'd have thought Nick/Viacom would have learned to exercise caution and rein in the overambitiousness.

edit: Though I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Look at their "ideas" the past number of years... Reboot Spongebob with a 3D animated show and a Patrick-based show. Reboot Rugrats in 3D. Loud House? Make Spanish-speaking Loud House and now the soon starting live action Louse House. Being overambitious with Rogen's version of TMNT and planning a bunch of stuff beyond one film this far in advance just makes it look like they're largely out of ideas.

"Kamp Koral" (I think mostly for Paramount+ but occasionally shows up on cable) and "The Patrick Star Show" that started last year. Okay technically those are more accurately spin-offs, not reboots, but still what I was getting at.

If they can do multiple shows, etc that run at the same time for some properties they own, why is a TMNT series for an older target audience on another Viacom-owned channel so difficult.

To be honest this doesn't seem like such a bad idea commercially speaking. Most cgi animated movies don't make huge amounts of money but since this is essentially a pilot for a Saturday morning cartoon series the idea is that even if it doesn't do big numbers at the box office hopefully most of the kids that watch it will tune in to the show and buy the toys and merchandise.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated movie which was basically just an ad for the TV series. It's still the lowest Star Wars movie in terms of box office but it persuaded the audience it did have to watch the show.

Best case scenario is that if it does okay then it may renew interest in a live action movie series in the same way as the Imagi movie doing okay numbers convinced studios that had no interest in doing another live action movie that there may be some juice left to squeeze out of live action turtles movie. If I'm being realistic though I think it will just create more confusion with the general audience of what TMNT is or should be; an animated franchise for little kids or a legitimate comic franchise aimed the same broad audience the consume Marvel and DC movies. There is still a lot of a taint on the brand left over from Out of the Shadows and I have little hope they have learned anything from it's failure.

This isn't really news, they had already announced that the Rogen-helmed film would have numerous follow-ups exclusive to Netflix, focusing on different villains.

Nickledeon confirmed that the animated Paramount+ movies focusing on the villains have nothing to do with the theatrical movie.

That's not what I said. I don't think they are deliberately testing the waters but I'm saying that if it is successful it could reignite Paramount's interest in doing a live action series. This is exactly what happened in '07 when previously no studio had any interest in a live action series but when the Imagi movie did ok some studios suddenly felt maybe there was enough interest in the brand to invest in a live action movie.

Someone from Paramount recently said, in a press-statement, that they still have an interest in live-action tmnt movies, down the line.

I believe it was when they announced the paramount plus movies centered around tmnt villains.

It was unprovoked, so it does seem to be on their mind.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Nick just tested the waters with the video games and then announced a AAA game shortly after.

They could be testing waters here too.

I remember it sounding like it was a vague possibility. Mentioning it felt like a carrot to fans who would vastly prefer a live action movie. I'm sure there is some interest in a live action feature and they've had talks here and there with people but I think it's still a long way off.

I think Viacom suspect that the time for TMNT to become a successful modern movie franchise may have passed. There was never a better time for it than 2014; There was a lot of hype for the first live action turtles film in decades, the new animated was going strong, lots nostalgia not just for the 80s cartoon but the '03 one too. Also despite the controversy that slip up from Michael Bay saying they were aliens caused it got a lot of people talking. There is also the fact that this was the first time seeing TMNT live in a big budget movie and for younger fans this was the first time seeing the characters in live action period. That can't really replicate that feeling of excitement.

The big one though is that I don't think anyone at Paramount knows how to approach relaunching this. For decades the belief was if you simply make the 80s cartoon in live action it would be a huge box office hit and finally they were able to do it with Out Of The Shadows and it tanked. One of the more dangerous narratives that emerged to explain that movie's failure is that everyone was put off by the the first movie's 'darker tone' and not being enough like the 80s show. I imagine there are a few execs at Paramount which would like to go full Fred Wolf with a new movie straight away. The only thing preventing it is that doing that would take a huge budget that I doubt they will commit to with significant evidence there's an audience for any new TMNT movie.

Can you provide a source for that? I read otherwise.

Certainly. It was clarified later at same event it was announced when it was clear people tweeting about it assumed it was connected to the Rogan movie.

TMNT '12 found a really great balance between "serious stakes and ninja action" and the ridiculousness of the 80's show. Maybe the next evolution is something more akin to the Y2K show....

Do you guys remember the crazy, over-the-top black and white scene from "Forever" that featured the Mirage Turtles? If they want a deep reinvention of TMNT they could dig deep and pound out a black and white show similar to that scene. I don't know how long it would last, but it would either fail or be an award-winning smash.

Actually people who try to make things 'woke' are the ignorant bigots. They're so concerned with overthinking every last thing they fail to see how they're promoting segregation, racism, sexism and bigotry themselves.

You are not a person to a woke leftist. You are only defined by your race and your sexuality and whatever box or label they can fit you into. You are nothing more but a tool to be used to virtue signal, and when they have no use of you, you shut up and go back to where you belong until you are needed again.

Modern day example- Pride Month. Yay yay we're so proud and progressive, yay, we support gay rights, look at us, look at the rainbow, ok the month's over, get the **** outta here til next year so we can profit off you again. And the woke left sees nothing wrong with this.

Sure, the commercialization of it, like what has happened with other holidays, events, or what have you, that most people probably roll their eyes at a bit, but not like it started that way or is anything unusual.

I doubt most companies care that much about "wokeness" or so-called virtue signaling, they're just taking advantage of an opportunity for profits by catering to a demographic who do and want to feel seen -- and who also have money to spend -- which is hardly unexpected for any company.

"Woke" is effectively a meme word at this point, a shorthand intended to subvert any real concept of arguing or even basic meaning that can be understood universally. Using it any context where you try to communicate a point, positive or negative, is something best avoided entirely because it waters down your message.

Woke can have many meanings but it pretty much boils down to 'insane far leftist beliefs'. Media where 'diversity and representation' matters more than story or characters, obsession with 'white supremacy', treating people as just their race and sexuality, 1000 genders and sexualities, the fact that you MUST be attracted to and want to **** a transperson or else you're a transphobe, all these fake hashtag movements and cancelling people over 'wrong-think' and much more is what pretty much being woke entails.

What are you talking about? Every month is Pride Month. You see LGBTQ+ flags everywhere you go. People wear rainbows outside of Pride Month like a badge of honor, like it somehow makes them more “unique” than everyone else. Just last Saturday at an anime convention I saw a person wearing a non-binary flag around them like a shawl or something. One vendor sold enormous LGBTQ+ flags. Sure, you’re spitting rainbows by the end of June, but every day you are expected to give praises to “queer” people or at least acknowledge that they exist. If you have the audacity to replace the Pride flag with the American flag in a video game, you’re the worst of the worst. You’re encouraged to boycott Harry Potter products because they might “offend” the community. Even gay people are sick of all this special attention because when they pushed for gay marriage, they just wanted to be treated as equals.

This is actually the perfect example of appropriation and perversion of what the term started out as. African Americans used the term to tell each other to see thru the bs lies and liberals turned it into accept bearded men using women's restrooms.

At this point if it's not straight or white must trolls yell "Woke!"

You see, here Dooly is pointing out that the term "woke" used to be a cultural movement that had legitimate internal meaning. But then it got into the open and he literally says that it became skewed and twisted by liberals and their agenda.

And so nowhere in what Dooly said is an assault on white people or in support of modern-woke $#!*(. He is literally delivering commentary on how an black-culture euphinism was picked up by blue-hairs.

At this point if it's not straight or white must trolls yell "Woke!"

And then in response to this newhire does not address the narrative, thesis or topic that Dooly said. Instead he introduces an attack on straight or white people by proxy of his commentary implying that isolating woke $#@!( as a negative thing means you are a troll who can only accept straight or white content.

One person's thought here is not connected to the other. The second person's thought did not reflect the comprehension to understand what the first person was saying and used what was said as a launchpad to attack the "crazy anti-wokester". The two thoughts are only connected by the word "woke" and not connected by actual content or throughput. One person is saying "woke is so far gone that it's everywhere now and not about what it's supposed to be about" and the second person responded as if the first had supported modern woke culture by saying "all people see is woke stuff everywhere, what idiots!". The two implications are not the same.

If woke $#!( was actually about inclusion then there would barely be any opposition to it. But instead, woke $#!( is about society's social-children throwing tantrums and wanting to overwrite themselves onto something in order to displace something or someone else. Woke #@!( is about the assault on whatever they don't like - not about their inclusion. It's a lie.

First, there is no woke left. Woke as a term was co-opted by the alt-right to make an enemy that doesn't exist and the divide people.

To your point I highlighted red, the "woke left" very much sees a problem with that. What you're describing aren't leftists, they're capitalists.

You're soooo close to getting the point...

Yeah I feel like they should have waited cause not only they don't know if the Rogen movie is going to be a success or failure. But I can see two paths Paramount and Nickelodeon could go depending on this movie if the movie bombs this show gets the Rise treatment one season possibly two, then you're done or change the show a bit having that the series is its own universe and have no connection to the movie and back track the idea of the series continuing after it.

They could also face the similar backlash Rise gotten after it was announced when the 2012 series just ended and given that Rise slowly gained a following over the last couple of years especially after the movie. I can see people getting up in arms over this instead of continuing Rise.

First, there is no woke left. Woke as a term was co-opted by the alt-right to make an enemy that doesn't exist and the divide people.

Honey…you couldn’t be more wrong.

Sure, the term “woke” is often misused by people on the right, like how “racist” and “transphobic” are the woke left’s favorite words to use when they want to tear down the people they don’t like. For example, female representation in a film doesn’t automatically make it “woke”. If the female characters are written as flawless individuals who can do no wrong while all the male characters are stupid, useless and/or a**holes, then yeah that’s considered to be “woke”. And not liking a feminist or gay movie, according to the woke left, makes you a bigot, even if the movie is in fact garbage.

The woke left does in fact exist. They are the ones who are harassing and bullying the streamers for playing “Hogwarts Legacy” because of you know, “transphobia”. They are the ones who want to bring back racial segregation to give black people “safe spaces”. They are the ones who are throwing paint at famous art pieces to fight climate change. They are the ones who want to censor books like “James And The Giant Peach” by replacing the word “fat” with “enormous” and such.

I could go on and on. My point is, the woke left is not the alt-right’s made-up boogeyman. The woke left does in fact exist, and they are causing problems for everyone, not just the people on the right. They are the ones causing division. Even Bill Maher acknowledges their existence.

It's not enough for people to parrot the talking points of their favourite youtuber activist but just linking their video is an extra kind stupid. Here's some random person's opinion as if that has any validity over say an expert on the subject. I also think it doesn't make the person doing seem intelligent; I'm a free independent thinker not like the brainwashed sheeple that get told what to think and to prove it here's an reactionary on youtube saying all the things I think.

And yes the obsession with 'woke' is done by people who have completely lost their minds. People who rage against things that aren't problems like M&Ms or the mere suggestion that there better options than gas stoves or flat out don't exist like CRT being taught in US high schools. **** off with that ****.

I can provide even more evidence other than just YouTube videos. Would you like to see? :D

I don’t want the government dictating how we should cook our meals (they don’t need to poke their big fat noses into our personal lives anyway) nor do I want crazy activists telling black kids in school that they’ll never succeed in life thanks to the white kids sitting next to them or that white kids owe black kids reparations because of what their ancestors (probably) did over 200 years ago. How does that make me a sheep?

Obama himself acknowledged that wokiesm is a problem. So why are you pretending that it’s not?

Coola Yagami
02-22-2023, 10:15 PM
The amount of fights in schools nowadays cause CRT is literally teaching black kids to hate white kids. Yeah, the woke left is all about being inclusive.

I'm 100% sure if they're doing it on purpose, but if not, they're too dense to see that their attempted over-corrections to issues they've made up in their heads can only lead to further division and segregation, the complete opposite of what they claim to be fighting for.

I don’t like to use the word “woke” but to pretend the radical left isn’t out of control and creating a lot of unneeded tension is to have your head in the sand.

That’s not to say the right are perfect. The world isn’t black and white. I just can’t take anyone seriously who is buying the left’s BS these days. They are completely gaslighting the American people any chance they get, if you listen to the Biden admin. Then you have your corrupt Pelosi’s who like to cheat the stock market, your AOC’s who love to manipulate, lie, and pretend. I could go on. Most people representing the left these days are completely warped. Twitter is always a crapshoot but all of these crazy perspectives and false talking points from the left leak onto there and the rest of the internet.

Then there’s the constant manipulative play on words, like the “don’t say gay bill”, which has nothing do with saying gay. The “inflation reduction act” which does not combat inflation. Spreading this type of misinformation and falsely-coined bills is disrespectful to the people. It’s manipulative. This is 1984 crap.

Or the Biden admin coming out week after week and gaslighting. Telling us inflation is down and the economy is great. Bragging about accomplishments that aren’t his or improvements that stem from problems his policies caused.

Or Kamala stating that we are going to prioritize helping “people of color” during a natural disaster. What in the world? We are prioritizing people by skin color now, during a natural disaster? She accidentally say that aloud?

Don’t defend the current left.

LOL @ thinking Biden is the radical left. Biden is basically as conservative as Reagan and Harris is a cop, so fck em both. I yearn for the day there is a President further left than center, but that will never happen since the alt-right keeps moving the center further right.

Keep in mind, the actual topic is about a TV show we know nothing about aside from being a continuation of the upcoming movie. Which in turn, all we know about is that it will have terrible character design and a questionable plot about the Turtles tricking school teacher April into letting them attend classes under the pretense that they will solve a mystery. None of which seems to have much connection to "wokeness" as of yet, looking to be a terrible movie of course, but not yet much that can be considered "woke".

Grain of salt... Same for those on Reddit assuming it's real after a Twitter post that isn't affiliated with Paramount. NickALive! also isn't official from Nick nor does it actually mention anything about a show, so I'm not really sure where the assumption came from unless someone misread "a series of" and skipped the words "exclusive movies." If both of those have a credible source it should probably one that is also accessible to the rest of us, but we haven't seen one, that I know of.

Also as people get older, more experienced and more educated they tend to become more right leaning. Which is, IMO immediate evidence as to where the liberal brain-trust truly resides.

You've got to be careful with that around here though - you say "right leaning" and a few of the mouth-breathers will permanently label you "conservative" forever.

That they would cast a teenager with a unique voice because everyone doesn't sound the same when they are young. He sounds young but doesn't change the fact that the voice actor is actually a real teenager.
