This is unexpected, but a random publisher has listed three collected volumes of the TMNT Newspaper comicstrip that ran from 1991-1996!
$30ish each.
Vol 1: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1387338293
Vol 2: https://www.amazon.com/dp/138731288X
Vol 3: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1387278916
No clue on the quality since Lulu is a print-on-demand service.

Well, damn. Amazon says I have 30 days to return them, so I'll be the guinea pig. And I want to grab them before Viacom yanks 'em.

Hm, so self published then. Hey, whatever works. Made up a little book quite a few years ago that we got some printed copies of via Lulu and it was decent enough. Hopefully the quality is as good if not better today.
Wish these were cheaper, the comic was never in our local paper and didn't even know it existed until someone mentioned it here one time, so I'd grab them immediately if they weren't like almost $90 in total and need to put that money elsewhere.

I went ahead and got them as well. If it turns out to be what I hope it is, I can't risk not getting it. Who knows if I'll have the chance later?

My set of books arrived today. They look quite nice! I am not disappointed at all. This is such a nice surprise to have these available now. Volumes 1 and 2 include a nice introduction explaining the history of both strips. Volume 1 contains the UK strips, which are all printed in color. Volumes 2 and 3 contain the US strips. As I said in the other thread, I never thought that I would get the collected Turtles comic strips AND the original score for the 3rd movie in the mail on the same day. Both used to seem like a pipe dream. Pretty awesome!

Oh no, I hope it comes back. But this is exactly why I bought all of them immediately. It's print on demand, so I'm worried Viacom got to them already.

Went ahead and ordered the first two volumes, but yeah, now I'm worried I waited too long on Vol.3, the most desirable of the bunch. I was waiting to hear about folks' reception of the books before buying.
Anyhoo, I think I've been able to locate most of the late run newspaper strips myself via Newspapers.com and Florida Today, which nobly carried it all the way to the end.

So I am confused, this is some random person self-publishing this without Viacom's permission and so it's technically not legal?

Just got mine today, and from the sound of it, It's a good thing I got all three right away. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. The books are good quality, the binding is solid, and true to his word, EVERY SINGLE STRIP is in here. It's nice to finally have a solid, complete run, and to finally be able to read the whole thing without having to track down a bunch of different incomplete archives.
Since they're all scanned, the images are a bit faded in some places, but honestly, what can you do when you're working from old newspapers and microfiche? The fact that this book exists at all is an achievement. And when the "official" channels won't do it, where does that leave you. Honestly, I can't imagine the time that went into actually putting this thing together, ultimately all for the sake of only a few people who are going to read it and who even knew to look for it in the first place.
Also, there's a lot of good Dan Berger art in here.
If you find yourself with a chance to pick these books up, I would implore you to do so.
...
I'm not sponsored. But still, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!

Looks like its a whole new listing too:

Only after receiving Volumes 1-2 yesterday and finally getting them in hand did I notice the cover art makes the curious choice of using Michelangelo without his chucks. If it were only the case for Volume 1, I would have thought it appropriate (being the UK's censor-happy "Hero Turtles") but it does look funny.

Has anyone figured out if these are official or just bootleg?

These seem to be decidedly unofficial since there's no logos or branding, they came out of nowhere with no promotion from official channels, and they're published by a print-on-demand service. Clearly, this was a fellow fan's passion project that they decided to share with the world regardless of legality.

These same books have also been available on eBay for slightly more than the Amazon price. Just in case they become unavailable again on Amazon for those interested.

My volumes came in and I'm very impressed with them.
Volumes 1 is all UK stuff that I didn't even know existed. And while I've never been big on the UK Hero Turtles comics, it is cool to have these just to have them.
Volumes 2-3 are what I REALLY wanted and I'm going to have a blast reading the whole run of strips from start to finish. I think that artwise these strips are Dan Berger's most substantial TMNT contribution, so it's a blessing to at last have them all. Also, I realize just how much of the comic I never read. I had been following the strips when they were being posted on the original Mirage-run TMNT website ages ago, but dipped out after the Rat King arc. That was only about 1/3 of the way through the run, so I have a LOT of new material to enjoy.
The only omissions are the Saturday and Sunday features, which are acknowledged in the foreword of Volume 2. They weren't comics, but a selection of drawing tutorials, environmental tips, fanart, and a few Jim Lawson "versus" doodles (sometimes featuring Playmates toy characters who never made media appearances, like Pizzaface). They were strictly filler and the foreword explains that they were so unpopular, many papers didn't even run them despite running the dailies. While a shame they aren't included for completion's sake, they really are just filler and won't miss 'em aside from a few rare Lawson doodles.
Anyway, these volumes are really cool and I wish I could thank the guy who put the work into curating them, most assuredly knowing from the start that the finished products would be doomed to take-down notices from a corporation that didn't even know they owned the comics until he made them available and will likely never care to release an official collection.
Highest recommendation! Amazon may not have them, but that Barnes & Noble link a few posts above seems to still work, and I've spotted them on eBay for reasonable prices. Worth it!

Excuse me, but can someone confirm or deny if vol 3 of the collected newspaper strips has any stories or strips done by jim lawson? Those are my absolute favourites and I have read through vol 2 now. But dan bergers style doesn t really suit me. I understand that he has at least the bulk of vol 3s content, am I right? Thanks

Got my books in from Amazon last Friday. Really cool little collections. Some of the strips are a little fuzzier than others, and some of the text is a bit faded, but considering what the dude was working with, I think he did a pretty bang-up job with these. (I especially dig how they're kinda the perfect size and format to be slotted next to IDW's Archie collections on a shelf.) Finished the first two books and currently on the third. This is the first time that I've read ANY of these strips, so it's interesting to see them start out as all-ages tales played decently seriously that wouldn't be out of place in the Archie books (including ANOTHER variation of Sons of the Silent Age) before going full-on comedic gag-a-day style. (While still retaining the serialized plot.)
Also, Volume 2 advertising "Wingnut" as a character appearing in the strip when it's actually just a man-sized alien bat creature that goes unnamed reminds me of when some people thought Kirby Bat from the Nick show was that universe's Wingnut because of a joke.

Skimming through, I'm decently certain that Volume 3 is all Dan Berger.

Thank you for the reply! That is sad for me. Would have loved more lawson tmnt strips!! I think it would be so helpful if there were screenshots of the interior of each book available, but I dont see that anywhere.

After finishing all three books, I've discovered that Volume 3 has an odd printing error that repeats a strip. Said repeated strip is the April 15th, 1996 one, which also has the unfortunate side effect of replacing the April 16th entry with said repeat, meaning that one strip ends up completely missing from the book as a result of this. Fortunately, said strip has already been archived for those wanting to read the missing piece:

Still a bummer, but absolutely could've turned out worse. (Even with the strip missing, the story still flows pretty well while reading it.)

Thanks; I printed the strip out, cut it and pasted it over the duplicate strip with a glue stick. Super easy! (also reminded me of when I used to cut out and glue Far Side comics into a marble notebook back when I was like 8 years old; those are some memories...)

Apparently you can order these books from the from this print on demand publisher too.

But I cant seem to get past the verify your human check mark bit. Nothing appears when the site supposed to load up after. Even if I get anywhere I just want to know what shipping is for a book? Turtles comic strip book 3 is the one I need. I just ordered my first 2 books of the strips from chapters.ca. Cause it aint on Amazon.ca anymore it seems. Amazon.com they dont list them at all other than from sellers.
