Why didn't Mikey use his grappling hook?

Near the end of the first issue of The Last Ronin, you see Mikey get tackled out a window by a giant berserker Mouser and fall to his doom, but couldn't he have just used his grappling hook to grapple to safety? You see him use it lots throughout the comic.
