So about issue #3…
It explains why Mikey’s eyes were completely white throughout the first series. He got exposed to some major pollution in China and actually went blind for a while. He later regains his sight…only to see someone he has grown to care about die in front of him. Poor guy can’t catch a break, can he?
It also shows how he got his new trademark tonfa.
Next issue…Welcome To Thunderdome.

Lost Years has been fine, but it’s hard to be invested for something that has little tension.

Better than the furry Freeform drama that is the main ongoing series

Somehow, these new generation turtles still don't interest me. I still confused why April and Marie have to create new mutant turtles? I don't think that's what Mikey wants to see.

Because none of the previous turtles (presumably) had any kids of their own, and April and Casey want to keep their legacy alive. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may not be around anymore, but their successors will continue to keep the city safe as well as pass on the teachings of the old ninja masters, including Splinter, to the generation after them. Mikey would’ve wanted that.

In other words... filling a role that has absolutely nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles, then.

Protecting civilians from dangerous gangs isn’t the turtles’ job? In a story that Casey Marie told the kids, the turtles helped her father protect a woman from thugs, even though they knew it would mess up their mission against the Foot. And normally they’d go after the Purple Dragons and stop them from causing more trouble, but Raph’s death shook them pretty hard and they instead focused on getting revenge on the Foot.
Mikey could’ve just continued to evade Death Worm and ignore all the carnage since his main mission was to head back to New York and defeat the Foot Clan once and for all. But thanks to Master Yip, he realized that before he could face Hiroto, he had to face Death Worm first and stop his warpath. It was the honorable thing to do.
Even though they were trained by Splinter since birth to take down the Foot, the turtles used their skills to help others in need regardless of who the oppressors were. Mikey and his brothers thought of New York as their home so of course they would protect it from all enemies. The city was even Mikey’s vision of Heaven after death.

Absolutely not.

It felt like the whole purpose of this issue was just to clarify why Mikey had no pupils in the first series. He goes blind and lives with some villagers for a couple months, does a bunch of "Daredevil training" and then he gets tased, and poof, now he can see again.
It really wasn't necessary, I would've been fine believing it was just a design choice.
It also bugged me that Mikey put up no fight when he went blind. You'd think he would've been trained for that. Hell, In Tales Vol. 2 "Blind Faith" Leo gets blinded by a Foot Elite and still holds his own against him, explaining that they were taught for years how to fight in the dark.
But here, Mikey goes blind and just freaks the hell out.
Honestly, the blind thing could've been cool. But then they undo it at the end. It's like they can't make up their minds.

This no-pupils thing just doesn't make any sense to me. This said, I really like how this series is drawn, especially the scenes in the past by SLGallant.

The writers really do like making Mikey blind, don’t they?
