So uh, looks like delaying Armaggeddon Game #8 was a bad thing. This issue takes place after that and spoils events from the conclusion. Whoops!
This is the start of a new story arc, and there's a bit of a change of status quo from the events of the previous arc that we haven't gotten to read the conclusion of yet. Oh well! The art of this issue is really good however, I hope this artist sticks around and I love the way he draws the Turtles.
Hilarious they didn't delay this issue too because reading it before the Armaggeddon game conclusion spoils the outcome. It's like skipping the season finale of a TV show and watching the next season opener before it.

Why is Raph so freaking tall? Aren't they supposed to be between 4'6 to 5ft?

If they needed extra time to finish Armaggedon Game #8, they should of just delayed this issue too even though it was ready. You don't spoil the outcome of a major arc and release the next issue before it.
This issue itself is rather decent for what it is, even if it repeats a lot of the same tired tropes again (Raph gets angry and storms out for the millionth time, the Turtles are talking about if they should patrol or not, Alopex abandoned the Turtles for the millionth time, etc).
We know the next arc is about Leatherhead so I'm interested because he needs some proper screentime after being Krang's slave for like 3 years.

IDW dropping the ball once again. Who's surprised?
But honestly, I don't know how this can possibly go on much longer. The Pantheon was THE story of TMNT IDW. It was the backbone and greater cause of just about everything that's happened. There's nowhere left to go. There's nothing left to do. And the comic has kind of sucked ever since #100, so I was really hoping they'd just wrap it up and let it be done.
I guess they introduced Armaggon, who I guess is an even MORE powerful god or whatever, so that's something, but I don't really have any faith in the creative team at this point to actually make that an interesting or well written story. They're probably just gonna focus on Alopex and Angel meeting Ninjara (who's just about the only major character they HAVEN'T shoved in here yet), starting an indie punk band for 10 issues, reveal that they're all gay, and then Venus will stop Armaggon all by herself in 8 pages while the turtles cheer her on for being awesome. Assuming the company doesn't implode before they have a chance to do that.

Is this a new artist for this issue? I have to say I love the way the Turtles are drawn here. Alopex also looks really cool and feral instead of the "cute and furry" type of look she had in most recent issues. I hope this artist sticks around. Everything looks gritty.

I'm with Cubed, I love the art so much. The Turtles look so good... sort of a mash up of 2003, the Injustice 2 designs, an maybe a hint of 2012?
I didn't catch the 6' height in that mug shot. Which is funny, because there is one image of them sitting in the lair when April is leaning on the back of the sofa and Raph, to the right of her, nearer to the viewer in that angle, looks tiny, so exactly how HUGE is she? lol
It's enough that I don't keep up on comics that closely, but this multi-issue undertaking is confusing enough without them being delayed and released out of order.
Poor Leo and Mikey though... one just wants so bad to finally just get to be a part of normal life and the other needs a break and get away from it all so bad.
Edit: Wait, that's inches, not feet, they put too much space between the two numbers, he's not 6', he's more like 5'.

It's pretty obvious looking at this issue they're already struggling to find reasons to keep Jennika with the Turtles. She already went off to her band in this issue, might as well just have her and Sheena stay there as the Turtles move on.

It would be convenient timing to let her and her girlfriend step aside, go get their own place and lives. Maybe not necessarily entirely gone if they don't want to remove her, but the fact that she's older (if I recall correctly?) and that they were both once human, it could definitely be an excuse for wanting some space and some form of normalcy, while the brothers take some time to reorient themselves and figure out their own future.
Mutant Town might have been a strange new life for all those mutated people, but now that they can attempt try to go back to their old lives it's the Turtles who are bound to feel out of place and need time to get their footing... So Jennika probably aught to step back to just a support role in helping them figure out a different life as needed.

I know! I think it’s because tight pants make them look attractive, or at least it does in a furry’s eyes, and considering who’s writing this stuff…

Alopex training the weasels to be part of her own clan was something that was hinted from Future Lita's future from one of the past issues, So that came into fruition.
So some things from the future were being hinted on, and from this issue, This is only the start.
Mutants integrating with the rest of human society is just the start to a potential future where the city is all mutants.

Really jarring to read an issue that takes place that spoils their entire huge event, nice. IDW isn't in shambles at all. Anyway, still love campbell's old idw art but for the love of god everything involving mutant town side characters needs to die, hope a new writer takes the helm eventually.

Funny conversation I had with the comic book store lady this afternoon that I didn't feel warranted its own topic.
I went in to buy the TMNT Saturday Morning series and the first issue of TMNT X Street Fighter and both were sold out. She told me lately the Turtles have been selling out which has been surprising her because they're been just laying there clogging up the shelves for months and no one's buying them. She says she'll have to start ordering more.
I didn't get into detail but I told her some time after issue 100 it got boring and nothing was really going on until recently the bad guys finally started doing things and things started to get exciting again, so it's not surprising people are starting to buy them again.
Now I wonder if that smaller comic shop will now start ordering copies.

Curiously about the failure of Rat King. He is a demigod, so even he is be killed, he can be easily reincarnate. Just like Aka. Unless, he has been banished to other realm and never came back.
Also, why do they suddenly care about vigilante duty? Before that, they become passive.

That’s actually a good idea. While I don’t dislike Jennika as much as many as this forum do, it seems clear at this point that she’s not the breakthrough character that they wanted. This way they could save face and say that we’ve introduced this new character and could keep her around for future events once they figure out what the hell to do with her. Also, This way you don’t have too many characters in the lead roster.
For example, what if Donatello took advantage of the post lockdown situation to go to school and give another character like Venus some time to shine for a while?
I would like to keep Lita around somehow, though. Having a small child mutant turtle around seems to be a fresh idea to me and she doesn’t have the baggage that Jennika does.

It’s more appealing to me anyway than having Jennika being the older stepsister which is supposed to be April’s role and trying to boss the guys around despite being the new girl. There’s also more story potential for Lita given that she was presumably once human and probably has a family out there who may try to take her back, especially if a way of reversing her mutation is found. I’m also curious to see if my theory of Lita being an early attempt at creating a Trojan horse by Dr. Barlow is correct or if she simply gravitated toward the Hamatos because she’s a turtle like them.

… Yes, technically speaking, Lita is a "better" concept than Jennika, simply because it's not quite as much of an obvious attempt to add to the main group of Turtles… But that's still what she kind of is...

It's true, they actually have an easy way of writing Jennika out that's actually respectful to the character instead of just pulling a Poochy with her and sending her back to her home planet.
Jennika and Sheena are already a couple and they both like performing in bands. Just have Jennika and Sheena say they're staying in mutant town or wherever to perform, and the Turtles just move on with their lives and their adventures. Jennika could pop up from time to time, but she doesn't have to be part of the main cast.

And you know what? I’m fine with that. Letting Chris Claremont and others to introduce new characters gave us Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, and Kitty Pryde in the X-Men.
What I *do* have a problem with is when it becomes like the X-Men *now* that has a cast of thousands that mostly never go anywhere and causing the whole narrative to collapse under its own weight because Marvel doesn’t want to let Logan to ride off into the sunset with dignity before readers got sick of him or letting Kurt and Kitty do their own thing with Excalibur while getting caught up in bloated crossovers with the Avengers.
Personally, unless you do the occasional multiverse thing, I’ve come to despise superhero crossovers. And if the current state of the MCU and Marvel comics themselves, so has a good deal of general audiences have as well. People aren’t willing to do hours of homework watching movies and Disney+ and reading about characters they don’t care about like Captain Marvel just to keep up only to watch someone like Joe Quesada kneecap the franchise you do like just because he didn’t like seeing all these mutants running around but still wanted Wolverine to be an Avenger.
F-ck that. I’d rather see the Turtles do a crossover with Archer or Parks and Recreation and see Donnie and Dr. Krieger build some unholy abomination of science or Ron Swanson on Sally Pride’s staff than see another superhero event/gimmick.
Sorry for my little rant. I just don’t want what happened to the X-books happen to the TMNT.

So now that Armaggeddon game is out I re-read this issue. I guess Sally/Regenta going on press tours with Baxter was a follow-up of keeping him under lock and key. Everyone else from the previous arc has largely been written out off-screen (Karai, Casey and the mutants, all the Dimension X characters, etc) so the cast is smaller again.
This was a decent issue, a bit better than the earlier Sophie issues, but I hope it isn't just more mutant town for the forseeable future.
