I gave up just before the event. How have things been since then?

It sounds like nothing happened, really?

Honestly, sound like one of the biggest issues I have with modern western cape comics.

I enjoyed it well enough, even if you could tell they were rushing a lot of the climax for the villains probably because they left them lingering too long and are unsure of how much longer the IDW series will go on before IDW either goes bankrupt or the series gets canceled.

They killed off a lot of the major villains and ended some of them, so they did tie up a lot of loose ends going.

Sure, Krang, Ch'rell and Metalhead are done, but Stockman has joined forces with Karai, and we don't yet know what will become of Null so there's a chance she could come back. Heck, we don't even know what will happen to Rat King and/or the rest of the Pantheon... Under a healthy company, that alone, nevermind new vilains and relapsing antagonists, would provide enough material to reach #200. Alas.

Well none of the other Pantheon members were ever evil or villains, it was really just Rat King. The Turtles already met them all multiple times and it's not like they ever tried to cause problems. Kitsune has also mostly settled down since Shredder was revived.

Too many anti-climax and more disapointments.

Hob, Bebop and Rocksteady, Kitsune, Karai and her other mutant minions are still alive.

I don't like how they try make Hob an antihero or savior. I don't know if Kitsune will sacrifice herself in the last issue. Considering the evil she did, she still got good ending in City at War finale. That's just disgusting. At least making her sacrifice hersef is the only atonement. Karai proves once again that she's just a dishonorable, untrustworthy ally.

Honesly, Krang and Metalhead story should be over. Why bring them back again, then do nothing and get killed again?

Haven’t been up to date on this series. Is Karai now good, bad, or morally ambiguous? And what does she think of her grandfather now that he’s the turtles’ ally?

Karai just befriended all the Turtles allies. Bludgeon already gave up fighting and is training Venus. Koya, Bebop/Rocksteady are basically under Karai's command so they're not causing any trouble at the moment.

As of now it feels like she's an ally, but that could change. I think her feud with the Turtles is pretty much over, and has been since Rahzar/Tokka almost killed her in the helicopter crash.

There's still one more issue to go, but even then... no not really.

It started off strong. It really did. But then it just kept getting more and more convoluted, shoving in character after character, all while somehow taking it's sweet time on what didn't matter while rushing like hell through the things that did. The turtles are basically bystanders through the whole thing, there's tons of filler to pad it out, and literally every major problem so far has been solved by the various other characters and never the turtles themselves. It's been anticlimax after anticlimax, and honestly having read most of it, it was pretty overhyped. Plus, many of the problems with the characters and tone crept their way in anyways, especially in later parts. And the comic doesn't even end after it! It keeps going. So it doesn't even get the distinction of wrapping up the story. Overall, I would say it was pretty disappointing. But then again, that's kind of been the norm with the comic ever since #100.

Rat King has some plans for Karai. But I don't know if the writers still remember this. They seem to have forgotten or ignored some unexplained foreshadowing. Until now, we still don't know why Krang want Hamato family's DNA?

I doubt even Waltz rememers why Krang wanted the Hamato DNA.

Maybe there was going to be human-grown clones of the human versions of the Turtles from Feudal Japan or something, then they went nahhh.

In my opinion, and it's not an entirely informed one as I've not read large swaths of IDW, is that the comic seems to lack like a truly vicious bad guy. Not supernatural or alien (though it might be fun to see a Galactose-level bad guy as well), but just like a really, really powerhouse of a bad guy, that would make Shredder look like a wuss by comparison. A true force of nature, who can tear through his opponents, ruthlessly, but is equally cunning and intelligent. Someone with a compelling, believable backstory with some humanity but still someone who has no problem executing a room of like 50 people. Someone original, not obscure character #20304 being repurposed. And yeah, just make it a completely normal human.

Just seems like too much recycling and redemptions by this point. And I'm good with redemption stories, that just means you have to keep balancing the scales with other, new bad guys that are as equally compelling as what was already there or moreso.

I know, and I could be wrong but for the longest time I've had a feeling that they'll all sacrifice themselves somehow and/or leave the mortal plane to ensure Rat King never comes back.

She's Karai. Meaning she's morally ambiguous at best, and currently playing both sides after she ostensibly helped expose the Gang of Four using the full might of the Foot but immediately turned around and leveraged that display of power into a secret alliance with Stockman. Her redemption is a revolving door. Girl won't ever learn.

Your second question (sadly) hasn't really been addressed yet.

Basically:

Karai = ambiguous ally (for now), with Koya, Bebop/Rocksteady and Bludgeon under her command. Bludgeon has already given up fighting and is training Venus. Koya is still a jerk but I don't think she will be attacking the Turtles on her own.

Baxter = Still Mayor apparently in issue #140, so I guess he'll still be going for awhile.

Old Hob = Basically been an on and off ally for a long time now. At this point who knows, every couple of issues it seems the writers change their minds with him. The Mutanimals have mostly abandoned him at this point though.

Krang, Ch'rell, Metalhead and Null are done, (and Null's mutant henchmen seem to have given up on her), and apparently Rat King is defeated in some form too (issue #140 spoiled that ahead of time...whoops!), and Shredder/Kitsune seem to be ambiguous allies at this point too. The rest of the Patheon is neutral toward what's going on and always have been.

There's really no major villains anymore with half of them either defeated and the other half being more or less allies at this point. Baxter is really the only wild card.

Null's still alive, though. She's not "done" done.

Hob still has Herman and Lindsey with him. And Pete, I guess? Where is Pete? Plus he's setting up his very own Genosha.

Speaking of the Mutanimals, I wish we got some sort of update on Mondo and Seymour.

I assume the Nova Posse will take Null and put her in the same space prison Noi Tai Dar is in. Lock them up together. Sure they could possibly escape for a future story arc, but for the time being their characters are done.

Hob doesn't really command the older Mutanimals anymore. Herman already made peace with the Turtles/Sally, and Mondo Gecko has also gone solo. Mutagen Man, I have no idea what happened to him. Lindsey is just their friend.

I have no problem with some old villains being repurposed. It's sad that IDW writers squandered the story potential of these character.

Like Bishop, he could have been a great long running villain but once they revealed he was a midget who was one note evil and even a hypocrite he was permanently damaged. Even make him an generic extreme avengers, a guy who obsessed with eradicating all mutants because his family or friends were killed by them is better than that.

It some highlights, but overall it was a dud. I like a good, multi-title spanning comic event, but this one was spread too thin. The event title itself was pretty disjointed and overall not that exciting, OR it had stories that should have been in the main title. There were some main title issues that were really good, but they felt disjointed having not been in the event title.

Personally, the best issue overall was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Armageddon Game: The Alliance #4 (the Venus centric issue), which should have been a main title issue but instead had the longest event comics name of all-time - the story was so tight and the art was stunning!

Overall, it's worth the read if you like Turtles enough to be posting on a forum :)

Overall I think it was ok, but splitting it up across books and acting like there were different stories when it was one larger story was a mistake and made it far harder to follow.
