well for one, it still could be a beat em up game. But give each TMNT there sory line, throw some vehicals for YOU to drive, and a more varity of bad guys. Plus throw the old games in the new game.

The TMNT franchise doesn't go as deep as the Star Wars franchise means that a KOTOR style game in the TMNT universe wouldn't work? That makes little to no sense at all.

Hopefully, if they DO make another one, it won't be so friggin boring.
Take out some of the levels, make the game a bit shorter, give the bosses patterns, 4 player co-op, more moves. And take out the 'combo' system, or make the stage villans need a bit more damage before they die. Give Leo more reach with his katana. More interaction with the levels would be nice. Give each Turtle their own strengths and weaknesses, along with their own super moves (maybe mikey should have a double jump, donnie could have a locater for the scrolls, ect.).
Basicly fix everything that was horribly wrong with the new game and add more. And make the thug villians harder. It's pathetic that I can walk through a level with Donnie and just keep hitting A and not get hit at all.

So, because a Star Wars game was made in the same style, you wouldn't buy it? It's not like it'd be a crossover, it's just the same style of game.

i wouldn't like it if the game was shorter, is short enough the way it is, they should make it long, but keeping it interesting, and maybe a save state or something, more like tenchu, you know.

Yeah, if they make another one like this, Then they should definitely make different stages for each turtle, it gets boring when you have to complete the game with both Leo, Don, Raph, Mikey, Splinter and so on. They should've made some areas where the turtles skate, scoot AND SO ON like in the GBA game, that would've been cool. And as said earlier in this topic, Give each turtle a special move and a weakness. And it's too bad, if you wanna play 2 player mode, you have to play on the same keyboard. I WANT LAN

KotOR is a great game, but TMNT's universe is not nearly large enough for something like that. The sequel has not been confirmed yet, even if they say they are working on it. It all depends on how the first game sells.

Ok...I don't understand this. Just because the TMNT universe isn't as large as the Star Wars one doesn't mean they can't have the same style of game. As for the new game selling, I've seen some lists that have it as 2 or 3 on the Gamecube top 10. I'm sure it's sold well enough though. If Yu-Gi-Oh card games sell enough to spawn 4 sequals I'm sure the TMNT will sell enough to warrant at least one.

I'd like to play a game where all 4 Turtles are on the screen at the same time, fighting along side with you, even if you're just playing alone. Then you could swap between either of them at any time in order to best use each turtle's special abilities. I'm not sure how that would work in terms of lives and continues, but whatever. That's what I want to see.

With Star Wars there are tons of mythology already there, with Dozens of authors telling stories of diffrent time in that universe. TMNT has always been a straight forward story, the developers would have to create so much new content that that might lose the TMNT feel. Everyone who reads Star Wars comics and books know that KotOR was very accurate, of course there were a lot of new content too, but it had the SW feeling just right. But even if the style might suit the TMNT, I think konami would never take such a big risk.

I've always thought having a block function in the next game would be useful. But what's more is to have it so if you hold down the block button and tap an attack button it does a counter attack, which can then vary depending on how and what you're attacked with and what attack button and weapon you're countering with. It's kinda like this instant finishing move from the LOTR Two Towers but it plays a bigger part and is more flexible. It will probably be hard to incorporate into the game but definitely worth trying
What do you lot think?
Peanut

The fighting engine for RotK has the same thing. It's a big part of the game too. Parry and then hit the special button and you do an instant kill. I'd also like to see more combos like RotK, such as the one where you quick attack, physical attack, and finish move in the right order at the right time and you slice the guy, shove/punch (depends on who your playing) down, and then stab with the sword.
raphael_is_cool
12-16-2003, 05:38 PM
Yeah I agree about the adding little kicks and things in, or punches whilst holding weapons but I thought more in terms to maybe blocking a sword with sai daggers and countering with a kick or grabbing an enemy's bo staff and flinging them..makes it more complex tho

If the next TMNT game was a RPG, I would not be happy. I don't like RPGs.
Though part of me wants a really deep storyline, I mostly am happy with TMNT games staying the more brawler style. Anything different wouldn't be TMNT, IMO. I mean, what TMNT video game hasn't been a brawler?
I mean, what TMNT video game hasn't been a brawler?
Well, Tournament Fighters was a fighting game as opposed to a beat em up.

Also, the first NES game was more of an action-rpg, and the third gameboy game had some puzzle/rpg elements in it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Tournament Fighters. :goofygri:
I've never played the third GameBoy game, so I can't comment on that. The first NES game, however, I can comment. I don't really consider it an action/RPG. I consider it more of an action game with some brawling. That's just me, though.
Ninja Tiptup
12-26-2003, 02:16 AM
No TMNT 1 was not an action RPG. It was an action adventure game but it did not have RPG elements. No level gain or anything like that. It was like Metroid with ninja weapons... and I suppose very close to Castlevania as well (seriously the sprites and what not are so similar that you could switch a turtle with Simon Belmont and few would notice the change).
The next turtle game should be designed to be multiplayer in every way possible. The engine should be fast and furious and the fighting should be more exciting. That doesn't always mean more combos or what not... but the controls and reaction time should be solid and the turtles shouldn't feel so awkward. There could be some stealth elements here and there but that's really more of a single player experience (4 player stealth seems to complicated to me but it could work... I mean there is Rainbow Six). You should be interested in moving forward in the game and it should be able to interact with more objects. There could even be a four player brawl mode when all four players duke it out to see who's top turtle and of course you character selection wouldn't be limited to just the turtles (but it would be until you unlock Casey, Splinter, etc. maybe even Usagi and Fugitoid). It should cover more story with less areas and each area should be a single level instead of having an arc with several levels to play. That would really cut down on the repeditive nature of the game. You should be able to interact with the 3 other players to do teamed up special attacks (from the start but they get better once you get further) and of course there needs to be a larger variety of one liners and special ones for certain situations (like on Turtles in Time when you get hit by the Mud Monster's mud and you here a turtle say "And I just took a shower!"). Basically making it the ULTIMATE multiplayer game that TMNT was meant to be. Clearly TMNT is meant to be played by four people at a time... I wish they'd just figure that out.
Its been said that Konami is interested in porting some of the old games in TMNT II as a bonus. I think that would be fabulous! Especially the arcade game and Turtles in Time.

Here is the best TMNT Game plan:
You have one prime objective, whether that is to save the kidnapped april, or stop baxter and shredder from releasing a deadly virus or whatever it is.
You should only face shredder once at the very end, and make him hard as hell to beat.
The game should be 4 players, so that all 4 turtles can fight along side of each other. I have no idea why they didnt do that this time...If you can make it 4 players, then why the hell wouldnt you?
It should combine, all of the versions of turtles, cartoons, movies, ect. There is enough bad guys to have a lot of interesting levels. Do it kind of like TMNT 4, that was for SNES, but not nearly as easy.
They should also throw in some creative extras, like "retro levels" from past TMNT games.
The people at Konami have the potential to make a really great game, its too bad, that they got lazy with this one. I hope that the next one will be better.

Exactly. They were too lazy. They knew they could get off with a half-assed job and it would still make loads of cash. The game gets choppy with just TWO turtles at times. I couldn't imagine it if there were four. They probably didn't want to take the time to optimize the engine in order to allow it to run in four player mode smoothly.

Getting a camera to work with 4 players isn't too hard. Ever play D&D Heroes? It's four player and the exact same camera as TMNT except that it can swing a full 360 around the characters. It works fine. In fact it works really good.

D&D Heroes has floor to floor levels. If Konami made fully 3D enviroments instead of the just one way type thing they could definatley do it. I just got these games and totally love them.....I couldn't really see a kingdom hearts tmnt game just yet but in time as the shows gains new villans and heros it would be a really awsome game......
I just love finding puzzles and clues to help you beat enemies.....I like a mind game any day over a straight out brawler or stupid shooting game....
if theres a good story involved I will love the game....if not it's a clunker in my honest opinion.....but the thing I really didn't like about the first new game is the ending...I'm sorry but the endings for the nintendo games were better lol....

I don't think that they should make a split screen. Just on 1 screen like in the old games, And please let there be a LAN/TCP/IP option in the next TMNT game. They need like a single player Grand Theft Auto-esque TMNT game. Pick the turtle, and go around the city, fighting various crimes, climbing up buildings, down ladders, even snagging the occasional car or van.

Same, I would really like to see something like GTA3 where you run around the streets and get set missions aswell, like drive the battle shell to the lair in a certain amount of time.
You could choose to be one turtle and the others set you missions, like Donny sends you to go to the garbage dump and find 20 whatevers in a certain amount of time, and things like you have to stay out of view because if anyone sees you, theyll call the police.
But one of the problems with the turtle games is that they dont make them to be epics, they make them to make sure theyre on the shelves before Christmas.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that idea. Most games should be influenced by GTA. When I was reading previews of the TMNT game for PS2 they were talking about how you wander around the streets of New York fighting gangs. To me, that sounded a lot like GTA. Then I play the game and you fight within a designated arena. If I don't feel like fighting 100 foot soldiers, I should be able to sneak off to another side of town, instead of being forced through a terrible game.
The next game should be completely influenced by GTA. Make a New York City. Allow the player to wander at his/her own will. Make foot soldiers sneakier. It would be more interesting if the foot operated in the shadows as the turtles do, so that sometimes you have to find them, instead of them always finding you. Make it so that the turtles can't be seen by citizens or police officers, unless in a disguise (You can leave special item boxes laying around in alleys with trenchcoats or something so the turtles can then walk around the city without people freaking out), if they do get caught, they can restart at a save point, or wake up in some kind of science lab that you must escape from every time you get caught (kind of like how when the guy from GTA gets arrested and starts from the police station). Allow the turtles also to steal cars (this probably won't work for the TMNT, but if they are allowed to "borrow" only parked cars, they might get away with that), and interact in certain buildings such as retail stores, gas stations, etc. Give the player missions that they must defeat in order to progress throughout the game. But allow those also to be done at the liesure of the player. Have the purple dragons only be on one side of town. Maybe each side of town can have it's own class of Foot soldiers. Of course, make an interactive turtle's lair, where you can hang out ( I even thought of a way to incorporate the old turtles games which I'll explain later), heal, save your game, and maybe get clues and/or information from your brothers about missions. You can even have a training session in the turtles lair that will enhance your characters strength and knowledge of martial arts. Make it so that there is a large area you must go through (from the lair, through the sewer, and through the subway) to get to the surface of the city. This way the player will be more likely to take risks thoughout the game, and make it more challenging instead of always going home to heal or whatever. Allow the player to choose whether or not they will use their weapons, or even be able to use different weapons. You can even have a save storage back at the lair to keep different weapons you've collected. Expand character selection to include Casey Jones, April O' Neal (Maybe by that time Usagi Yojimbo), Fugitoid. Include the Battle Shell, Shell Cycle, and Sewer Slider for the TMNT transport. Make them damageable so that the foot can attack and destroy them, then you can return to the lair later on and have donatello fix it and/or restore a new one.
the storyline will be different this time around, so i'm not anticipating another giant battle in Shredder's HQ's, but whatever it is, it should not just be a lot of fighting. There are times when the TMNT won't be powerful enough to stop something, there should be a twist so that in stead of running around in the open fields fighting countless enemies, you have to NOT BE SEEN to get through some places. Just like in the city with the citizens.
To incorporate the old games in this new one, they should have it so you can take your character to the turtle's lair, and hang out in the room with the screens and everything, and in order to activate one of the old games, you should push a button to interact with one of the screens. So it would be kind of like your character is playing video games. Even though it's you. Chew on that for a while. Add any ideas.

The problem with that is it will never happen. Konami knows they can get away with making sequals and sequals of the same old game engine and still make boat loads of cash. Why try so hard on something that will sell no matter how mediocre it is?

Indeeeeeeeed. Yeah it would be cool to have something new but they will just keep making sequels as Mike just stated. But an RPG would be interesting for TMNT. But I dont see so much you can do. Like you can hit people with chosen weapons. What are they going to do? Make them magical? 3D 4 player TMNT is the way to go! All the way. Yeah stupid Konami were lazy. Maybe in the sequel they make they can get rights or some how get the drawings and ideas for turtlenator and add him in like turtlebot. That would be cool.

Konami shouldn't make the next game GTA like. They should make arcade style, just like all the others. But maybe another company could make A GTA game, but not Konami!!! IMO

Hunter the Reckoning and Guantlet Dark Legacy have proven to me that four player is feasible. They just need to make it much more free roam and have a better camera (possibly one you can rotate as you please). Walls could be a problem but they could always make them "go away" when you are facing a certain angle and comeback when you aren't.

Make it 4 player, make Casey a playable character and give each character different strenghts and weaknesses. Add in some Easter Eggs like unlocking the original arcade game. More dialog. Keep challenge mode and Vs. I liked the new game, honestly. Maybe add in some vehicle combat or something. Brawl level after brawl level gets boring. I like a little variety. In Final Fantasy, you fight, solve puzzles and ride vehicles. That's why everybody loves them. other than that, I loved the game.

Hey, the PS2/Xbox/GC/PC game was NOT that horrible. There were things that could be fixed, sure, but it really brought back memories of the old-school games.
Anyway, here's my take on the TMNT game:
Make it "free-roaming" (the sub-genre GTA established), but still brawler-style. In other words, no guns, beating on innocents, et cetera.
Car-jacking could still be an option, but they'd have to only steal vehicles owned by Purple Dragons and the Foot Clan. If they stole a civilian's car, something bad would happen (maybe get chased by cops).
A small degree of stealth, but not much.
The option to put away your weapon and pick up others lying around, a-la Streets of Rage, except you'd still have the option to whip your weapon back out.
A FREAKING BLOCK BUTTON!!!
More special moves. Each Turtle could start out with a set number of moves, then learn more as the game goes on.
More realistic martial arts moves. The first one was okay, but Leo's style wasn't precise, Don's reach wasn't as good, and Raph only slashed with his sais... didn't reverse moves.
More types of Foot Soldiers, like in the old ones. You know, different weapons and attacks and such.
Bosses from both the Mirage comic, and from the new cartoon. I don't think they'll do the old cartoons or the Archie's comics.
Different one-liners. Like maybe a random one each time a combo is finished (or, so they don't get old, one in every five combos or something). Pressing the button and hearing them say something every time was about as annoying as hearing "Hadoken" 50,000 times.
Expanded multi-player modes, including a 4-player brawling mode (like a multi-player Tekken Force mode from Tekken 3), a 4-player Vs. Mode (ala Power Stone), and maybe some more original modes as well. Go nuts, Konami!
The multiplayer modes could be offline (must have multi-tap for PS2), or online (hey! Gamecube NEEDS another online game, people!)
You can always hit the garage on the corner of Eastman & Laird, and get one of the TMNT's own vehicles, but maybe only after completing a set number of missions.
Missions can range from beating down certain bad guys, to returning money to the authorities (like the first episode), to finding a way to destroy a Foot warehouse.
If there is animated cut-scenes, make them not look so low-production. I know 4Kids did the original scenes in the first game, but they looked rushed. If there are 3D cut-scenes, freaking animate them a little! Make their mouths move when they speak! Don't have them just stand like rigid puppets!
An original storyline, sort of based upon the new cartoon. You know, like the storylines in the old games, but a bit deeper.
Super moves that work similar to Dynasty Warriors' Musou attacks.
Will there me more? You bet your sweet ass!

Well, I still think that the new game should be plain arcade style. But instead of subtitles, they should put in some comic strips.. like they do in Max Payne or something like that

I agree with all of those thoughts on what the new game should have.
Can I add a couple more things...
For instance, would it be horrible if there was a tiny (yes, TINY) bit of blood when somebody (thug (enemies), Casey, or the Turtles) gets hit with a blade of some sort? Leo's katana would draw some blood as well as Raph's sais. But I'm not being morbid here. I think it would make it more realistic. Besides, some of the comics had it as far as I can remember.
And the Purple Dragon Members need to be different. Nobody looks the same in real life, so why should they?
What do you think? Let me know, K?

What I meant was to have Casey as a playable character alongside one of the Turtles. Yes, you can play as Casey, but Casey mode, and Splinter mode, are only one player.

casey mode should have been better: 2 player, weraing the mask, base ball projectiles, weapon rotation, and he should hold the hockey stick better.

I've been thinking of some new Turtles games myself. Two would be console games, one for the handheld.
The first of the two console games would be a sequel to the first game released last year. FIRST and FOREMOST, this game would have 4-player support, cause it didn't make much sense for the first one to have only two players. I would throw out the first engine and implement something along the lines of Devil May Cry and the recent Legend of Zelda games. You would be able to block, and targeting can enable new moves and combos as well. The useless double-jump would be removed as well and air attacks would be more practical. And if done right, the new engine would support up to 12-14 characters at a time, with minimal to no slowdown.
The second game would be the sequel to Tournament Fighters games, using the characters of the new show. I have a list of characters in the Tournament Fighters post. The story would be that the Turtles would get an "invitation" to an underground tournament. The tournament would be a cover up for the Shredder, so he can get his revenge.
After playing Sonic Battle on the GBA, I truly believe that they should have a melee game featuring the Turtles. No story would be necessary, just fun fighting and extras to preserve it's lastability.
Well that's it for my ideas, hope someone can put them to use so we can see them become reality.

I want in the next Game
1...More saying for each character doesnt the turtle commentary get annoying after a while
2 ..Casey Jones mode On PS2 Not just gamecube
3 ...Release classic ninja turtles Nes/Snes games on Gba or somthing since all the other classic games seem to be doing that
