View Full Version : Hey, so if Bob is a "violator", does that mean Venus is one too?

Right, so you know how they cursed Bob at the top of their lungs because he dared to... Return a little girl to her natural form and thus potentially create a better future for her? The little girl in question also doesn't have much of a reaction to it herself, so for all we know, she might not even care, it's just the characters around her who say it needs to be "fixed".

Right, now let's remember how a mere 15 issues prior, Venus decided to turn Barlow into something that basically looks like a non-mutant rat, not because she had to (they make it very clear she could just have killed him instead) but out of petty revenge. Then Barlow quite literally reacts in horror to what has happened and asked why they didn't just kill him instead.

So if we judge these actions on the same standard, didn't Venus "violate" Barlow as much Bob "violated" Lita, if not worse because Barlow explicitly hated being a mutant in the first place and literally reacted with "please kill me"? Or are just meant to think Venus is "the good guy" and therefore anything she does is justifiable, and that Bob and Barlow are the "bad guys" and therefore anything they do or want is inherently bad no matter what it is?

Also, I know this is kind of a petty jab at writing but in taking a look at the issue just to make sure I didn't get anything wrong, Barlow's name is obviously misspelled on the page where he is transformed and just about any editor in the world would have noticed it. It's almost if these scripts don't go through any redrafting or editorial approval...

No, it's okay because Venus is an allegorical trans characters, and trans characters are NEVER allowed to be wrong, because that would be hateful. Hateful and wrong. And a violation.

(This is sarcasm, which despite being obvious I feel the need to explicitly identify anyway )

Venus's situation was more of an eye for an eye situation. She was forced to be a turtle and learned to accept it, but Barlow didn't want to be a mutant and was forced to be even more of a mutant now. In a sense, it's more karmic justice for her in my opinion.
