I've just watched a whole episode at www.ninjaturtlesnetwork.com here's my review. I don't speek Japanese, so I couldn't understand what the characters were saying. However I noticed Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, April, Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, Foot solders, Splinter and a Japanese version of Shredder. Expect for Shredder all the characters look like the old toon designs. April still works for Channel 6, the technodrome was also there. However, I quickly began saying, "What the ****?" as the show continued, it seems the turtles, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady all use these rubies to transform into these armoured freeks, the turtles look more like autobots is you ask me. The turtles can also merge into one :-? WTF? And all that ninjitsu action has been dumped for power-ups, and the typical attacks you'll see in shows like Digimon or Dragon Ball Z, honestly is that all the Japanese can come up with? And what's with the fairies? Shredder later becomes 300 feet tall, and starts chasing the turtles through the city.
And you thought The Next Mutation was just plain wrong?
Now that you've heard all this, would you be supportive if an English-translated version was realised in your country?[/i]

Yeah it sucked, big deal. No, not all anime is like that (In fact, practically none of the ones I like are like that) But the fact is, it was never meant to be "canon" as TNM was. It was what you call an "OVA" And Japanese OVA's get released as a Sidestory set to an alternate reality all the time.
That's all it was, a Side Story set in an alternate reality.
And Matthew, no you really don't -_-
(Even though my Good buddy Azure my disagree  )

i didn't like the fact that turtles became "more human" you can see they lost most of the characteristics that make them turtles, above all their faces, if they had tails like in the comics, they would have been removed in the anime :dead: , btw does any body have a picture of the part where the turtles are making fun of bebop and rocksteady in the intro with a better quality?

It sucks that a lot of anime gets draaged down because of the children's Tv counterparts.
I mean, sure... a lot of kid's tv anime follows the the plot of certain shows, ie, we see a lot of Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Gundam, and (ick) Pokemon ripoffs... \
The adult (and more sophisticated)stuff is more fun. I mean, Akira is still the dman most disturbing thing I'll ever watch, I love Lupin III, and Spirited away is pure brilliance. And of course, the classics of Astroboy and Speed Racer are still great.

"...all use these rubies to transform into these armoured freeks, the turtles look more like autobots... "
Autobots...? They do not! *rolls over laughing*
Nah... try Beast Wars Maximals, or Gundam fighters. ;p
I will agree, I was perplexed the first time I saw this a few years back too. They produced it back with the old cartoon was airing too. But I agree that it seemed a lot like Digimon or somesuch thing like that. The voices also were a riot, cause they sound higher pitched and stuff.
But I'm not gonna bash anime as a whole, cause I have seen better done examples, than this generalized Power Ranger/Voltron style many lesser anime power shows take after.
Because... the FoxBox cartoon show is also done through DongWoo Studios, which is a Korean company. They did well in producing this show to be like nothing else we have seen.

I personally don't like anime. American cartoons always did the job for me. I don't know why people sweat that stuff so much. It's all over the place. The animation looks stupid a lot of the time. You can tell they are obviously smart people but their creativity sucks. They create very poor characters that you don't give a crap about, and make these crazy storylines.

For gods sakes, stop the damn anime bashing.

 Whats with bashing everything lately?
Look, some people might like it, some people might not. For the sake of those that DO like it, lay off the bashing, okay? we got enough negative morale in this place right now.

Why don't we just stop talking about the anime all together, it only lasted for 3 episodes and it was just like power rangers. Overall, most people thought it sucked and don't like watching it, end of discussion.... please?

I respectfully disagree...
it's everywhere because kid's like to watch the throwaway kiddy junk that litters the television. They are bad, they are all copy cats, sure. But it seems that shows like Digimon, Yougioh, and Pokemon has people jaded.
Try watching Akira... trust me.
Saying that all animes are like Pokemon,l is like saying all Japanese Cinema is like Godzilla.
believe me when I tell you this. 5 years ago, I would totally agree with you. I saw nothing but Pokemon and DBZ on television. But then when I got to college, I actually saw the stuff they would never show on saturday mornings.
I will always like classic American cartooning much better (Looney Tunes especially) but I see nothing wrong with Lupin III.... when I discovered that, it changed everything.
But you gotta admit... at least Krang was in the anime... unlike the final season of the original TMNT.....

I picked it up on DVD and watched it subtitled. I thought it was funny. Well, funny to laugh AT, not WITH. It was intentionally cheesy and stupid, though. You weren't supposed to take it seriously. I was pleased with the animation quality, much much better thanthe tv series and just about on par with the miniseries (except no bandana miscolorings).
I enjoyed it. Shredder from the 2nd OVA looked badass.
I couldn't stand Krang's voice, however. Not for a second.

And why did he call Shredder "Sawaki"?
Shredder's real name is "Saki", right?

The anime was a shameless ploy to sell toys over seas. It was only an OVA afterall. But then again every TMNT series has been a ploy to sell toys so meh... whatever. I loved the animation though. I've really gotta get the subbed DVD off of eBay.

I have to say, with the exception of that annoying robotic DBZ transformation crap they got going, it sounds pretty interresting.
And by the way, Saki's name is Sawaki in Japan... for some odd reason they have to translate Japanese names into japanese.... :khappy:
Ok... I voted before I read the first post. That sounds retarded and I hope they never bring that show to america because I think it would cause first time viewers who know nothing about TMNT to hate it and get the wrong impression. The Japanese have ruined the concept of TMNT and they obviously have a very sick imagination, or lack thereof. I mean c'mon, giant transforming robots and power crystals? The end of the world is truly upon us.

Wow, sure is a lot of ignorance towards the ways of anime in this thread. I'd go and try to repair some of the damage if it wouldn't take me 3 days.
The TMNT Anime is just a neat little oddity. Nothing more, nothing less. It is of no threat to anyone's way of life. Get a grip on yourselves.
By the way, Krang actually calls Shredder "Saki-chan", which is just too damn hilarious.

Think of it as a "Lost Season"
...In a Parralel Universe, where it's the same year, and it's the same series, but everything else is different.
And what if you can't find your way home?

Hm.... DBZ dosent have robotic transofrmations. Must be thinking of Macross or Robotech ;).
Saki in Japan is a REALLY potent kinda beer, so that could be why they changed his name Sawaki.

I have two clips of the anime version and I must say, it left me scratching my head. They had Shredder, Rocksteady, and Beebop running straight up the sides of the wall and some metallic tiger turning into what appears to be Shredder. Strange stuff.
Still, that didn't keep me from downloading some songs from the soundtrack of that series. :D

And Sredder never called him Krang, he just constantly referred to him as "Stupid Octopus".
Also, for the record, the anime continues the story form the TMNT manga. That's why they had a "Previously" segment at the beginning of the first OVA.
And also, there's only 2 OVA episodes. People get confused because there were three tapes. The first tape had the first episode, the second tape had the second episode and the third tape released contained both OVA episodes. That's all.

Those are indeed toys based on the anime. Or was the anime based on those toys? Whatever. Those were not the only ones either.
