View Full Version : Where do the Turtles go to the bathroom in the lair? Have we ever seen a toilet?

I'm trying to remember any scene in any of the TMNT cartoons, or even any of the comics, where we saw a functional toilet in the Turtle lair. I don't think we've ever seen one? I don't think Mirage ever had this and I can't remember any scene like this in the Fred Wolf cartoon, 2k3 or Nick shows.
Does anyone ever remember if we ever saw a toilet in an episode, even just a background shot? I assume Donatello installed functional toilets in the sewer where the waste goes through different drains than what they're walking in.
The Turtles definitely do not seem like the type to just crap where they walk. April would never go down there!

I... Am... Just going to assume they hooked a toilet up to an existing pipe?

They live in a drainage sewer, not a sewage sewer, so presumably they could just crap in the running streams of water that would just be carried out to the Hudson or whatever.

The whole lair IS a toilet.

Precita, my boy… this one should have went on r/TMNT.
But they use the Flushomatic, obviously.

That makes sense actually
As graphic as some of the ninja turtle comics are especially Last Ronin. I am surprised they haven’t touched on the ninja Turtles using the bathroom at all. Minor detail, but it would be funny.

This was just a gross question that could only get gross answers, wasn't it?

Well turtles just go randomly like rats, since they're in the sewers it doesn't matter to them. To them just poopin/pissin randomly is normal. They probably just do it while walking in the middle of a mission in NY as well, it's a nothing burger to them.
I'm more concerned about what April, Casey do when they're down there visiting for a long time and have to go. I mean as humans they were most likely raised with privacy and not just randomly going anywhere.

The only thing close to an answer I can think of is when April is living with the TMNT during the 2k3 cartoon, season 2. She comes out of a bathroom brushing her teeth, but I don't think we ever see a toilet.

There's no reason they couldn't fashion some kind of commode with the bottom cut out hovering above where the water streams into the river. Like, you sit on it and SPLOOSH, your excrement gets a fast lane to the Hudson, no one the wiser.
There could be a story in that. Like, the Turtles have been pooping in the same spot for years and the trace amounts of mutagen in their feces and urine have slowly been creating some kind of Golgotha thing. Like Mother Mutagen.

And sadly, it peaked all of our interest, lol

Oh... Well thank the Pantheon for that... I guess? It's still pretty nasty though...
Come to think of specific versions though, in season 4 of the 4Kids show they move into an old pump station and in IDW they used to live in a bomb shelter under a church, so there should be... Facilities... In both this instances.
The question about the 4Kids lair in the first three seasons, which is an Y'lyntian outpost... Do Y'lyntians even need to use the bathroom in the same way? If they do, then it should be equipped, otherwise it's a huge mystery.

Unless they want to use someone's skull as a chamber pot, I suppose.

I'm glad Dan Berger drew a toilet making it canon. It proves the Turtles have good hygiene and aren't savages like the Native Americans in pre-colonial America or the African tribes who live in the forest and walk in their own filth.

Better hygiene than me when I’m drunk. I just go in the backyard.

Man, we’ve had some funny tags over the years but whoever put “cuck chair” in a thread about toilets is cracking me up
The concept of using a crapper as a cuck chair is simultaneously so low-brow but somehow genius. And course, cybersai is in rare form. I love you guys lol

Actually in Vol. 3 #2, when Leo first brings them there he tells everyone that there’s indoor plumbing, running water and electricity.

Does he? That makes no sense. What architect would design mausoleums with any of that stuff? For whom? The dead bodies?

I can't believe this is the first time ever someone came up with this question on these forums.

Deleting my Reddit account was one of the best things I did.

I dunno. Maybe it was also some kind of outpost or extra living quarters for the church?

I guess so. Like a workspace/storage area for which they'd need electricity and plumbing for the guys working their shifts.

In a brilliant coincidence "cuck" is also homophonous with the German prefix "Kack-". Which literally means "crap".
