the Official site Added prototype pix of the Space Hoppin' TMNT (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/2004/spacetmnt/prototypes.html) and the Mini Fighting Gear TMNT. (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/2004/minis/prototypes.html)
hm...I love the mini Fighting Gear allot but I'm not so shure about the space hoppin tmnt....I actully liked the ones they had up at the comicon allot better because they looked like the ones from the show....but I guess these are ok Dan said the colors may change from what they are now so we shall see..but I do love the guns they come with. let's also hope that the visors may become translucent which I am sure they will or the toy won't look that great.it's also nice to see they kept the jointed fingers.
I've also noticed something allot if not all of the tmnt figures coming out remind allot of jim lawsons art....he's not my fave tmnt artist but it's just something I noticed...and found odd....his art has always been out of perportion to me..and it kinda shows in the toys.

That would be the Apollo 11 Ninja Turtles. While on the subject of new action figures, I spotted the Xtreme sports Leo, Don and Mikey at K-Mart yesterday, no Xtreme sports Raph though.

Ok. These have to be like the earlier earlier prototypes. Cause, they better not end up coming out looking like this. The other versions were series Accurate. Mikey's Triceraton suit even still having a tail. :x :dead:

I'm kinda confused. Are these what they are going to look like instead of the ones pictured before?

I think the old sculpts look more like the new ones.

I did notice that they were bulky, so are the new figure sculpts pictured here going to be inside the other figures?

Argh, and I was really liking the tentative lineup for the third series of mini figures. Darn.

Splinter
01-06-2004, 05:20 PM
Well, it does say Prototype. And they don't really look all that much like Turtle Bodies. So I'm hoping that these are just kit bashed mock-ups instead of what they changed to. Cause I wanted the more show accurate versions. This just looks.....stupid. :(

Yup, no interest in any of these.

Here's the Mikey one (Ignore the fact it says Raph), with the tail. See, now these would have rocked. Show accurate, and kick butt. These knock-off looking Space figures, make the X-Treme Sports turtles look like gold. :(

Roseangelo

While I do agree, and would rather have the concept (though I probably still wouldn't buy it), I can see why they changed it.

The concept isn't much more than a big bulk of a plastic with a huge plastic tail (which would be hard to package). There's absolutely no way to know it's a Ninja Turtle except by a face in the helmet. There's not much play value in that.

So they resculpted them to be more recognizable as Ninja Turtles. Makes sense for Playmates, but a bummer for us.

Splinter
01-06-2004, 06:42 PM
Actually, we don't know that yet. Dan Berger specifically calls what was posted "Prototypes" so they could easily have been pictures of the early kitbashed figures. As for the tail, only Mikey's figure would have had one. I still don't think the prototypes that were posted are what will come out. I've sent E-Mails to Dan to get him to investigate. :)

I doubt this is the finished product just like what we saw of other figures shown at toy shows they are very differnt from what dan shows us on the official site.

Actually, in my opinion they are total crap. Playmates promised that the furthest they would go with the turtles from what was seen in the series was the X-Treme Sports turtles. They had a perefectly fine series apperance variation of the turtles that they could produce. And what do they show us instead. Some cheesy non-TMNT looking Space figures.

It's not rude, he didn't sculpt them himself. He said their prototypes. That's why were trying to find out what the hell is up. Did Playmates just screw things up and decide to pump these out, instead of the planned 'Space Hoppin' turtles. Or are these merely early kitbashed figures (most likely) not representing the actual Space Hoppin' series accurate figures. :)

no my saying it was rude were to people who don't go to the links i posted and only look at the pics i posted....dan said good things in there and i am sure the toys will come out looking fine I have faith in playmates they have not let me down yet with the tmnt ever and i mean EVER.
but yea some people really are lazzy and won't go to pages and thats what i ment doll no harm done toodles

Playmates has let me down many times.. Their paints are often bland and the sculpting until now was never accurate. Not to mention the neon pink accessories. I'm hoping they don't go back to that.

Hmm, We have seen the turtles Skatin', Trashin', Bikin' & Scooting' but we haven't any of the turtles armorized in the show, I don't know if they're going to be Armored in any of the episodes. I think the armor turtles are the furthest playmates has made!!!

coryroo24

i'm thinking that maybe they will get amorized in the sequel to the garbageman. They will visit their friends at the dump and get their armor. Just a guess. didn't laird say that all the figures would be related to the show or the videogame?

I got my E-Mail back from Dan Berger. Here's what he has to say. :)
Howdy Mikey,

> I don't have Dan Berger's address. So I'm hoping this finds it's way
> to him.

I'm the only person who works on the site, so all mail reaches me. :)

> I'm E-Mailing him in regard to the so called 'Space Hopping' Turtles
> Prototypes. I was wondering if these are just early kitbashed versions

Nope, they're what we received from Playmates this week, so they're hot
off the presses.

> . Because they don't look anything like the 'Space' Turtles in the
> Triceraton Arc. Figure images of which, we've already seen. I'd rather
> we see actual series accurate figures. Especially since that is what
> was originally planned. Can you attempt to clear the air on these?

I'm afraid that I don't know what the deal is. The prototypes that I
posted pix of yesterday are the only ones that we've received.

I don't know where the pix of the cartoon styled Space figures came
from. I assume the photos are from Toy Fair, and if so, they're very
early prototypes and the ones from yesterday are more recent. For
reasons unknown to us, Playmates has apparently decided to change the
designs.

Mirage C.E.O. Gary Richardson is looking into the matter.

Thanks for writing!

Cheers!

Another E-Mail from Dan:
Yo Mikey,

> Thank you for your quick reply. If you could please keep me up to date
> on the info, I would appreciate it.

I'm afraid that I'm not going to be in the loop on this - Gary
Richardson is dealing with it and I doubt that I'll be informed what
decisions are made. Plus, the site gets far too much mail for me to be
able to keep track of one issue for one person, I'm sorry.

> I have to say, that if these are what comes out, I'd have to not
> purchase them. After Playmates promised us that the
> furthest they would go from the series accurate Turtles ever would be
> the X-Treme Sports Turtles.

The problem with toy companies is the employee turnover is dramatic.
Several of the folks who were working at Playmates when the new TMNT
was launched have since left the company, so the promises that they
made are gone with them.

> A theory did surface on the forums, that these could actually be the
> 'Junklantis' Turtles.

No, they were clearly labeled "Space Hoppin' Turtles" on the paperwork
that we received.

Thanks for writing!

Did anyone notice that the bandana "magically escapes" from the back of their helmets? That's stupid. When I seen the series accurate Mikey in Triceraton get-up, that impressed me. It doesn't have to be flashy. But toys are marketed for children, who apparently like poor color schemes and silly looking laser guns, according to Playmates. Sometimes I wonder what Toy Biz would have done if they made the TMNT figures. They thrive on accurate portrayals of cartoons, comics and movies. Although I dislike Marvel, Toy Biz does well for them. I know they're a bigger co. so you don't have to speculate, but still.

It also scares me that Playmates employees come and go. At any given time anything can happen now, and who knows (even with all these previews of the figures to come) what's going to happen with all these projected figures for this year. Sometimes I love Playmates, and sometimes I resent them. Especially for not having a Baxter Stockman figure in the works. Damn racists.

coryroo24
01-08-2004, 07:54 AM
I agree with you. There should have been at least 2 baxter figures out already. Just regular baxter, then baxter in that big robot. I don't think playmates are racist I just think they made a mistake not making baxter.

I agree completely! Heck, even the Extreem turtles had some refference to the show... except the bright colored spandex and helmets they made them wear (I forget the episode... but they were fighting the foot on the vehicles each toy came with) But these just look like space suit toys, not even TMNT! I really think they dropped the ball not making the show accurate ones, and hopefully these are mock ups, and they will make some sort of marage between the two... I won't get them anyway... the only TMNT varient of a character I'm interrested in is Turtle titan...

Anyway, the Minifigs.... they are the real prize! They actually look BETTER than the actual full sized Armor warriors to me...And I hope that the next set of Minfigs comes with a Casey Jones or Triceriton... I love the Minifigs...

HUN... That'd be awesome. COuld you imagine such a big mini fig. hehe

BTW. Don't like those prototypes either, and they made Jarrah talk about Apollo 11 again, If he got those figs. then he would be on his way to outer space hehe. [Sorry if you find this offending Jarrah]
