Does anyone have any idea what these episodes might be regarding Season 1 of the old cartoon being released on DVD? I know there are some theories about this floating around.

Well, they're probably not season 1 episodes. That's for sure. There are some known scripts that couldn't be confirmed being made and never aired or not. If these four are of those, it could be very very intresting. :)

In an interview with Eastman I belive he said there were some "unseen episodes" that he wished to release someday. I just hope they are good and not a big let down. (I will also try to post the interview if it is worth it.)

Most of the old cartoon was unseen to me because I missed a lot of it, being young and all. I'm happy that they will be on DVD.
I think I remember reading in an interview about some unseen episodes, they made the episode but it never got to TV I think.

Hmm, unaired episodes huh? Maybe they never aired because they were too violent. Wonder what happened their plotlines were.

The only unaired episode I know of that actually had a script written was "Shredder In Love".
Still, it'll be a real treat to finally see these "lost episodes". Of course, with all things, this never happens until years after it originally premieres.

They would have just edited it. And if it's not from the first season, I doubt it would be violent at all, seeing as the 'toon got toned way down.

I have heard of this "episode." Isn't it one where he falls head over heels for April? That makes sense seeing as how I always felt he had a crush on her in the first place. He only kidnapped her three dozen times. :P

I find that humorous since I would love it if the lost episodes were from those seasons. They were my favorites!

If these "unaired episodes" are truly original, it's unlikely that they're some sort of "hidden gems" that we haven't seen yet. If anything, they're probably really crappy or boring episodes that they tossed aside in the 80's for some other episodes, possibly because they were over the limit of how many episodes could be aired in that season. So I don't expect them to be glorious but should still be fun to watch, at least the first time around, simply because we haven't seen them yet.

Yeah, you know, when USA first acquired the TMNT show, I was excited to learn they were going to air 13 previously unaired episodes. After watching them, they were some of my least favorite episodes of the entire series.
It would be cool though, if these unaired episodes tied up some holes from episodes like "night of the rogues".. maybe an episode that introduces Scumbug or something. Or maybe it will tell how Tempestra escaped from the video game again and all of a sudden wants money, which made absolutely no sense to me.

Night of the Rouges just made no sense at all anyway. They were just desperate for an episode idea I guess. Anyway, I think it would be better in "Shredder in Love" if they was a female ninja just like him that he encounters. That would be great.

I also had this to say. I'm really excited about these lost episodes. I'm really hoping that it would have episodes with Ace Duck or Man Ray. Those two really deserved an episode and origin story. It would be also awesome to have more mutant stories i'm also hoping maybe it would include my favourites the Frogs and Mondo Gecko.

Well, we did have a couple threads a while ago, that pointed to evidence of five missing episodes. So maybe they were made after all. Here's the links and some relevent info. :)
About the missing eps, I did an extensive search at copyright.gov and loc.gov, and made an ep list with all the most official production numbers and publishing (air) dates I could find. Still, these five, 9059-048, 9059-049, 9059-050, 9059-064, and 9059-065 seem to have been skipped over. I've never found anything suggesting that these are unused scripts, so if grunger_kittie wouldn't mind letting me know where this info was seen, I'd be very appreciative. It would make a perfect addition to my list.
Here's (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&th=c899e0bbe500bced&seekm=3 5Ala.246%24y16.156%40newssvr16.news.prodigy.com&fr ame=off) the newsgroup thread that mentions the 5 missing eps. Also, I found this info from the copyright database at loc.gov:

I certainly would hope one of those episodes would highlight Krang's past. For instance, how did he and Shreeka get to know each other? To me, Dimension X and Krang are really the final frontier of original TMNT, since we know next to nothing about them. But I suppose there is a fat chance of that happening..... ever.

Another thing I wonder about is the quality of these lost episodes. Since they were never aired, does that mean they will be of lesser screen quality, even when given the DVD enhancement treatment?
All too often, I have seen things on DVDs that were "lost" added as bonus features, and it's of terrible quality.

I'm with you, buddy.
Season one was really the only great season... Better animation (though less consistent, it just looked cooler), far better writing, and generally edgier and more interesting as a series. Things nosedived into goofy comedic adventures pretty quickly afterwards.
Not that those stories didn't have their appeal, but I certainly don't prefer them.

Personally, I think the 1988 and 1989 seasons were good too, although with "Plan 6 (?) from Outer Space" it jumped the shark.
A few good eps aired in 1990 and 1991 on CBS though. ;)

Bry_Katz: Seasons 2 and 3 weren't THAT goofy..."humourous", yes, but at least it still had a little action, and the dialogue was more than what it was after season 3.
If you ask me, the kind of "goofiness" you're referring to didn't truly come until season 4 when the dialogue started going downhill and the action being nearly obliterated.

There's that phrase again. Jumped the Shark. Gosh, how I hate when people refer to that. Not that I'm attacking you, Usotsuki. I just don't think the old cartoon ever jumped the shark.
Not that early, anyway.
If there ever was a "jump the shark" moment for me, it's when the main villain was replaced, and anything resembling the first eight seasons of the old cartoon were completely forgotten.
It's one thing to revamp a show to pump some new life into it. It's another thing to completely trash it, turn it into something its not, and all for the sake of ratings.
But I digress.
Back to the main topic of discussion. I would love to know if there were episodes between Season 3's "The Big Blow Out" and Season 4's "Plan 6 from Outer Space." It never made sense to me -- honestly, it still doesn't -- how the Technodrome crashed upside down into some Mega-Technodrome thing at the end of Season 3, only to appear on an asteroid rightside up again at the beginning of Season 4. You're not telling me the writers just completely ignored this fact?
I would love an answer to this, but I'll probably never get one.

Most likely, they did just ignore that. They probably thought kids wouldn't care anyway, and they certainly were right, most of their audience didn't. However, if you're looking for a logical answer to this, most likely what did happen is that the Technodrome was dislodged by the rock soldiers and sent afloat, after that it just landed on an asteroid. I don't know, that's the best I could come up with.

Plan 6 from Outer Space was great except they kept showing it like once a week after it first aired... it's like.. every time they ran out of an ep to show.. they'd show that one.

As for eps... I'll be damned, but it would be nice to be able to download them... I used to have several tapes of episodes. Most of them I got off the air... The tapes wore out or broke -_-; so I don't have them anymore... Heh. I've dug Turtles for 15 years-ish... :P

Personally, I think it's incredible that the old cartoon was featured on three separate networks in its prime. First there was FOX; then CBS; and, finally, USA.
Rumors of the old cartoon appearing on the Cartoon Network never panned out. And I also remember, though faintly, about it possibly being on Nickelodeon. But I dismissed this rumor long ago since that network usually only runs the programs it creates.
Keep in mind, the Nickelodeon rumor surfaced over 10 years ago, so next to nobody even remembers it. Except me, your resident Ninja Turtles Cartoon Fan!

I'm suprised that the makers of TMNT weren't sued by Atari and/or Namco for using sound effects from Pac-man in "Plan 6 From outer space".
Actually, I'm pretty sure the producers had to pay some kind of fee to include any sounds in their episodes that weren't their own.
For example, take the episodes "Night of the Dark Turtle" from Season 7 and "The New Mutation" from Season 9. If you listen carefully, you can definitely tell they used dinosaur sounds from the "Jurassic Park" movies. Since I've seen those movies so many times, I can definitely hear the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor in the episodes mentioned. If the Ninja Turtles had taken those sound bytes without Universal Pictures' permission, there could have been a lawsuit. But, as with most shows, they just pay a fee to use those sounds and everyone's happy.
I never noticed there were sounds from Pac-Man in "Plan 6 from Outer Space." I never played that game much. But if there are, I'm sure the show paid some sort of fee to include them in the program.
