Do you mean those three, or Mirage in general? I've never read those three, but Mirage itself are the best Turlte comics you can find.

If I'm right, the only volume 1 issues that should count are the ones with Shredder, Baxter, Renet, Fugitiod, Casey, Leatherhead, the Triceratons and the City at War. I think everything else (not drawn by Laird and Eastman) don't count as canon. Who the hell gave those guys the rights to draw TMNT anyway?

Those issues are the worst there are. Well they aren't part of the canon anyway so it doesn't mater.

canon is the story continiuty right? Is issue 6 of the tmnt tales the only one that counts as a canon?

No, all of the Tales count. We've done some threads on this before. The official continuity list will be released by Mirage eventually. But, we pretty much know what it consists of.

Those three issues should've been published as a TMNT Adventures Special or something...not as Mirage TMNT!
I know the later stories by these guys were published by Archie. Oh well..

but unlike when they invented the turlest "they were having fun" but this time with....cocain....afterwards i guess they realized that it was a huge mistake, and if drugs makes them allow publishing crap such as those issues, drugs are pure evil....
(all of the above is a joke btw)
I have those three issues, and I think they're hilarious. Very, very strange humor and a twisted non-canon look at the TMNT universe.
Unless you're into weird, twisted, sometimes risqué humor, you might wanna skip those.

I don't think it would've been allowed, because it had alot of sexual inuendo in it, like a co-ed volleyball tournament in a nudist colony and the guys dreaming about a female mutant lizard type creature (possibly based off of Mona Lisa) stripping.

Nudity? What do you mean nudity? Mild or full frontal?

It was like that scene in Austin Powers where he's naked but his crotch is always covered by something. Plus the girls in the panels were always behind the bushes or trees, or they had their backs to the shot.
and the guys dreaming about a female mutant lizard type creature (possibly based off of Mona Lisa) stripping.
Dude, yeah! Best part was when Splinter took her away.
As I said, this is a twisted and somewhat "wrong" interpretation of the characters. It's a spoof. but there's this really funny part where the artist has Peter and Kevin getting into a fight because they allowed this nutball to do this comic.

those books were clearly spoofs, and very much a part of the spirit of the Vol.1 series...
lest i remind you all, that after 15, and before 60, the only issues that Eastman and Laird had anything to do with... were the "Return to New York" books... everything in-between was a reconceptualization of the TMNT, be it a Ren&Stimpy lookalike, facing up against the H.P.Lovecraft eldergod Dagon, or a more spiritually relevant/focused storyline...
Rich Hedden & Tom McWeeney (the guys responsible for those issues), were psychos... but pretty creative. Mirage has a long history of making fun of itself and the TMNT (Grey-green sponge-suit sushi turtles: the parody)... so those books are totally appropriate and fit in well.
(oh and no, Archie comics would never touch anything these guys did... they're way too "mature" by Archie's standards, which has already been pointed out... the later book, was "The Maltese Turtle" special in '93)
Vol. 1 was a great series... but you have to take it with a grain of salt, and recognize the fact that the very nature of an Indy comic, allows for constantly changing visions of the characters... the TMNT are iconic in the sense that they have more variations than nearly any other high-selling book (and they jumpstarted the Indy B&W craze in the late 80s)... if you can accept something so grossly out of tune with the Eastman/Laird concept like the (old) cartoon... then this shouldn't be difficult at all.

That's right, I forgot they had nudity 'n stuff in those comics..It's probably been ten years since i've read them. I know these guys DID do a TMNT Adventures Special for Archie though...not sure which number...

Ah. Well, they're issues 38-40 of Mirage Volume 1. A three-parter done by guest artists.
