Am I the only one who thought this was a jaw dropping episode. Now I know it was from the later years, but seeing all those baddies together, back when I first saw it as a kid I was in shock and like "oh crap, this is the end". Not only do we see the return of kickass Chrome Dome, but the introduction of Scumbug (were we supposed to remember him?) and Antthrax (which I thought was a great character, just shouldn't have had that freakin accent).

Another point of interest in this episode is the good guys having to team up as well. What I didn't understand is why they left out so many good people and instead brought the 5th turtle. Where were the Punk Frogs, Mondo Gecko, and Yusagi Yojumbo. Along with Splinter and Casey Jones, that would have made a great team with a huge battle!! (man, I am 20 and even thinking about that now gets me excited) :-)

Anyway, your thoughts. Am I right about this episode being something really special?

No, the episode assumed we already knew who Scumbug and Anthrax were. That's where they slipped up nastily. There was even a scene where April said something like 'guys, 'so and so' and Anthrax 'whatever they were doing'. How'd she know him? And how did Shredder contact all of them. He like.. got real psyched up like 'I know, let's gather all the tmnt villians!' and started pulling them all out of his ass, like opening a portal for scumbug and anthrax and saying that crhime dome was almost done being rebuilt and just ... man.. if he had such good connections he shoulda called em all up years ago.


I love the ep, it's just that something this big shoulda been an hour long. It was so rushed. Chrome Dome didn't even do anything. They knocked his ass out and programmed him to tell him Shredder's plans.

totally agree with you I remeber when the episode first showed on cbs I was shocked with the joped jaw and everything like you even still I love the episode....I think its a great episode but I really do love villans and I love when they all team up together I happen to think this was one of the best villan team ups on a cartoon ever. I was shocked to see chrome dome back...loved seeing Rat King and Slash come back again.....Tempestra was all cool in the fact that she hated leonardo more then the rest I also always wanted a toy of her but one was never made stupid playmates.....antrax was great so excited to see him in the show.....Scumbug and wyrm had short animated peices in an old cartoon comercial which i may believe to be missing episodes...but I could be wrong. Only time will tell now.
I think you are right also about bringing back other great guys like mondo for the episode but whatcha gonna do....I dislike zak allot he just reminds me of mighty max....lol was glad to see casey and splinter get into the action a bit though....I really wish we would have seen a continuation from this episode though later on because all those villans ran off and were never seen again...I think one of my all time fave things though is vernon being Leatherheads pet lol

thats not the episode fault thats the writers fault or wolf films for not airing the episode with scum bug and they told us who antrax was in the beggining of the episode....don't remeber the thing about april I'll have to watch the episode again...perhaps they all have camunication decives and he used the portal to get to allot of them it even showed that...once again it's a kid show and it's bein taken way to seriously but it's all good to each there own....and I totally agree with you this episode should have been longer atleast an hour special.

I liked that episode! But, and I recognised Scumbug from the Archie-comics so I wasn't bothered by his presence. :)

I really wish I would have seen this episode. It's one of the few that I have constantly missed over the years. :(

It was a good episode, and had a lot of potential. Problem is, they crammed so many characters into a 20 minute plotline. That really made things too fast and not nearly as good as it could have been. If it was a 2 part episode, would have worked out much better. Seeing as it is at the end of season 7 anyway, I think the grand finale of that episode should have been the raising of the Technodrome. I mean, if they really had to destroy Chrome Dome, then at least he could do something useful before that. I don't know why though...he was a good character that we didn't see enough of. But yeah, if you tacked on Shredder Triumphant, you'd make this a 3 parter and a good way to end the season.

Was James Avery still the voice behind Shredder, or had he been replaced by this time? I know Mr. Avery did the previous episode, "White Belt, Black Heart." But by the time "Escape from the Planet of the Turtleoids" came around, Shredder's voice was definitely different.

It was the different voice. That actually brings up another question, what happened thta Shredder's voice changed. I always wondered that.

I've heard a couple of rumors, but who knows if they are true? One said it hurt his voice to do Shredder; if it hurt Mr. Avery's voice, why did he do Shredder for so many years then?

Another rumor I heard is that he just got tired of doing Shredder and opted out of his commitment; again, who knows of this is true?

When did that show debut? I thought it came on in the late 1980s. I wouldn't know; I never watched it.

It was a pretty good episode with all the villians. Tho compared to other other toons where the emenies appeared all at one time, I don't think the TMNT verison was as dramatic or the acting was as good. Of course I know the orig. TMNT toon wasn't like that, but still. They rarely made 2-parters. And again, unlike other toons, they never had a recap of the last ep. That bothered me too. I love how the new TMNT toon does that, heck they have a prolouge for every ep. The orig toon is still a good, fun show, but sometimes I wish it would have been more dramatic at times.

Yeah I think James Avery left cuz at the time, as you guys were saying, he started doing Fresh Prince. It started in 1990, gosh didn't know it had been around that long! Kinda funny, for the longest time I didn't know, nor could I tell that James Avery was a black man when I heard him as Shredder. It wasn't until I heard his voice on Fresh Prince, and recognized it, and put two and two together, lol!

I don't think it hurt his voice to do Shredder... because his Shredder voice was pretty much just his regular voice...(you can tell by watching him on Fresh Prince)... and the Fresh Prince started way before he stopped being Shredder... he probably just got tired of doing it and wanted to move to new things.. probably the same reason Rob Paulsen left in the last couple seasons.

Yeah, from the way people describe this episode (as I have never seen it myself) it seems like something that could easily have been a two- or three-parter.

That's a lot of bad guys to squash into 21 minutes.
